What would be most helpful would be to post what information you know about your parents, grandparents, etc. full names, dates of birth and death, place of birth death, their siblings. That way folks can be of the most help to you. Don't worry if you don't get a reply right away; sometimes queries sit for years before someone replies, other times right away. Patience is the key!

Re: Parents of Nancy Estelle Vinson, b.1854 SC

I think I just had a bit of a breakthrough! Loucinda was not having children after 1860 - her first daughter was. (Please note a lot of what follows are assumptions on my part...)

In the 1870 Census, we have Lucinda Chastain age 53, Stacy Chastain age 8, Georg W Chastain age 12, Nancy A E Chastain age 8, and Edney M Chastain age 2. I believe Stacey is Stacey Ann Chastin age 18 (not 8), Loucinda's daughter from her 2nd "marriage".
In the 1880 census, we can find Mary Chistein age 26, Ella Chistein age 12, John Chistein age 10, Thomas Chistein age 8, - Chistein age 3, - Chistein age 4m. I think this is Stacey and her 5 illegitamate children. Stacey was "involved" with John J Cooley for years, and "she bore him seven children, namely, John T. Cooley, Ella Alverson, Thomas O. Cooley, Esther Cothran, Sanford Cooley, Anna Prudence Cooley, and Olliday Cooley. All of these children were confessedly born out of the bonds of wedlock, except Olliday Cooley." (The Southeastern reporter, Volume 36, p 563 (58 S. C. 168) COOLEY et al. v. COOLEY et al. (Supreme Court of South Carolina. July 11, 1900.)

From the above, I think the Edney Chastain born about 1868, always given as a daughter of Loucinda's, was actually Ella Cooley, Stacey Chastain's first illegitamate child with JJ Cooley (who was 30-35 years older than her!!)
Anyone have any thoughts or comments on this.....?

The only reason I can't tell you off hand is that I have had little contact with the Vinson side of my family over the years do to work and moving so much. Now that I am retired and my wife and I are into family histories I have been researching them. I still have one aunt and uncle on the Vinson side still living.

Hi! I just got back into the search.

Jock Vinson, if I remember my mom's stories right, was my great grandfather. My Grandfather was William, and my mom's brother was Lloyd. I believe Lloyd was born in the 1919's, it is possible his son, Billy was born in the 30's, but they lived in California at the time.

Do you show Jock to be buried at the Zoe cemetary near Hodgens, OK?

Also, if one of the Lloyd Vinson's you have listed, had sisters named Margaret, Della, Elma and Lorene, their mother was Annie. There also was a baby brother that did not survive his toddler years.

I don't know that this is the right person:
Georgia Deaths, 1919-98 about Cora L Vinson
Name: Cora L Vinson Death Date: 13 Feb 1953 County of Death: Fulton Gender: F Race: W Age: 68 years
County of Residence: Fulton Certificate: 3655
I don't know where she died or if she died in prison. I was researching her because my grandmother (now dead) told me she was the sister to one of our relatives, her name was Maggie Virginia (Jennie) Jackson and married into our O'Shields line. She was married to E. Paul O'Shields. They divorced and my grandmother said Jennie moved to Florida and married a marine. I have not found proof of this nor have I found where E. Paul O'Shields was buried either. I do have a newspaper article where Jennie and E. Paul were fighting over their three children. Do you know what Cora's maiden name was?

Gigi,
Thank you so much for this information. I believe that our Maggie Virginia Jackson was Cora Lou Jackson Vinson's sister but I have not been able to prove it yet. Maggie named her youngest daughter Annie Louise O'Shields. Since Cora's middle name is Lou, I wonder if her sister named her daughter after her. My guess is that Maggie is for Margaret. My grandmother called her Jennie and I believe that is short for her middle name, Virginia. Maggie divorced her husband, Edgar Paul O'Shields and moved to Florida and married a marine. My grandmother did not know the new husband's name. My grandmother has passed on but she knew all these people when she was a young woman. If you learn anything about Cora's sister, please let me know. I have some articles about Cora and you can contact me direct at daynamcmullen@gmail.com if you would like them.
Thanks,
Dayna Cohen McMullen

Hello .... I am Gigi Monet Jackson .. Cora Lou Jackson Vinson was my Great-Grandaunt .. this is my family ... Joel Simpson Jackson Sr was Cora's older brother ... my great-grandfather .. William Woodrow Jackson and Martha Malinda Potts were there parents I have most of the family from my 4th Great-Grand parents ... I do not know where Cora is buried and have just begun to get involved with this line .. Cora's family. I am of the that Simpson line of Jackson's ... see following:

William Jackson Sr & Unknown (From South Carolina)
William Jackson Jr. & Mary Elizabeth Arthur (From South Carolina)
William Woodrow Jackson Sr. & Martha Malinda (Grandma Jack) Potts (From South Carolina & Georgia)
Joel Simpson Jackson Sr. & Grace Lou (Mother Jack) McEntyre (From Georgia)
Roy Simpson Jackson Sr. & Nellie Mae Bosworth (from Georgia)
Roy Simpson Jackson Jr. & Iva Ruth Johnson (From Georgia & California)
Me (From Georgia)

I have become very intrigued with this story .. as it was my grandfather Roy Sr and his father Joel Simpson known as (Simp)that testified in the trial .. my father Roy Jr. was only 3-4 yrs old at the time. Please contact me and I will help with what I can ... but I too am looking as to what became of Cora at her end.

Also .. you will find Cora with her parents and siblings in the 1880 census in Dawson County, Georgia. W. W. Jackson and Martha as her parents .. she is listed as Lucora .. rather then Cora Lou .. you know how the census were .. smile! W. W. for William Woodrow. I have not been able to find the 1900 on this part of my family .. I do have the 1970, 1910, and 1920 as well as 1930. The 1900 has given me fits!

1880 United States Federal Census
about W. W. Jackson Name: W. W.
