I am seeking to confirm the parents of Sophia Wales, born 23 Dec. 1816 in Maryland. She married George Downing in 1833 in Columbus, Indiana. I've seen postings that her parents were Leonard Covington Wales and Elizabeth Daugherty, but have not seen confirmation. I've also seen that she reportedly said that she was "half Irish and half Tuckahoe Indian", but again nothing to confirm. Any information would be appreciated.

I am researching my dads side of the family.

I know we had relatives in Pennsylvania. My dads great great grandfather came from Ballybay in Ireland and visited relatives in Pennsylvania around 1865-1870. He and Mary McGuinnis had a daughter Emily Wales in 1869 but did not marry until 1870. I had wondered if they had run away to America because either she was pregnant or because she was catholic and his family dissaproved or both. We know they were back in Ireland by the time they had their second daughter in 1871.

We don't know what Wales relatives it was he was visiting.

My grandfather was William Chauncy Wales (1897-1968) and he and his brother (and other siblings), Burton Lincoln Wales were born in Abington or North Abington, MA. Their mother was Lydia Bass a direct descendant of John Alden. I'm not aware of any indian connection. Their father was Simeon Webster Wales. I am not aware of the origin of my great uncle Burt's first name, Burton. Maybe there is a connection with your William Burton Wales.

Hello,
I am trying to piece together my Wailes, Wales, or possibly Wayles heritage. My gr grand father John Wailes was captain of the brig "Mexican" I believe his route was New Orleans to New York,His wife was Mary Ann Burton. The Wailes family was from Mass. I believe from around Marble Head, I have been told the prodgenator of this fammily was Mahitalbe Wales. Of course this is only hearsay. I belive Mary Ann's father was also a captain and his name was Petr Burton. This seems to be quite a diverse family. I do know they married into the Bass family, which is part Powhatten indian. This has become quite a tangled mess since there seems to be changes to the Wailes name seveeral times. Would be glad to share any and all information I have ane my unproven speculations.
Kind regards, Cathleen

Hi,

I have never run across this book. I checked in Wordcat.org and the Library of Congress and neither have Russell Donald Ramette listed as an author. Although a Cape May NJ library does have a folder of his information. Anyhow, does the book give any information on the two brothers that moved to Maryland ? Specifically names, occupation, and time frame ?

I only have traced Jospeh Wales back to 1830. He seemed to be a shoemaker working at times in Baltimore Maryland and other times in St. Michaels Maryland. So far I have not been able to connect him further back then that.

Looking through my notes I found this:
Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin Vol 36, Spr 1995, No2: "The Wailes Family of Early Maryland and Some of Their Relatives on the Eastern and Western Shores" by Ernest C. Allnutt, page 145.

I do not have a copy of this. I just made a note that it exists when I found it in a library. A friend of mine may have a copy, if you would like something checked on. I can probably get her to mail you a copy, if she does in fact have it. I can also check next time I get down to the library I found it in. But no guarantee when that might be.

What is the earliest information for your Edward Lloyd Wailes ? Let me know and I can see if anything jives in my notes. I'm very open to any information or clues you may have since I'm obviously dead-ended on this.

Thanks for your response,

Don
I have just gone on the net and am just learning. However I hope to have something you might not have. I have a Wales family history, written by Russell Donald Ramette, of Dor-
chester Mass. He finished his history in 1979 and shortly thereafter he died. I wrote to his widow and she sent me a copy of this. I found it very interesting and still have not made the connection for my Edward Lloyd Wailes, later changed to Wales. I think my ancesters came from one of the two brothers that moved to Maryland , and then came on down toward the south.

Have you been in touch with this party. I'm not sure if his wife is still alive, but if you are interested, I could make copies of this for you. It might be worth a shot.

Married Mary Florence Adams. 1900 census showing him living with an aunt Josie Beauchamp. Not sure that she is a Wales. 2) Alfred C Wales, b 1886 - Alabama, d 1960 Texas. Married a Louise. 1900 Census showing him living with an Aunt Elizabeth Baird(Beard)...she is a Wales, Margaret Elizabeth Wales b 1841 Alabama d 1925 Texas. 3) possibly Jeffery Wales b 1887....no information.

Kirby Edward Wales (1865) may not be "Kirby Edward"....but was told that it was.
Dear Michael,
My name is Ruth Clarke nee Wales & it was with some interest that I read your posting on the 8-9-08 & if you are looking for Australian relatives, you've got plenty. Thomas Wales & Mary Edmonds had a son, John Edmonds who married Jennifer Jeffrees in 1834, their son was William Edmonds who married Mary Jane Maloney, in Bathurst, NSW, Australia, in 1873. Their son was Bertie Wales who married Ethel Day in Lithgow in 1907. Their son was Horace Wales whom married Gladys Jones in 1932 & that was my mother & father.I was one of 6 children, 2 of which are deceased. My parents had a total of 18 grandchildren. I have to hand more family details & documents, including a copy of the 1841 & the 1851 Census from Canborne & archive records. If you need more details, please contact me on my email, ruthclarke37@dodo.com.au,
yours sincerely
Ruth
Looking for any Wales relatives / researchers who have any information on the family origins in Cornwall. I have a Thomas Wales born in Redruth b 1786 but there doesn't seem to be any others prior to that. Where did they come from? His trade was a mason. He married Mary Edmonds b 1791 at St Hilary (Marazion) in 1810.

I am a descendant of Alfred Young and Fanny Wales - my grandmother was Edith Annie Young born in 1894 in Horley Surrey. I would be so pleased to hear from you - I have been looking for her family for many years and haven't had any luck up until now. I also believe that she had the same siblings but and Ethel was also mention and I didn't know anything about Barbara. I have quite a bit of information about the Wales and Young Family in the previous generations

From your name, I am assuming you are related to my great-grandmother Sara Clingan. What information were you trying to find? My family (pretty much the bulk of the offspring from those two) and I have been recently gathering information on our family and family tree. We have come against a lot of walls finding information on Victor's side, however. Perhaps you have come across something more in the last eight years?

Mary Jane was born in Cornwall England and at the time of her marriage to my gggrandfather, Samuel Rule, she resided at East Turnpike, Redruth.

They were married on July 21, 1857. Mary Jane was 25 years old and Samuel was 23.

I would love to have more information on Mary Janes family, siblings, etc. Mary Jane and Samuel immigrated in 1866 and ended up in Calumet, Michigan.

Thank you.
Barbara Rule
