I am a descendant of Roswell through his son Levi. This family moved many times and eventually to WI and IA. Roswell returned to Canada and died while living with his eldest son Hiram at Rockport. You have Roswell marrying Elizabeth Walt, but all of our records have his wife's given name as Harriet, b.c. 1805 in NY or CT. One daughter who died in IA has Harriet's last name as Raat on the daughter's death certificate. We have wondered if it were Root? Please correspond with me at rwhiting@execpc.com. Thanks.

My info re: Roswell and Elizabeth comes from
the "Record of marriages solemnized by William Smart,
Minister of the Presbyterian congregation, Brockville,
Elizabethtown, Upper Canada. Published by Ontario
Historical Society, 1904.

Harriet was married to my great great grandfaather, Peter
Monforte.

i have the name root for harriet.
but i also don't have alot of info.
i was told that the name ratt is nowhere to be found and that root is everywhere in records. so i believe it is root..
