Hi. I will have to look back at the posts. So sorry late response- very busy. I am not sure how to find anyone in Balboa- I believe my parents were married there if that is in the Canal Zone but my mom's family was from Los Santos, Paritilla. My dad was an American Soldier stationed there for a short while.

Unfortunately, I don't have any information to share. We don't know much at all about my mother-in-law's mother or her family in Panama.

We would have to take a trip over there to find out more information. That's not in the cards for us right now.

Hi My brothers wife emailed you about our grandmother in March 2011 she was from Balboa...Iam trying to find out her fathers name my mom is not sure because he died when my grandmother was young. So it would be great to help each other out.

What city or village was your husband's grandmother? My mom's family lives in Paritilla, Los Santos. She has sisters and brothers there but also scattered all over Panama. One family is wealthy (hang out with only the higher class well-known's of Panama) but most poor.

Hi! Maybe your Vergara is related to my M. Vergara. I am not sure how to spell it but they called him by Millo. His wife was Sarafina (Fina is what they called her). They lived in Paritilla near Los Santos. I found someone on Facebook who knew them and her family grew up there, too. I hope we have a connection. My brother's father was a Vergara, too, but he lives in the more city area, I believe. Vergara is from Spain, my brother was told.

I was born in the U.S. but my father was a Medic in the U.S. Army and he met my mom in the Canal Zone at a YWCA in 1962. The rest is history.

My grandfather's name is Nieve Vergara and he is also from Panama. Do you know what part of Panama your grandfather is from? I think the Vergara's came to Panama from Spain originally. I'll check with my Mother to find out if Miyuel is a relative of ours.

My great grandmother Maria Jesus Rivera, was born abt.1863
in Mexico. She died in Los Angeles,Ca. 1932. In 1878 Mexico
she married Octaviano Lopez, a captain in the military.
They had a big family, and moved all over Mexico because
of the Military. In looking at her marriage document to
Octaviano Lopez, I see her father is Eugenio Rivera, and
her mother is Francisca Vergara. I can not find any info.
on her mother, i've come to a brick wall. I think they
were not married when she was born. If any of these
names look familiar please contact me. Or if you have
any suggestions. Thank You

I am researching the Vergara's from Panama. My grandfather's name was Miyuel Vergara. Not sure of the spelling of his first name. Not even sure of a birth date.

So I thought the Vergara last name was pretty rare and uncommon but I guess not...I didn't even have any idea that it may have originated from Basque Spain. I live in Orange County in Southern California but was actually born in Morelos, Mexico. I remember one time when I was very little my dad had taken us to Taxco, Guerrero and then his relatives took us to this very old and abandoned chapel down by a river and all around the chapel were graves with nothing but the Vergara last name on most of them, I thought that was really cool. Does anyone know have any information about that? Who knows we may even be related??? lol BTW my dad was also born in Morelos, Mexico and his dad was Lazaro Vergara from Veracruz Mexico so it makes sense that we may even have relatives from puerto rico??? WOW how weird is that

This is a strange case, where someone replies his/her own email. Well, I found that the last name Vergaray comes from the Vasque IBERGARAI, and has nothing to do with Vergara, even though both families come from the same area.

Hi Traci. My name is Stephen Ibanez. My grandfather, Lazaro Vergara Ibanez, came from the Philippines (I think from Pampanga). He was born about 1903 and his father was Spanish (Ibanez) and his mother was Filipina (Vergara). That's everything I know about them.

My grandfather came to the US on the ship President Jackson in the early 1920's, landing in Seattle. There was a Melquiades Ibanez on the same ship, but I'm not sure they were related. The ship's passenger list didn't have middle names.

Do you know anything about that part of the family? I don't know how common the name is there...

I have just made the connection between my family and the Vergara name in California US. I'm looking for any information on Frederick and Josephine (Josie Gomes) Vergara in California around the 1900 - 1940 timeframe. I've found them in the federal censuses, and I can trace my husband's family back through to Delphina, so I was curious to know a bit more about the family, or if there are any folks doing genealogy out there, to compare notes with!

Hi Traci & Lyla, I am trying to find Vergara's in the Philippines. My Great-Grandmother is Teofila Vergara who married Pablo E. Ayson they are both from San Esteban, Ilocos Sur. I found the Vergara tree and I am not sure how they would fit in. All I know is that she lost her inheritance and was disowned when she married my Great-Grandfather. My father's 3rd cousin is Josefa Abad who married Epifanio Ayson Vergara. Also, my Great-Grandfather on my mother side is Andres Mina who was the first husband of Lucrecia Vergara Gomez. Hello: My name is Rubén Vergaray and I am from Lima, Perú.
(You may find many Vergara's in South America, but Vergaray's mostly in Perú and Chile). The only thing I hypothesized it may happend with my last name, is that during mid 1700's and early 1800's the change occured and it came to be as a desintegration of a combined last name. For example, the first Vergara's in Perú were the Vergara y Velasco, Vergara y Pérez,Vergara y León...and a couple more of Vergara's and something else. The change may came to be during the Independence period, where nobility was abolished. So they may appeared as Vergaray Velasco, Vergaray Pérez, etc.
Now, I do not know this for sure. Is any Vergaras or Vergarays out there that really know what happend?

Mi abuela se llama Maria Chavez Vergara, hija de Monica Vergara Arias, nieta de Dionisio Vergara. Mi abuela es de Concepcion de Buenos Aires (1907), mi bis-abuela nacio c. 1890. Creo que tambien en Concepcion/"Pueblo Nuevo". Concepcion esta cerca de Ciudad Guzman. Los apellidos que predominan por mi linea materna son: Chavez, Arias, Vergara, Contreras, Villalvaso, Sanchez, Lopez, Cano, Santillan, Sotomayor, etc. Todos en la misma region. Me gustaria compartir informacion contigo. Llevo la mayoria de estas lineas a principios del siglo 19.
