My grand-father's name was Higinio. Neither he nor my grandfather were ever in Panama.

Sorry for the late response. My grandfather's name was Higinio Vila. Though he and my grandfather were born in Comerío, PR, my father told me that we all come from Juncos.
No doubt we originate from Spain.

I don't know if this post is still active. I am related to the Woods from the Canary Islands AND the last name Brigantti is familiar to me, I am sure I have heard my Dad, Diego Wood Marrero, use it. I am sure he is related somehow, as the Canary Island Woods are ALL related. Let me know, and I will ask my Dad next time I talk with him (my family still lives on the islands).

Do you have any relatives named Joseph Vila in New Orleans Louisiana. He is my mothers father. My mother Durette Lena Vila, died when i was 3 years old in 1973. She was 28 when she passed away and she was born and raised in New Orleans,LA. As far as I know she is an only child. From what I have been told her ancesters originated from Barcelona, Spain. Thats all I know and I would like to find out more.

Talk about dropping the ball. Eight years later!
As I mentioned previously (8 years ago!) My great grandfather was born in Comerio, Puerto Rico and perhaps lived a brief period in Juncos. He married Josefina Morales.
One on his son's name (my grandfather) was Manuel (everyone called him Manolo). My father as well as myself and siblings were raised in the Bronx, NY.

My part of the Vila family comes from a small town near Barcelona called Vilasar de Mar. My grand father was Juan Vila-Mas was born in Cuba and my great grandfather Geronimo Vila-Rocca was born in Cataluna.

My family came from Minorca and the name was POU or DE POU, (that in the Catalon tongue means Well or source of drinking water.)
I have learned recently that PEDRO POU, born about March 7,1656, in Ciudadela, Beleares, Spain, married CATALINA VILA about Feb.27,1683 in Ciudadela, Beleares, Spain.
I would like to know if anyone would know the names of there children?
I have some information on my Great (6 times) grandfather PHILLIP POU who married Ursala Mureno in Scotland, but can not find who his parents were, and thought that perhaps it may have been PEDRO POU and CATALINA VILA .

Justina Ramos Rodriguez and families

I would like to have any information on Justina Ramos Rodriguez. Her Husband was Nicholas Rodriguez. Justina was from Mexico and her husband was from San Luis Obispo.
He died in the 1930's and she in 1989 or1990 she was onehundred years old. Her sister lived to be 102 or 103.
She had several Children and lived her later years with her daughter and family in Guadalupe California or Santa Maria.

My father, Domingo Vila Suarez, was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. I was able to obtain a lot of information about my paternal ancestors through the Historical Archives of the Dioceses of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain. Most of my early ancestors were born in villages in the vicinity of a town called Zas. My great grandfather relocated to the Canary Islands in the 1800s. One of my uncles was named Juan Vila. My Dad lived in PR for a couple of years around 1946 (my Mom was from Santurce). Most Vila branches originated in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Galicia or Portugal. One of the Minorcan colonists that founded the city of St. Augustine (the oldest in the U.S.) had the surname Vila. His name is listed on a monolith in the cathedral of that Florida city.

Sorry it took so long to answer ur email, i only have access to a computer @ work. I am not sure if my Dad was in Panama but i will find out. My mother told me that he does have a son,by another woman,while he was in the service, so let me find out what i can, and i will contact u as soon as i find out, you will defintetly hear from me today. Bernardo Campos (parents Martin Campos and Juana Vila) was born 8 Apr 1798 in Villa Carlos (Es Castell), Menorca, Spain. His godparents were Gaspar Prats and Juana Preto.

Bernardo first married Ana Piernes. She died.

The widower Bernardo then married Eulalia Campos on 27 Jun 1832 in Villa Carlos (Es Castell), Menorca, Spain. Eulalia (parents Antonio Campos and Margarita Preto) was also born in Villa Carlos (Es Castell). Bernard and Eulalia were also 2nd cousins.

Bernardo Campos and Eulalia Campos had the following children:

I am searching my grandfather, Santos Valdes VILA, who was born in Cuba in 1865, or any of his three brothers, Lazaro, Carlos and Emerito, all born in Cuba. Santos and his brothers moved to Key West, Florida in the 1880s. Santos owned a cigar factory in Key West named La Flor de Santos V. Vila. I believe Lazaro Valdes VILA returned to Cuba and worked in the new Republic ca. 1902. His children may have stayed in Cuba. His brothers' families all remained in the United States.
