Hi Richard. My name is David Harrison and my mother is Muriel Elizabeth Wallwork born in 1919 and the only child of Frank Wallwork who was son of Alfred and Ann Wallwork of Hulme. Alfred was a son of Henry Wallwork who married a lady called Ann in 1846 and died in 1860. Henry had earlier been imprisoned for 6 months for embezzlement and charged with another unspecified offence in 1849 but acquitted. I cannot find any Birth Cert or reference in any record to Henry's birth so I have asked for a copy of his Marriage Cert. I am just embarking on my Wallwork Family Tree and any info you have would be really appreciated.

Hi Tara,

I have just seen your post on the Wallwork family and believe we have a link. I have only just started to research the Wallwork family recently for my husband.

In your post you mentioned a William Thomas Richard Wallwork, son of John Wellington and Caroline Bayman. The line I have been researching is William's younger brother Albert Edmund Chameray Wallwork, who is my husbands Great Grandfather. I believe that John Wellington and Caroline had eleven children; Frances Louisa, Robert Bayman, Caroline, Sarah Maria, Joseph Samuel, Sarah Jane, John William, Lettice Eliza, William Thomas Richard, Mary Jane Perkins and Albert Edmund Chameray.

Am happy to make contact and share the information that I have. Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers
Jo heymissjo@hotmail.com

Hi,
I'm researching the history of rock climbing in the Cuillin mountains in Skye. There is a climb there called Wallwork's Route first climbed by William Wallwork (1887-1919) in 1915. William was from the Manchester area (possibly Walkden or Fallowfield)and had a brother Tom.
I would be very grateful for any biographical information. I have a photo if anyone is interested,
Regards'
Calum

Daniel M. Wallwork - Muskingum County, Ohio

Daniel M. Wallwork, one of the most highly respected citizens of Muskingum County entered into rest Sunday morning at 9:15 o'clock at the home on the Adamsville road.
About a year ago Mr. Wallwork received a fall resulting in an injury to his spine which baffled the skill and experience of physicians. During the past six months he had been growing steadily worse and had not left his bed for two or three months.
All that medical science could do to alleviate his sufferings was done without avail and after a night of unconsciousness he quietly passed away Sunday morning.

Mr. Wallwork was in his second term as director of the Muskingum county infirmary, a position in which he executed his duties in a manner that won the confidence and friendship to all that came in contact with him.
He was 66 years of age last January and had always been a resident of this county, having lived twenty-five years at the residence in which he died.
A widow, three daughters and two sons are left to mourn their loss of a kind indulgent husband and father.
The children are Estella V., living at home: Grace, the wife of Arthur F. Hess of Indianapolis; Lillian, the wife of William H. Claspill of Columbus; Fred Wallwork of Underwood street; this city, and Lawrence Wallwork of Columbus. (Ohio)
In addition to his immediate family Mr. Wallwork leave two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Anna M. Webster, Adair avenue; Mrs. Mary Smith, Ridge avenue; John Wallwork, East Pike and James Wallwork, McIntire avenue.
Mr. Wallwork was a veteran of the Civil war having served as a member of Company F, Sixty-second regiment and Company G. One Hundred and Fifty-ninth regiment O.V.I.
Sunday and Monday scores of sorrowing friends called at the house to take a last look at the remains of one who had been a sincere, honest and God-fearing man during life and who in death left a record of good deeds which will serve to keep his memory fresh in the minds of all who knew him for his worth.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at the house at 1 o'clock, Rev. C. L. Alspach officiating.
Interment will be made at Greenwood cemetery

Unknown Zanesville, Ohio newspaper
13 Dec 1906

A later obituary states he had the flag draped on his coffin. Also son-in-law Arthur Hess was leaving on the train to return to Indianapolis.

He was in the American navy and in American samoa in the 1880 census but I cannot find the entry of that now. I thought he was born in the USA in the easten states and Springville maybe Pennsylvania was mentioned as being where family were later. Thanks, Ana

William Wallwork b. abt 1818 Lancashire, England

The first husband of Alice Hurst Wallwork Scovil was William Wallwork, born abt 1818 in Lancashire, England. I have read an account that says William died accidentally during the voyage from England which arrived in New Orleans 14 Jan 1842, and Alice continued on to Nauvoo. A son named William was born later that year. The passenger list only shows Alice and her daughter Mary Ann, and I cannot find any information to confirm this account of William’s death. A source for the information was “History of Alice Hurst Walwork Scovill” by Bessie (Averett) Gourley, but I have not been able to locate it. Maybe a descendant has access to this information. If so, please contact me.

Don't know if this helps to see if there is any connection with our Wallwork families. Denise

Hi ,

I am wondering if I have any relation to your Annie Hilton. MY ggg grandfather was William H. Hilton. According to his obiturary he was born May 12, 1824 near Lancashire England. He married Jane Preston Feb 14, 1844 also near Lancashire England. She was born in Lancashire on Dec. 25, 1826. They emigrated to the U.S. along with their daughter Sarah Jane in 1848. They landed in Philadelphia and stayed there for a short time before moving on for short periods to New York State and Racine, Wisconsin ultimately settling in Ahnapee (now Algoma) Wisconsin in 1856. I thought there might be a connection since people often emigrated to the area where a relative lived.

My Grandfather Walter Miller was married to Ann Margerison Wallwork.
Jane's parents I think were Holt WALLWORK and Jane Margerison.
According to an entry on a vital record index their marriage took place 28Jun.1832 in St.Mary's Blackburn, Lancs.
I am sorry I cannot help with the original enquiry re Janet Wallwork, but from my research of Wallworks there seem to be many Wallworks in the Blackburn and Manchester areas, also many 'Jane's' which go by Anne or Janet.
Enid McVeigh, Calgary, Alberta.
William Wallwork

I found a 1870 Philadelphia census entry for William Wallwork, a wood turner born about 1816 in England and his apparent wife Emma Wallwork born 1832 in Pennsylvania who must have married before 1855 in the USA as there is a daughter Maria born 1855 Pennslyvania with them . We think William emigrated to the USA with 4 sons including William born 1846-47 an iron moulder who may be the one who went to Samoa by 1880. Does anyone have access to the American Samoa 1880 census records.? I would love to know more about this family somehow. Thanks.

I have tried to contact you several times but had given up as you never reply. I have found a William Wallwork aged 23 in the 1870 census in Philadelphia whom I supect is our common interest. He was born in England, was a iron moulder which sounds likely. His father was William Wallwork aged 54 born in England and a wood turner. I found our William in American Samoa in the USA Navy in the 1880 census with a brother but I can not find him again to see if the two ages correlate. You may be able to find him where I can not. I would be very pleased to hear from you and to get your families information which you promised me ages ago. Ana Squire.

I think I may have found the James Wallwork I was looking for in the 1841 census of Oldham, Lancashire, England. He was age 60, occupation--hatter, living in district 23. James had a wife Martha, age 64, and also in the house were James-36, Robert-26 (coal miner), Joseph-21, and Jane-15. Now I need to establish whether he had a son, William, b. abt 1818, who married Alice Hurst and emigrated to the U.S. in Nov. 1841.
Is anyone familiar with this family?

There is another family also in the area with very similar family names - so I can't be sure. If we can connect these familys we have a lot of the family tree

Hi Denise
My grt grt grandparents were James & Hannah Wallwork from Pendlebury. My grt grandfather John, a coal miner, was born in 1848 & he had one brother, William (born c. 1852) that I know about who married Margery. John married Mary Mowbray in co Durham and they emigrated to Australia in 1882. William had sons John & Edward who stayed in the Pendlebury area and also I think Nathan & James.
Any connection?

I'm so sorry - but I made a mistake on this posting.
It should be William Wallwork married to Alice (not James). I'm not sure this is the right family for Alice Graves Hurst, however, as this Alice appears to be too old.
