I'm working on Walston. I don't think that there was a Josiah W- b. 1834. Levin and his 2nd wife Eliz. Davis had a Josiah b. 1819/20 who m. Eliz. Moore and they had a son Josiah. Levin's 3rd wife Julie Ann Miller. His first wife was Sally B. Adkins. If you descend from Levin pls contact me. JudyNelson08@gmail.com

Thank you for your reply. The info you posted I already had found. I'm stuck finding anything about Lillian before she was married to Norman (my Grandfather). She was born in 1901 so there is nothing in the 1900 census. In the 1910 census I can't locate her, and in the 1920 census she was already married to my Grandfather.

Thank you for your help, have a great day.
Bert

I tried to send you a Family Tree Maker file but the message board will not let me attach it even in adobe acrobat format. I finally copied the information from the acrobat file. It is not up-to-date but may help. All of my family history has been packed away because of the summer storms on the Texas Gulf Coast but I am trying to unpack and update my files. My husband's Moore line is through Arilla Moore who married into the Richard Crump Murray/Murry family in TN - it has been so long since I worked on this line that I can't remember all of the details - I think I got some feed back that some of the research that I got from World Connect may be questionable -I just can't remember. I don't appear to have any of the Walston information computerized. I will keep you in mind when I continue the research.
Well I had evidently not checked this post in a while. Those are exactly the Walston's I am looking for. Amos Walston was from Summfield, LA. I have since divorced my husband but have 2 children, So now I researching the Walston's for them. Their grandfather Amos died a few years ago and his wife, their granny, was never close to Amos' family so she is of no help. We named our son Miles, who is now 14, after....who else... Miles Walston and I have a daughter who is 12. My ex also had 2 older daughters from a previos marriage. One is 28 years old and has been in the service for over 11 yrs. I have kept in touch with her and she is interested in the family history as well, as she has not seen her father in well over 15 yrs. I had heard from the kids grandfather that there is a reunion every 2 yrs. does anyone know the next place it will be held?

Robert, my husband descends from Thomas Walston (1655-1727) who imigrated first to VA and then to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, through William/Anne (1703 or 06/1778), Boaz/Bathsheba (1747-1823), David/Polly (not sure of his date of birth, died around 1813), Ebenezer/Eliza (born around 1806, died around 1837/38), Alexander/Ann E. (1836-1879), Henry J/Sally V (b. 1870-1949). My husband's line all stayed in MD and DE.

I thought that Helen only managed the FamilyTree DNA project not the Ancestry.com DNA project. We bought the kit for Ancestry.com, but have not submitted it yet. Maybe we'll get to do it this weekend.

Thanks, Marisel

Pam, I am posting here information that Helen Graves posted a while back. I probably got my information from her. I have a ton of material left to organize and have not found my source other than this. Note that she also thought Charles had married Nancy Maddux. It is very possible that Moore was a second wife. Nancy Maddux's mother does not mention her in her will. It could be that she was dead by then. Of course, it could also be that since she was a woman back then in her mind there was no need to mention her since she was mentioning her husband. As soon as I find more concrete proof, I will posted here. Thanks. Marisel Walston

FPam, I am posting here information that Helen Graves posted a while back. Marisel Walston

From: "Helen Graves"
Subject: [WALSTON] Somerset Co., MD - continued
Date: Tue, 20 May 2003 11:53:52 -0700

Here's more from my file folder on the Walston line -- or it could be two lines -- which have roots in Somerset Co., MD, beginning about 1675. I say 2 lines because the source for this info says that John and Margaret Walston's children who married in Somerset Co., MD, were John, Thomas, and Arabella. No mention of a son William Walston and per the source, only John, Thomas, and Arabella were named and received legacies in their father's 1693 will.

However, a William Walston appears in Somerset Co., MD, a few years before (1671) and married an Ann Catlin there in 1672. At this time I have no idea where this William Walston came from nor who his parents were, but he certainly stayed in Somerset Co. as there are records for him there, so keep this in mind which is the reason I say there could be two Walston lines from this area.

SOMERSET CO., MD, MENTIONS of Walston

Cattle marks:
1673 William Walstonne
1677 Thomas Walston
On 24 Nov 1679 William Walson (gave) a gift to Elizabeth Hamlin, daughter of George Hamlin, a cow and a calf.

Rent Rolls:
1665 - The "Desert". 400 acres, surveyed on 10 March 1665 by Stephen Horsey on Annamessex 100 at north point of the Annamessex River possessed by 246 acres to Thomas Walston and 154 acres to John Tull.
(Thomas Walston, son of John and Margaret, owned land called 'Desart'. )

1688 - 100 acres called "Promise Land" was surveyed on 2 June 1688 by Thomas Wallston.

1702 - 525 acres called "Desart" taxed 13 June 1702 Special Warrant on the Annamessex 100, Thomas Walston, near Jericho between Mannokin and Annamessex River. The Original Land Grant was for 400 acres.

Births for William and Ann (Catlin) Walston:
-- William Walstone, son of William Walstone, born 15 Dec 1673 and baptized 24 January following.
-- Deborah Walston, dau of William and Anne Walston, born 18 Sept 1682

Note: There could have been other children for them. I just have info on the births of these two.
**********************************************************************************************************
Keep in mind, that John Walston, Jr. (son of John and Margaret Walston, brother of the Thomas Walston who settled in Somerset Co., MD, and stayed there, married Pierce Manlove in 1681 and in 1685 purchased land on the Pocomoke River he called "Second Generation in America" . I have not researched this area so I have -0- further on John Walston, Jr., and his wife Pierce Manlove, so I do not know who their children were. This couple would be the source for another Walston line as their children would probably be born between 1683-1700 in the area of the Pocomoke River.

Thomas Walston of Somerset Co., MD, died probably in late 1725. His will was recorded on 7 January 1726. The will named all 7 of his children, which were: sons London, Boaz, Joy, William, Thomas Jr., and Henry; and one married daughter Files Rellace.

Note: Thomas and Ruth (London) Walston had a son William and William and Ann (Catlin) Walston also had a son William. Unless one of these William Walston's died young, researchers may have a tough time identifying which records belong to which William Walston as one was born in 1673 and the other about 1680.

A THIRD GENERATION of this Walston line:

Here's information on Thomas and Ruth Walston's son William, as published in a newspaper article many years ago. The author of the article was a Major Carl Ward. Keep in mind, there was no documentation in his newspaper article on this Somerset Co., MD, line of Walstons.

This William Walston (birthdate unknown but c. 1680) married Anne (maiden name unknown - anybody know?). According to the article by Major Carl Ward, they had 5 children. He listed few dates.

1. Boaz IV Walston (have no idea why he is listed as "IV); married Bathsheba Smith. Died 4 Dec 1823. (Note: I am wondering about this, as the years don't add up. If William was born ca 1680 and married c. 1705, his son Boaz would be born c. 1708 -- how could he die in 1823? Major Carl Ward may have his generations of Boaz Walston mixed up. I am posting it here as it gave it and leave it to others to correct the errors.

2. Charles Walston married Nancy Moore. Article has -0- further.

3. Levin Walston married Lovey Moore. Article has -0- further.

4. Obed. Artcile has -0- further

5. a daughter. Article has no name and -0- further.

Major Carl Ward continues: "William Walston's will made 3 Aug 1776, probated 8 Feb 1778. (Note: was this William Walston 100 years old when he made out his will? I'm thinking that Major Ward is off a generation. Can anyone clarify this?

The 1776 will of William Walston disposed of his personal property among his children. He left his wife Anne his real estate. At her death, he gave to his son Boaz IV his dwelling called "Desart". He gave to his sons Charles and Levin lands he called "Winter Harbour" and "London's Advisement". He appointed his son Boaz IV his executor. (No mention in the article about son Obediah. Will needs to be obtained to see if Major Ward left out info in his article.)

Further research among land records is needed to determine who inherited Thomas Walston's land "Desart" after he died in 1725/26. He had 6 sons; it would seem likely that he would leave his original homeplace to his eldest son. Without birth years, I don't know who the eldest son was. Major Ward listed son London Walston first.

Major Ward continues with the line of Boaz IV Walston, which carries us into the 1800s.

Boaz IV Walston married Bathsheba Smith (no date) and had:

1. David Smith Walston; married Polly Moore on 27 Nov 1807. Lived east of Parsonberg, MD.
2. Levin Walston; married Sally Adkins on 7 Oct 1812 near Powellsville, MD, and died in 1819.
3. Martha (Patty) Walston married Levin Haymon north of Parsonberg, MD.
4. Elizabeth S. Walston married Levi Collins on 20 January 1824. Lived near Laurel, DE. She died 16 Dec 1856.

Enuf for now, more later as I come across it in my files.

-- Helen Graves
Walston List Mom
From: Subject: [WALSTON] Levin T. born c. 1795 MD>to Vermillion Co. IL by 1830
Date: Fri, 28 Aug 2009 17:39:16 -0700

I have been working on Levin T. Walston born ca 1795 in MD who was the son of Charles Walston and his wife Nancy (I don't have Nancy's maiden name). Charles was the son of Boaz Walston of Maryland.

As far as I have the family, his son Levin born c. 1795 had 3 sisters but no brothers. If he had a brother or brothers, please post what you have.

Levin's father Charles Walston was a brother of Obediah Walston. Both Obediah and Charles left MD and went to Kentucky. Obediah went to Washington Co., KY, then moved on with his sons to Pickaway Co., OH. Charles Walston stayed in Fleming Co., KY (apparently Charles did not go to Ohio). I don't know when Charles Walston died. My last record for him is the 1820 census in KY. It is likely that he died in Fleming Co., KY 1820-1830.

His son Levin T. Walston (b. ca 1795 MD) was in Vermillion Co., IL, by 1830. He married Susan S. Howard in Vermillion Co. in 1830.

Per his 1830 household, Levin T. Walston was 30-40 years old. (He was about 35.) Living with him in 1830 was:
-- a female 60-70. Who is this? His mother? This is important if it is his mother.
-- a female 15-20. Who is this? I don't have a date for his 1830 marriage. This may or may not be Susan Howard. If it is not a young wife, I have no idea who it is.
-- a male 15-20. I have no idea who this is. UNLESS Levin was married previously in Kentucky and this is a 15 year old son.

According to the 1850 Vermillion Co. ILL census, Levin's wife Susan (Howard) Walston had 4 children between 1833-1840. She is alive on the 1840 census, but not on the 1850 census.

Levin T. Walston had 4 children living with him in 1850 Vermillion Co., IL. They are:

1. Araminta E, born ca 1833 in ILL. She's also living with her father in 1860. I have no further info after 1860.
2. Nancy E. born ca 1833-34 in ILL. Married James H. Lockett on 20 Nov 1860 in Vermillion Co., IL.
3. Benjamin F. born ca 1836. Living with father in 1850. Could not find him after that.
4. Robert L. born c. 1838. Living with father 1850, 1860. I have more info on Robert L. Walston as he became a physician. If you google him, you will get a few hits. Robert L. Walston was married twice:
a. married Sarah J. Smith on 13 Oct 1862 in Vermillion Co., IL. They had a daughter Dora c. 1863 (per 1870 census).
b. married Mrs. Cynthia M. Sumners on Jan 3, 1866. Wife is Cynthia on the 1870 Edgar Co., IL census.
With Cynthia had Lulu in 1867 and Edward Brainard Walston in 1869. May have had more children. I have not looked for him on the 1880 census yet.

Worth noting: Two of Levin T. Walston's sisters married in KY and were neighbors of Levin's in Vermillion Co., IL, in 1830.

Levin's sister Milly Walston married John Richards in 1813. If the year is right, she married in KY. John Richards' household is on the 1830 Vermillion Co., IL census next to Levin Walston.

Levin's sister Mary married Thomas Yapp in 1818. She also married in KY. Thomas Yapp's household is on the 1830 Vermillion Co., IL census next to Levin Walston.

Circumstantial, but I am inclined to think that Charles Walston died in Fleming Co., KY, between 1820-1830. His widow went to Vermillion Co., IL, with their son Levin, as did her two married daughters, their husbands, and children. If I am right, my guess is that Charles Walston's wife died in Vermillion Co., IL, after 1830.

Is anyone researching this Charles Walston (Maryland to Kentucky) line who can fill in the holes? Please post what you have. I will keep trudging on with this Walston line but could sure use some new info. I am hoping that Robert L. Walston's son Edwin B. Walston lived to maturity and had sons to carry on the line.
From: Subject: [WALSTON] Levin Walston's born in MD
Date: Thu, 3 Sep 2009 09:03:43 -0700

As a lot of us have learned, researching Walston lines is not an easy task because so there are so many who were named William, Thomas, John, Henry, and Levin in the early years.

I have been working lately on the Walston families of Somerset and Worcester Co., MD, where the name LEVIN was popular. I hope I have these Levin Walston's pinned down. Here's what I have so far:

Levin Walston born 1748-1754 probably in Somerset Co., MD. He was the son of William Walston and Ann (maiden name believed to be Boston, but has not been proven). This Levin Walston is the brother of Boaz Walston (1747-1823) and Obediah Walston (1755-1828). I believe he was the Levin Walston who married Lovey MOORE before 1789. He is the Levin Walston on the 1800 Little Creek Hundred, Sussex Co., Delaware. He is not on the 1810 census. Lovey Walston is the head of household on the 1810 Little Creek Hundred, DE, census so I believe that this Levin Walston died between 1805-1810. I do not have names for any of their children. DOES SOMEONE HAVE MORE INFORMATION ON THIS FAMILY. Did Lovey Walston die or remarry after the 1810 census? She is not on the 1820 census index. I have not looked at Sussex Co., DE, deeds to see if she sold land after 1810. Perhaps by 1820 she was living with a son who lived elsewhere.

There's a cluster of 5 Walston families living in New Castle Co., DE, on the 1820 census. None of their names are familiar to me -- Joseph, Jeremiah, William, Joshua, and Samuel. I have no idea who they are. Have not done a whit of research on them except for finding them on the 1820 New Castle, DE, census.

Levin Walston born c. 1790 probably in Worcester Co., MD, was the son of Boaz Walston and Bathsheba Smith. He married Sarah "Sally" Adkins on 7 Oct 1812 in Somerset Co., MD. I have nothing further on this Levin Walston as I have not yet looked to see if he served in the War of 1812 . He may have served and may have died between 1815-1820. His father Boaz Walston, Esquire, is on the 1820 Worcester Co., MD, census. The next line is SALLY WALSTON, widow, age 26-45. In her household are 3 children -- a male age 10-16 (a bit old for an 1812 marriage), a male under 5, and a female under 5. Sally Walston, widow, could be the widow of this Levin Walston.

Levin T. Walston born ca 1795 in probably Somerset Co., MD. He was the son of Charles Walston and Nancy (probably MADDUX). In her 1797 will, Margaret Maddux appointed her son in law Charles Walston to be her executor. In 1791, Margaret Maddux sold Charles Walston land. Merril Maddux also sold Charles Walston land. Between 1806 - 1810, Charles Walston left the MD-DE area and went to Fleming Co., KY. He is on the 1810 Fleming Co., KY census and on the 1820 Lewis Co., KY, census. Not found anywhere on the 1830 census so my guess is that Charles Walston died in late 1820s probably in Lewis Co., KY. By 1830, Charles' son Levin T. Walston and two of Levin's married sisters left KY and moved to Vermilliion Co., IL. Levin Walston is on the 1830 Vermillion Co., IL, census. Living with him is a 45+ years female. Could be his widowed mother Nancy. Levin Walston's neighbors in Vermillion Co., IL, are his two brothers in law and his sisters. In 1830 Levin T. Walston married Susan S. Howard in Vermillion Co., IL. He died in Vermillion Co., IL.

Levin Walston born 6 Jan 1794 in Somerset Co., MD, was the son of Obediah Walston and Molly (maiden name unknown). Between 1800-1810, Obediah Walston left MD and moved his wife and children to Fleming Co., KY. It is possible he moved there the same time his brother Charles Walston moved to Fleming Co. He lived in KY briefly, then moved to Pickaway Co., OH, about 1816. His son Levin moved with him. Levin married wife #1 Elizabeth DAVIS in Pickaway Co. or Ross Co., OH on 16 July 1819. They had 6 children. He married wife #2 Julia Ann Miller on 10 July 1839. They had 8 children. Around 1847 Levin, his wife Julia, and children left OH and moved to Jones Co., Iowa. This Levin Walston died in Jones Co., IA, at age 65 on 28 Nov 1859.

I hope those who have concentrated their research on the early Maryland and DE Walston families will carefully review the above compilations of the various Levin Walstons to make sure I have them pinned down correctly.

Thanks,
Helen Graves
Walston List Mo
I have to look for it. It could be an earlier marriage. I will post whatever I have as soon as I can find it. But I have done quite a bit of research on this line. My husband descends from Boaz Walston (1747-1823).

Do you have a source for the marriage of this Charles Walston to Nancy Moore? In my earlier message I laid out quite a bit of evidence that he married Nancy, daughter of Bell and Margaret Maddux - at least he did so by 1797 when Margaret wrote her will and called him her son-in-law. Was Nancy Moore perhaps an earlier - or later - wife?

Helen, I think this Boaz Walston (1747-1823) and Charles Walston (1758 - 1829). They are the sons of William Walstone (1703 - 1778) m. Ann Boston, not the Boaz that died in 1770. This is Thomas's son, William's brother. Also, I have Charles Walston (1758 - 1829) married to Nancy Moore not Maddux.

I would love to find out if Ray's Walston's and the rest of the groups Walston's are related. You can reply to me at rew16505@yahoo.com I look forward to hearing from you.

Did you continue your research and do you have some new information?
Miller Walston or Millard Walston, 1855 Illinois

Looking Miller Walston or Millard Walston. Census 1870 lists Miller Walston born Illinois 1855, son of Charles Walston and Margaret Harper. The only other reference I have found is the Illinois 1876 marriage of Millard Walston and Sarah Bray.
