Evening all!

Im trying to find the Birth Certificate for my Great Grandmother. Her name on certificate would be Nellie WAINWRIGHT, birth date is confirmed at 5th December 1917.

I have found one birth cert which seems right but the registration date is shown as Jan-feb-march quarter of 1918. Would a birth in December 1917 be registered as first quarter of the new year?

Do I need to request a certified copy from the GRO to be 100% sure ive got the right cert?

Thanks

Just to add ive found her death & marriage certs on here okay.

Looking for paternal Grandparents - WAINWRIGHT

Hi
I am trying to trace my paternal grandparents, my dad, Trevor Bernard Wainwright (surname changed when adopted) was born on 27.09.1951 at Lambeth Hospital, his mother was Yvonne Marie Wainwright, of Holland Park in Kensington, the fathers details are not on the birth certificate. I think she was around 19, I don't know for sure but this age is in my head. I think I have found a marriage certificate for her, and she married Joseph F Worthington in 1953.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated

John B Wainwright b abt 1848 married to an Emma b abt 1850. Had following children that I know of: Elizabeth abt 1870; David, abt 1876; and Nettie, abt 1868. Nettie drowned and is connected with Bert Handley who also drowned both together in Cincinnati in 1893. Handley is connected to one of my family line Jenks and I am trying to find out how. It is an interesting puzzle. The clipping is interesting and sad. Will share info. Joan

Do you know if the J.E. was for Julius Emelius? I did not have Charles Alfred in my tree at all, but my mother just told me that she did have an "Uncle Alfred" whom she believes was her grandfathers brother (Her grandfather was Stanley (Emelius Stanley) Wainwright.)

I'm going to add him to my tree - I had thought that it was Mary LaRoche who Emelius Van Buren Wainwright had married, so its interesting to see the name "Aglia" do you have any info on her family history you would be willing to share?

It makes sense that he came to the US to work with sugar since thats what they did in the west indies.

First, I greatly appreciate this message board. One of the duties my late mother gave me was to be the family historian - and her father's past disappeared in oblivion, until now. My maternal grandfather was Charles Alfred Wainwright, born Oct 3 1900. Auntie Em (Emmeline) was his sister, Stanley his brother. I believe there was another uncle, but haven't a name. Charles was an interesting character - as project engineer, he put together an early sugar refinery at Raceland, LA, helping to bring Godcheaux sugar into the 20th Century. My grandfather's parents were J.E. Van Buren Wainwright and Aglia LaRoche, Tunapuna, Trinidad BWI.

"Wainwright Mansion" in Milton, MA, ~1900-1920's

Hello,

It took me many years to find out where my Charles W. RICE went to after he and his wife separated ~1880. I still don't know where he lived from 1880 to 1910. But, several years ago another researcher found him in the 1910 census. He was living at the "Wainwright mansion" in Milton, MA, as a live-in gardener.

I just read an old response to my old query which said that Arthur WAINWRIGHT died in 1923. My gr-gr-grandfather, Charles RICE, became ill and went to live in a nephew's home. He died in 1916. We have no pictures of Charles so have no idea what he looked like.

The 1910 census has Arthur, 47, and a single man. He had 6 servants living with him.

WAINWRIGHT, ARTHUR (1910 U.S. Census)
MASSACHUSETTS , NORFOLK, MILTON
Age: 47, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: MA
Series: T624 Roll: 609 Page: 105

Through HeritageQuest, I'm not finding Arthur in 1920. And I don't see him in 1920 at www.familysearch.org But that site reminds me he was born in Boston in 1863 to parents, Henry and Sarah WAINWRIGHT. Could Arthur have also became ill and moved to Boston? Or, perhaps he retired to Florida?

I just checked on-line and find this tidbit of information:

Blue Hill ter.
Wainwright Arthur, h. Canton av. n. Dollar lane
Wainwright Frances, widow of Isaac, bds. Wm. 0. Partridge

Adams
Wainwright Henry C. Mrs., h. Canton av., n. Dollar lane
Waite Charles E., laborer, h. Highland cor. Randolph av.
Waitt Charles G., civil engineer, h. Sheldon, E.M.
Wakefield Jeremiah, foreman (Wareham st., B.) h. Oak n.

Eice Charles, gardener, emp. H. C. Wainwright, bds. do.

.. I think this is a city directory from 1906.

http://www.archive.org/stream/residentbusiness00bost/residen...

.. Thinking about this situation this morning, I wondered whether I could find Charles in 1880 or 1900. I just found a possible man in 1880 in North Quincy. But, he is listed as having a wife, Ella G. RICE, 26. That is possible, as we don't know when he separated from his first wife, Adelaide.
Hi Rodney,

I'm thinking about my Charles RICE, again, and checking old postings. I just noticed (4 yrs. later) that I never responded to thank you for the information.

What I'm thinking about specifically is whether there is a history of the mansion, and whether any descendant of Arthur had pictures to share. I just noticed in your information that Arthur died in 1923. So, that was not too long after my Charles died.

(We have pictures of Charles' wife and her brother from the HUTCHINSON Farm in Winchester. But, none of the selection of pictures we have includes a picture of Charles. So, we don't know what he looked like.)

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(on Lists and Boards for 10 yrs.; now an Admin for 9 Lists and 3 Boards)

James Wainwright of Crayke, Yorkshire, England

I'm trying to find more details of James Wainwright, probably born around 1800, who has been reported to be the father of William Dale, born 1819 in Crayke, Yorkshire.

The evidence I have so far is:
William Dale & Hannah Brigham's marriage register entry
Parish transcript showing William Dale born in 1819, was baptised with only "Mary Dale" as the parent.

I'm trying to find William Dale's death register entry but no luck to date on that front.

The only other entry I have for a James Wainwright at Crayke is a marriage record in the parish transcript... on 23 Nov 1792 to Hannah Swales (both of the Crayke parish, witnessed by Bryan Luty & John Wainwright)... but there are no other Wainwrights in the parish record. If it's the same James Wainwright then perhaps he was born much earlier... 1770ish.

I'd love to find out more on James Wainwright at Crayke. If you have anything further to add please contact me.

Hi,

I have a Robert BIRGIN in my tree who was murdered at the age of 22 by a James WAINWRIGHT in Liverpool on 11 May, 1872. Robert's widow Catherine BIRGIN nee LOYDEN went on to marry Edward FAGAN. My husband is their great, great grandson.

According to a report of the inquest published in the Leeds Mercury on May 25, "Robert Burgin, a dock labourer, died from wounds recieved in a fight. The fight was one arising out of a public house brawl between a number of person drinking together and resulted in the stabbing of the deceased by a man named Wainright, a sailor. The jury, after deliberation, returned a verdict of Wilful Murder against Wainwright."

I have found no further information regarding his trial, etc. Robert and Catherine were Catholic. Wainwright is not a common Irish Catholic name but I have found some in the Liverpool RC Indices on the Liverpool History Project site. James was a sailor so it is possible that Liverpool was not even his home port.

Does anyone have any information on James' case? I heard a rumour that Edward Fagan may have been involved in the fight but I do not know if this was merely speculation on the part of a realtive wanting a bit of juicy gossip in the family tree. I would be very interested to know the details.

regards,
Rebecca Fagan

You are correct about Stanley's grandfather and father.

Stanley's sister, Emmeline did come to the US in around 1920. My grandfather Julius Evans (he went by Evans) came to the US in 1922.
Wainwrights of Hawarden Flintshire.

Riddles to unfold.
1/ Catherine Wainwright has son Charles 1861 but Edward and Charles 1871. Is he shown as Edward Connah living with his uncle Peter?
2/ Missing husband 1861 (William married 1860 I am sure) has father John but census shows an old man Thomas with Catherine as Father-in-law or is he a grandfather or (great-) uncle.
3/ Boiler makers seems to be the male family connection here and the booming railway, coalmining, shipyards etc. They seem to work away a lot. Hence missing William?
4/ William dies 1862 ish was he in injured in the fire in Chester Queens hotel? Is there a list. eg insurance.
Arnold Francis Wainewright (1807-1847) Doctor in NYC

Looking for the wife of Arnold Francis Wainewright who was a doctor (surgeon) in New York City. He was a Professor of Chemistry and Medicine in the Medical College of New York. He came to the US from England about 1837 and lived at 41 Crosby Street in NYC. He died in 1847 of a rattlesnake bite, a very crazy story. His son is my ggfather and I can go back a bit on his side but am looking for the name of his wife. Would appreciate any help! Thanks.
