I am seeking the descendents of this couple: "Connaught Journal; Feb 3, 1823 #1, MARRIAGES: At the Friends' Meeting-house, in Belfast, John WAKEFIELD, formerly of Dublin, to Hannah, daughter of John BELL, of Greenmount."

John Hanna Wakefield, my great grandfather, is my brickwall. He was born in Jan 1827 in TN (MS according to some census records) and his parents were born in Ireland (or he in England depending on the census). He married Louisa Frances Matthews in MS abt 1850; later moved to AR and then to TX.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Does anyone share Wakefield ancestors in East Finchley, North London? At the top of my tree I have William Wakefield born around 1796, who married Susan Sumner in 1823 in Finchley. Among their children are William b 1832, Jonathan b 1835 and Abraham b 1840. I have been unable to progress further back as unable to find William's baptism.

I'm not too confident Hayden E is directly related but probably cousins. I know that my Great Great Grandfather James Archibald born 13Feb1852 was born in Lafayette, Macon County, TN. He married Lucy Lee Johnson born 28Nov1863 in Hillsdale, Macon County, TN. They were married abt 1881. They moved to Itasca, Hill County, TX where my Grandfather Oscar Bertram Wakefield was born 5Oct1885. I know that they then moved to Seattle, King County, WA where my father was born.

Don't know if any of this helps, just wanted to add it to see if anything would be useful. Good luck.

Steve Wakefield
swakefi2000@yahoo.com
Good suggestion. I need to look at Daniel and Lucy's family and Samuel and Olive's too. Based on a Wakefield family book and on the 1800 census, I've found only two Wakefields in York County that were the right age and who had daughters 16-25: Ezekiel and Gibbons. Must dig deeper.
Thanks for the tip on Dennis and Olive at the Baptist cemetery. There are so many little cemetery plots in Sandwich; my sister and I gave up looking for ancestor graves.
Judie

Thanks for the DOD for Louisa. As for the Wakefields, a connection to a John would explain the name John for One the sons of Samuel and Olive. I assume you have infrmation on Samuel's parents and siblings, but let me know if you have any questions. I've gathered quite a bit of information about them, especially in recent years. I am familiar with the Hubbard book you mentioned. It covers the first four generations of Philp's descendants quite well, but after that, there are many gaps. Through great efforts of my own, and through correspndence with a few other Hubbard decendants, I've been able to fill in many of them.

My line:
1. Daniel Hubbard and Lucy Ricker parents of Samuel)
2. Daniel Hubbard (Jr.) and Fanny Day
3. Daniel Hubbard and Jane Clark McNeal
4. George Mifflin Dallas Hubbard and Elizabeth Sievwright
5. George Goodbody Hubbard and Lucy Anne Eiden
6. George Eiden Hubbard and Ann Frances Stuczynski
7. Edward George Hubbard

While I was in Maine and New Hampshire last week, I drove up to Sandwich, where I came across the Baptist cemetery and found the graves of your Dennis and Olive Carter. What a coincidence! We must have been feeling the same cosmic vibes.

Ed

Great to get your reply. I thought that you may have gleaned more information in the past year. Samuel is my 3rd great grandfather through Mary Hubbard and Benjamin Corliss, Olive Corliss and Dennis Carter, Almon Carter and Addie Webster, and my living father.
Louisa is listed in the Maine death records, even tho' she died in NH. She died 13 Apr 1857.
My search continues into the Wakefield line that Olive came from - and there are many possibilities in Maine. I haven't yet made the direct connection to John Wakefield.
There are also many descendants of Philip Hubbard in Maine. I've relied on the Hubbard book (1000 years of Hubbard History) for most of my Hubbard info, but I can see that it would lack much, especially later than 1895.
Thank you for the additional information!

Thanks for your response. Subsequent to my post, I found Olive's death in the 1850 census mortality schedule. Since the deaths recorded therein would have occurred in the year prior to the census date (June 1), Olive's death would have been in Dec. 1949,not 1850. You are right about the tow daughters marrying the Corliss brothers. According to the censuses, both brothers were in Sandwich in 1840, and Benjamin was recorded there through 1880, but John C. was in Wolfboro (wheer Olive died) in 1850, and then in Moultonborough in 1860 and 1870. I have found dates of birth and death for both brothers as well as for Benjamin's wife, Mary, but not for Louisa. It seems that she was born about 1810 or 1811 and died between 1850 and 1860.

Samuel and Olive had four sons who were born by 1810. I believe they were George (b. 1802/3) who lived in Wakefield, Aaron (b. 1808) who was of Wakefield and then of Milton, probably a John (b. c.1804) and another son (b. c.1806) who was probably the child who died in Shapleigh in 1813. They also had a child who d. 1817 as well as yet another son who (per the 1820 census) was born between 1810 and 1820 - probably (given the births of the other children) later in that decade. I have not yet been able to identify him.

I am a great-great-great-grandson of Samuel's younger brother, Daniel, and have been intensively researching the Hubbards. What is your connection? You may contact me directly at eghubbard@att.net, if you wish.

I also am looking for the parents of Olive Wakefield Hubbard.
I do know the following: She and Samuel Hubbard had at least two daughters, Mary and Louisa, who married brothers from Sandwich, Carroll County, NH: Benjamin Corliss and John C Corliss. Benjamin stayed in Sandwich, whil John moved elsewhere in NH. After Sam'l Hubbard's death in 1834, it seeems that Olive may have moved to NH. She died in Carroll County, NH, in Dec, 1850.

Hi,
I am trying to trace the children of John and Emma Wakefield who lived at 10 Risley Ave, Haringay, London. My mother was their daughter Ivy Helen Wakefield. I believe she had a brother, Jack, and a sister, Doris. If anyone has any info re my aunt and uncle or maybe my cousins, please let me know. I don't know Emma's maiden name or birth dates
for either of them. I just know that Emma died in 1968.
Thanks
Kay

Have any of you seen the letter written to a Tom Brown Sadler in Cookeville,Tennessee dated April 9,1935? This is posted on heritagequestonline.com. It lists 10 children with 2nd wife Mary.It does not list her maiden name. But my quess would be Simpson as she had a near relative living near her in 1851 whose name was James Simpson. The exact relationship was unknown. However since their ages were only 4 years apart,he was not her father.Possibly he was her brother. When Henry Wakefield was living in Burke County,North Carolina in 1790,there were 2 men named Simpson living near him.One was James and the other was John per the 1790 census. This information stated in this letter to Tom Brown Sadler was from the Revolutionary War application for pension W.35.No children are listed for his 1st wife Elizabeth Alexander. Here are the 10 children listed for Henry and Mary:Agness Wakefield b.Dec.26,1792 Isabella Wakefield b.December 8,1794 Henry Wakefield b.June 6,1796 Simpson Wakefield b.March 6,1799 John Wakefield b.Agust 22,1801 Alexander Wakefield b.August 22,1801 Silas Burkes Wakefield b.May 12,1807 James Matison Wakefield b.May13,1811 Polly Wakefield b.Jan.26,1814 and Thomas Jefferson Wakefield b.August 12,1816.This letter states that Henry Wakefield moved from North Carolina in 1796 or 1797 to Sumner County,Tennessee and then to Smith County,Tennessee. If that is accurate, the first 2 children were born in North Carolina and possibly the third. The other 7 children would have been born in Tennessee. The spellings here are as they are in the letter.I am related to Henry Wakefield through Jeanette Wakefield marrying Henry McWhorter whose daughter,Agnes"Nancy" marrying William DeWhitt.Judge William Henry DeWitt of Tennessee,a nephew of my 3rd great grandfather,William DeWhitt, was related to Henry Wakefield through his mother Mary McWhorter DeWhitt who was the sister of William DeWhitt's wife Nancy.Henry's service in the Battle of King's Mountain is mentioned in Judge DeWitt's biography in Goodspeed's History of East Tennessee. This biography or one other says that Henry Wakefield was Judge DeWitt's mother's uncle.
Frances was born 9 Feb.1900 and died 1975 whereas Thelma is still living in Paraparaumu and her deceased Husband William Alfred Green was
b.21 Aug.1923 and died 2004. Frances married in 1954 so presumably she was either Thelma's Mother or an Aunt or no relation at all !!!!
regards Graham C.
I am seeking information on a Thelma Emily Frances Wakefield,(married name Green) who was born around 1920's, unsure of birth location, but lived most of her life in Wellington, New Zealand.
From examining Census and Electoral records, I have noticed that a Frances Euphemia Wakefield lived in the same suburb of Wellington at the same date, so this may be a relative, unsure whether sister, mother or aunt?

This side of my family has been kept very private, and I have never been given any details, so any information regarding this would be very helpful.

Thanks
Emma

You know what is so interesting is that is what my birth name is "Mary Elizabeth Wakefield" what goes around comes around I guess. It has been so much fun looking back over the years of history. It's too bad they didn't preserve more of what they had for us down the line. I have history on my mother's side as well that goes all the way back to
1735 and most of her relatives were in Alabama, Georgia, Tenn. If you find any pictures of Silas and his family please let me know I would love to have some too. Did you go back as far as Henry who was the fathr of Silas and then to Charles the father of Henry?

Mary, thanks for the nice offer on the photograph but I think I would only be interested in photos of the kids of Silas Burke Wakefield and his wife, Sophrenia Sutton Wakefield. My gg grandmother was a sister to your Leroy Thomas Wakefield or she was the daughter of Silas and Sophrenia. She was the girl named Mary Elizabeth Wakefield. She married my gg gradfather, John Allison of Dade County GA. When you look on the 1860 census for Dade County GA, you will find Silas Wakefield and his family. Two doors down is my John and Mary Wakefield Allison with their two kids. Thanks for sharing your family's story. Gil

I have some pictures of my grandfather Andy Roy Wakefield, who was born in Palo Pinto, TX and is the son of Leroy Thomas Wakefield who is the son of Silas Burke Wakefield, who is the son of Henry Wakefield and who is the son of Charles Wakefield & Elizabeth Moore when they were married in 1746 in Albermarle, Virginia. One picture I have of my grandfather and his family looks like they are the "hole in the wall gang". I knew my grandfather Andy Roy, but he wasn't much of a grandfather or father. He married someone I did not know nor did my father before he married my grandmother's sister whose name was Foy, and she died and then he married my grandmother Alice and he left her with 4 kids during the depression to go and live with someone named Minnie but I don't know if he ever married her or not.
There wasn't much communication with him, not much to communicate about as I don't think he was a very nice man. I met him just a couple of times. My father obviously inherited his cooking skills tho as my grandfather at one time had several restaurants/cafe's here in the Southern California area before the depression hit. He lived in Denver, CO, Texas and California. When he died he was living up in Northern California. There was always rumors about indian blood on that side of the family but don't know where it came in although in one picture I think there was a picture of a woman standing there and she looked like full blooded indian. If you would like copies of the pictures I can send them but would like to know where your side of the family fits in this picture and where your side is related to.
mary

hello, nice to see your post. boy, sure wish we had some photographs of the kids of Silas Burke Wakefield. My knuckle headed family didn't save a thing. I looked at your ancestry post on Silas and I see a Sophia and Sophrenia Sutton, I believe that is one person and not two.

my mystery with Silas B Wakefield is where he is buried. I assume in Collin County TX near Melissa but have been unable to prove that.

if you would like to chat personally, my email is
aronos
at
sbcglobal.net

My father Floyd Lee wakefield is a descendant of Leroy Thomas Wakefield. He is the father of my grandfather Andy Roy Wakefield and is on the 1860 census it shows Silas Burke Wakefield with his childrens names listed and one of those is Leroy T. Wakefield. My grandfather Andy Roy Wakefield married my grandmother Alice Lee Marsh.
seresmary59

Billie and Gil-

I hope that you don't mind my joining the conversation. I too am a descendant of Leroy Thomas Wakefield -- through his son Newton Douglas Wakefield. (Gil -- it is possible that we have correspondend before?)

I am currently working on submitting Henry Wakefield as a supplemental ancestor for DAR and am stuck on Leroy Thomas as I don't have a document that show that Silas Burke Wakefield was his father.

Are either of you aware of anything that documents this (will, probale record, etc.)? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Best Regards
Beth Calhoun
cyranophilly@earthlink.net
