Linda? are you still here?
I am the daughter of Martin Walt IV. His father MW III was married to Dorothy Mantz/Walt. She did considerable research on the family in the 80s before her death. It is likely you spoke to her.

I have photos but not of many generations back.
What are you interested in? I am trying to grasp where you fit in to the long line...
do you know much about the previous generations?

I have a David Walt. I think his parents were a David Walt and Sarah Steele. I have a Mary Jane Walt who was a sister to my David Walt. Mary Jane married Andrew Cooper McKay. She was 28 in the 1871 Ontario Census and living in Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma, Ontario. She also gave birth to my great grandmother in Arkona in Lambton County Ont. She died in Dafter, the Upper Penninsula of Mich but buried in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada. I'll attach a few Walt pictures that I have. I have a lot of them. Some from the Wisconsin area as well. I think Sheboygan.
If any of these look familiar to people, please let me know as I don't know all the people in them, especially the last one of the lone woman. I think she might be Mary Jane Walt/Mckay but I'm not sure. Others are labeled David Walt Jr. family. The two girls are Nellie and ? Walt, they both died young.

My grandfather was Roy Walt of Tchula, Mississippi. I never knew him; he died before I was born and even before my mother, his daughter, married my father. But his parents apparently were named Martin and Elizabeth. Until your email, I never suspected or heard of a Cox connection. It is my understanding that Martin and Elizabeth were from Memphis, but lived at some time in Jackson, Mississippi. I am interested in more information regarding the Walt ancestry. Incidentally, my grandfather Roy named one of his sons Martin and one of his daughters Elizabeth.

I am the great grand daughter of Martin Walt Sr. and Mary Eugenia Trask. GD of Ruth Marie Gifford Walt who married Guy Weston Risley, D. of Mary Elizabeth Risley. Ruth died in 1924 when my mother was a small child and she was buried in Memphis. Would love to trade what I have with you and vice versa. She had some correspondance with Dorothy Walt, wife of Martin III in 1980. Pictures I would love to see. I have a few of Ruth. The first son born was Guy Jr. and he died, the second was named Martin, then twins Frank and Charles, and then Mary.

My grandfather was a 1st cousin of Elizabeth Cox. That would make me a cousin 2 times removed. I have been tracing descendants of Thomas Cox and Rebecca Webb for a few years and am just getting around to filling in some of the other branches of the family which includes Martin Walt, Jr's family.

The descendants of Martin Walt Jr and Elizabeth Cox would be my cousins.

I have fairly detailed information on most of the Coxes in my family tree but would like to know if there is any information on Elizabeth Cox's father, Thomas Washington Cox and his wife, Martha Isabelle Johnson. Is there a record of his death and where is he buried? I would love to see the photo of Elizabeth.

Here is what I have on Elizabeth's family:

Thomas Washington Cox b. 1833, Nashville, Davidson, Tennessee; d. 1883, , DeSoto, Mississippi.
Thomas m. Martha Isabelle Johnson 5 Nov 1867, Fayette County, Tennessee. Martha (daughter of William Johnson and Sarah Moseley) b. 1845, Mississippi or Tennessee; d. 4 Oct 1899, Kelley, Desoto, Mississippi; bur. Forest Hill Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee.

Children:
2. Carl Cox b. Hernando, Desoto, Mississippi. Died of burns in childhood.
3. Adah B. Cox b. Abt Oct 1868, Hernando, Desoto, Mississippi; d. 27 Jul 1908, Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee; bur. 29 Jul 1908, Forest Hill Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee.
4. Beulah A. Cox b. Abt Apr 1870, Hernando, Desoto, Mississippi; d. 18 Oct 1924, Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee; bur. 19 Oct 1924, Forest Hill Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee.
5. Elizabeth Powell Cox b. 27 Oct 1873, Hernando, Desoto, Mississippi; d. 06 Jun 1950.
6. Clyde Cox b. Abt 1874, Hernando, Desoto, Mississippi; d. Aft 1906.
7. Guy Melvin Cox b. 17 Nov 1877, Hernando, Desoto, Mississippi; d. Aft 1942.
8. Alma Maude Cox b. Aft 1880, Hernando, Desoto, Mississippi.
9. Fred W. Cox b. Aug 1881, Hernando, Desoto, Mississippi; d. 31 Dec 1907, Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee; bur. 31 Dec 1907, Forest Hill Cemetery, Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee.
No, I do not have any other info on either of them. I only saw the marriage certificate on the wall at the Cracker Barrel restaurant that I work at. I thought it might be of interest to somebody out there. It is my understanding that Cracker Barrel will not sell any of the antiques hanging in the store. But to know the specific date and place might help get a copy from the courthouse involved.
