The name Hedley Vicars is familiar to me. I think i have seen it listed somewhere in my search. I don't know who it is but i know i've seen the name, possibly listed on an obituary. I don't have a lot of vicars on my tree yet.
Thanks for the question.
Dee Dee (vicars) Zivi

My aunt insisted we were related to Hedley Shafto Johnston Vicars who was killed in the Crimea. I have traced Graves and Hughes ancestors in Ireland, and think I have found the link to Sir Henry Hughes Wilson. Do any of these surnames appear on your Vicars tree? The link to family tree maker would not work for me. Thank you.

Re: Rebecca Vicars, Vickers

Descendants of Rebecca Virginia Vickers

Generation No. 1

1. Rebecca Virginia1 Vickers was born Abt. 1771 in Scott County, Virginia,(then Russell county) and died 22 Nov 1842 in Scott County, Virginia. She married Thomas Easterling Abt. 1786 in Tennessee. He was born Abt. 1753 in North Carolina or England, and died 01 Jul 1815 in Scott County (was Russell county until 1840's), Virginia.

Notes for Rebecca Virginia Vickers:
Rebecca joined the Primitive Church at Copper Creek, Virginia on June 19, 1824.
Rebecca Vicars may have been at least one-half Cherokee Indian according to some accounts. The recordings of the Primitive Baptist Church of Copper Creek (two miles east of Nickelsville, Virginia) indicate that Thomas Easterling was received by letter on February 21, 1807. There is no reference to the church providing the letter. The recors do indicate that he was censured by the church on at least two occaions--once for "acting out of character with Bro. John Salyers," and once for "walking in an unchristian like way." On the first occasion he admitted his wrong and was forgiven; however, on the second occasion he was evidently given a letter of dismissal. There is no record of him returning to that or another church. His wife, Rebecca, was received into the same church by "experience" on June 19, 1824.

Thomas Easterling died on July 1, 1815, and is buried in the Easterling family cemetery in or
around Nickelsville, Virginia. Rebecca survived him and lived until November 22, 1842.
The Family of Thomas Easterling
Thomas Easterling and Rebecca Vicars (Vickers?) were probably married in either North Carolina
or Tennessee. In that era, state boundaries were not well defined, and the area of what is now
southeastern Tennessee was considered by some to be part of North Carolina and by others to be
part of Virginia. Actually, the area was a part of North Carolina and was known as the Watauga
settlements by the early settlers. North Carolina organized the area into a county in 1776, but
the failure of that state to provide the settlers with protection from Indian raids, led the
people to organize the territory into the State of Franklin in 1784. This experiment in self
government was short lived and North Carolina reasserted her jurisdiction a few years later.
Thomas and Rebecca had at least eleven children as proven by official records: John, Elizabeth,
William, Mary, Henry, Thomas Jr., James, Sarah, Nancy, Silas, and Catherine. There may have been others judging from the gaps between the ages of known children. If so, these children undoubtedly died young.

I am looking for information on Solomon Osborne Vicars, born about 1842, died about 1920. He was married to Martha Taylor Chapman in Virginia. His father is reported to be Robert P. Vicars and his mother was Unity Dorton. At sometime in the early 1900's he changed his name from Vicars to Dorton. It is reported that he had at least two children Rosa Belle Vicars (my great grandmother) and a son Robert H. (Harvey) Vicars. Any help or stories about the family would be greatly appriciated.

Thank you

Peggy

peggy I am the grandson of robert fred dorton your great-grandmother's brother. I am trying to establish the change in name between russel county virginia where grandpa and aunt rosie were born. The change seems to have taken place between 1880 and 1910 when grandpa solomon, grandmother mattie my grandfather fred his oldest son elmer and mattie murry age 11 appear in grady county oklahoma. I would to know what information you might have. We have a national census center in seattle but we have only made one trip there so far and I am just beginning to try to put this together. I have some family stories as to why the change was made. The big question is what is known about solomon vicars in virgina after 1880. This information we will only be able to learn form other descendants of robert p vicars.

Hi Cousin, So happy to finally hear from you, I've been checking regularly to see if you were on. Had to call tell my brother about hearing from you. I may have some picttures of you when you were little. Mom sent me one of her some little kids, no names on them. If you send me your e-mail address, I will send you what I have on mom's family. I'm afraid I was never much in contact with her family either, most of this I've just learned from relatives in last year or so. The Burnett's have a family reunion every year we plan to go to next one. Was your mom's name Bonnie are you from Olkahoma? Aunt Cleste said she hadn't heard from her in 4 or 5 years. Is she still living? I've only Met Grandma Brooxie twice, she came to vist me when my first daughter, Linda, was born when we went out to Baltimore to mom's funeral. Were you still living there at that time? Please write to me at mrenolds@triton.net. Would love to hear more from you send picture, don't think I can send attachments to this Mesaage board. Love Mary Lou

Pennington (also Peddington) Vicars (Vickers) was my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather who lived in the 1700's. He was married to Agnes Sawrey. They had many children, but the one of my line was born in 1798 and that sons name was James Vicars (who apparently married Agnes Longhow). Anyway...I am dying for any information you name have about this family. They live in England. Pennington was from Watersend I believe.
Bev..hmm
not sure what system you have, but it should have gone through.
Start a new email in your normal email system. Send to:
Dawna111@aol.com

that should work

(this is what I dislike about this system here...won't let you email directly....and you can't attach a large file to this posted message.....sigh)
