Ronald,

I am the Great Granddaughter of Henry Venner, Jacob's son and brother to your Catherine. I have a scan of a picture of Jacob and Anna (as I am told she was called once she immigrated to the states.). I don't have any info on her burial site.

Email me offline and I'll be happy to shoot off a file of the scan. I would be interest in seeing your unidentified pictures as well.

Vonnie Galusha
vgaloosh@sbcglobal.net
I am the great-grandson of Catherine Venner, the youngest daughter of Jacob and Petronella Venner. My Great-grandmother married Herman Timpe and they moved to South Dakota in 1901 and to North Dakota in 1908. Catherine died in 1939 so I did not know her but I did know Herman who died in 1949. They had 8 children, my grandfather being the eldest. I have pictures of Jacob and Mary (Second wife)and some unidentified pictures. I would like to see a picture of Petronella.

I have been to Jacob's burial place but have not been able to locate Petronella's grave. I believe she was buried at Sinsinaw Mound but the markers in that cemetery have been removed.

Kathy Shee, As you know there are lots of inconsistencies in the books in question regarding cousin Irma. I know that Shee and Lepine are related to the Venner family but would like to know how? Can you help clarify the connection? Also do you know when Cloutier replaced F. Bourget in running Cimitiere St Charles now a Lepine-Cloutier venture? m.l.w@hotmail.com Marie-Lise

I've found that I'm descended from Elizabeth Venner, who married John Potter (who was later the Archbishop of Canterbury); she died before 1747.

Her father was Colonel Samuel Venner born 1650. Samuel was one of two sons of Thomas Venner, born 1608, who belonged to a radical, revolutionary sect called the 5th Monarchists; Thomas led the "Venner Rising" in 1661 and was hanged, drawn and quartered for doing so. His wife was called Alice.

What I don't have are the full names of Thomas's wife or any name at all for Samuel's wife, and any other BMD dates. Can anyone help?

I have been recently tracking back my maternal grandmother's ancestry, which I didn't not know much about, and have traced it back to Jacob Henrick Venner. His, I believe oldest child, was Helena Venner-- She married John Janssen (lived near Madison SD) and they had a daughter named Nellie E. Janssen, who is my maternal grandmother. Nellie had a large family (10) and had 50 plus grandchildren. Many still reside around Sioux Falls SD and into northwest Iowa.

Hello, I have only just joined ancestory after just losing my father. I have decided to try and trace his side of the family and I am starting with very little to go on. However, he comes from a big family of Venner in Cornwall. His name is William Venner born 1927. His father was Fernley Redvers Venner, born 1904 in St Germains who married Annie Brown and they moved to Guernsey. I can trace a little way back and it seems we decend from the Venners in America.I am wondering if we could have any shared relatives? Regards Roz

Harold and Elizabeth venners

I am currently working on finding the path that my great great grandfather took from england to the usa He came to maryland somewhere between I would say 1860 to 1870 71 Can anyone tell me if there any way to track him to england and to the town where he may have started in. I read in another e mail message naming a starting point of hastings by the sea. Harold and Elizabeth had three children when they lived in maryland Thomas H the oldest born 1872 , Minnie born 1875, Sidney born 1877. Thomas H was my great grandfather. he would later move to NY and marry Emma S and they had Vernon sr who was my grandfather. Vernon would have four girls and a son the girls and the son were all given up for adoption The sons name was Vernon Jr the girls I do not know all the names. one was Dorothy she as my mother then Blanche she married into the Gill family on Long Island NY she would later die of ovarian cancer and then there was aaaalice and all I know of her was her name. in 1983 my brother recieved a phone call from a woman who identified herself as a venners a long lost sister but my brother was rude a bit and hung up on her but not before he heard her say she was from texas. I would like to find out more about her also if possible. My mother died that april in 1983 and my brother was still grievine when she called and he was not what he should have been lets say. Can anyonew help me with my search into england. I can be reached at thetribe@catskill.net my name is Thomas Fullam

Venner/France/NY/AL

I am trying to verify the marriage of a Frenchman named VENNER to Mary Elizabeth BICKERSTAFF in NY around 1830's. This VENNER had a sister whose married name is believed to be WHITLEY who also lived in NY and had one son who was a doctor. Capt. VENNER was lost at sea around the time of the birth of their 4th child, 1838 or so, and she married Robert CONVILLE and moved to AL with her children from the VENNER marriage. I am searching for anything to verify the marriage of VENNER to BICKERSTAFF. Any help would be most appreciated!

Hi Jerry
From what I understand, some of the Venners in New Jersey had gone to New Zealand before ending up in the USA ... with at least one daughter born in New Zealand.

Is this the same family as you are researching?
I am descended from the NZ Venners ...

John and Charlotte Venner who travelled from Kent England to New Zealand in 1874 ... but obviously there were others too ... and because of the size of the country I am sure they are all tied in ...

Here's a record for your people ...

Husband: John William VENNER
Age: 21
Occupation Bushman

Wife: Emma WHITELEY
Age: 19
Occupation: Domestic Servant

Married: 11 February 1860
At: St Andrews Church, Christchurch
Witnesses: John & Jane Smith

Record # SAP3-69

(Transcribed from records held by Christchurch Library)

Cheers
Peter Burke

Thomas Venner

I have a whole page of Venner's in a family Bible and the oddest thing is I can't for the life of me figure out where they fit into my family. They were important in some way because I have one Great Uncle named after them and my father's given name was Venner.

These particular Venner's came to the United States somewhere between 1970 and 1880 I should think. They are listed in the Census for Vinalhaven, Maine, Knox County in 1880. His occupation is Granite cutter. They have two children born in Maine but all the rest of them are born in England. By the 1900 census they have moved to St. George, Maine which I think is also in Knox County. The only way I think they might hook up with my family is through my Great Grandfather's mother. She was a Durgin. Anyone?????

My grandmother b.1896 was Mary Elizabeth Venners. She lived in Brooklyn, NY. Once, when I was a young girl, her cousin, a Vernon Venners, visited. I only remember one visit. My mother later told me that Vernon had been divorced. I don't know what happened to him or if he is a Vernon you were looking for.

It's nice to see interest from Holland!

I never met John or Mary Jacobs. I am way too young to have been alive when they were, but I have been to their gravesites many times. Jacob and Mary had a daughter named Anna, who is my great-grandmother. I never had a chance to meet her either. She passed away in 1968.

If you are looking for Jacobs family information, Gene Jacobs (who has posted on this website before) is a grandson of John and Mary. He has quite a lot of family history and is still in contact with many of the grandchildren (and great-grandchildren) of John and Mary.

I do have some photographs, but they are at my parents house. I will get ahold of them soon and send them your way. It would be great to see any pictures you might have!!!

Nice to meet you!
Emily Wolfe

Hello Emily,

So nice to see that someone picked up this. Due to bussy work and sad things in the family, I lost contact to this board.
I am from Holland and are very interested in your Jacobs ancestors. I live in Sevenum, which is next to Horst, the birthplace of John JACOBS. I am trying to trace all the people from my area which emigrated to your country. Surprisingly a lot of them came to Amerika.

John (Jan Jacob) JACOBS was a son of Pieter Jacob JACOBS and Joanna THUNISSEN. In 1871, he was only 19 years, he went to Amerika. He was going to an aunt and uncle of his motherside. They had no children and took care of him. He worked in their bakery.

I would be very pleased to hear your family stories and see the pictures that are left. In return I can provide you with the history here.

Like I said, my grandmother used to be very sharp with this information but old age has faded her memory. But she and my grandfather have visited the Netherlands and have met up with I believe what is her 1st (maybe 2nd) cousin, and they visited the USA too. (In the 1980's) I look forward to hearing more! Talk to you soon!!!

Emily Wolfe

Hello!

I'm new to this site and kind of confused how the posting works! I've already posted a message to Gene Jacobs, but saw your posting as well....so I'll reply!

My great-great grandparents are John and Mary (Venner) Jacobs. They are actually buried about 20 miles from my house. My grandmother used to be very sharp with family history information, but she is getting older and memories tend to fade. I know in the late 1980's (?) she and my grandfather made a trip to the Netherlands and visited with Matt Pennings, a relative (cousin?) and he also visited the United States.

I see that you have scanned pictures of the tombstone of Mary's father, Jacob Venner. Those would be great to see and great to add to my family history!!!!

Hope to hear from you soon, Emily Wolfe

This thread is outdated, so hopefully it still works! I have been interested in my family history as my grandparents are getting old (grandfather just passed away) and know a little bit about the Jacobs family. My great grandmother is Anna Jacobs (Spielman) and great-great grandparents are John and Mary Helen Jacobs (Venner). John and Mary are actually buried about 20 miles from my house! My family still keeps in contact with Celia and her family (in Alaska) and are sad to hear of her death just a few months ago. My grandmother is Agnes Wolfe (Spielman) and used to be able to provide Jacobs information, but as she gets older some of the details are lost. Can anyone help!?! Thanks so much!!!!

Hello,

I am a Dutch researcher and interested in Jacob Jacobs who married Mary Venner in Sinsinawa.
I have his ancestors and I have access to her ancestors. Some years ago I found an article in a Dutch Genealogy magazine about the Venners from Limburg, Netherlands.

Would you like to exchange data?
Regards,
Birgitte
