That sounds right, the French-Indian wars were when the captives were taken to Canada where some escaped but many did not. That was a long swampy trip back to New England.

I would love to know her name. I know when our ancestors lived in Connecticut one married the daughter of the Indian chief that was killed. Also one line were captured by Indians and a couple of those sons became Indian chiefs. Also one woman was captured and when they wanted to bring her back she refused and married a Frenchman who died and she later marring back into our lines.

I know that in the Gaines Township Sesquicentennial Book there is a Walworth girl in one of the school group shots (cir. 1900) who looks so native that if she's not I'll eat my socks. I'll see if I can scan a pic and get her name.

Specifically the Wayne Walworth who m. Martha Loder and whose death notice is http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1988&dat=19900326&...

His death certificate lists "Indian" - but I can't find a trace of it in either the Walworth (Roy, Azel III, II, I, etc.) or Castle (Neva, Henry John, etc.) line. (didn't see anyone else's death certs, though).

Does anyone know from where this comes? (I figure the French comes from Loders who lived in Canada.)

Cornelius Walworth 25 Jul 1808 Ovid Seneca New York, died 28 Jun 1858 South Bend Saint Joseph Indiana, He lived in Ovid until the spring of 1828 (about 20 years old) shortly after his marriage, Cornelius went to Michigan and lived in Plymouth, Wayne , Michigan. Where he followed farming until 1831, when he located a farm in Saline, Washtenaw, Michigan. But in 1832, he sold out and came to Lenawee County, Michigan and located on government land on section 23, in Adrian Twp., Lenawee, Michigan. But after a year's residence there he sold out to Willimal Older, in the Spring of 1833 . He then purchased a farm on section 17, in the same township. Resided there until 1835 , when he sold out to John Brazee Sr., and went to Sharon, Washtenaw, Michigan . Purchased a farm on section 27, and resided there until 1840, when he purchased 240 acres of land on section 34 and 35 in Rome, Lenawee, Michigan. He resided there until his death. This land was entirely new when he purchased it, no work ever having been done on it. He cleared 100 acres, erected a good farm house, with good barns, etc. (The house was burned a few years ago because of termites, but the barn was still standing. ) He was an enterprising, hard working man, with a happy faculty of surmounting all difficulties and accomplishing his purpose . He was a good citizen, a much respected and esteemed neighbor and friend, and his sudden and terrible death caused by a railroad accident, at South Bend, Indian a. On the night of June 28, 1850, when the train was precipitated into a swollen stream, by the washing away of a culvert, cast a gloom over the entire neighborhood of his residence.; Cornelius was a good calculator , with a will and courage, such as all pioneers must have to be successful. After his death, Paulina, his wife, continued to run the farm, with the help of her three young sons and daughter. Let me know what you want to know

Ethel Lorene Duncan born 18 Nov 1921 in Franklin County Tennesse. Her families I have but am trying to see if Elmer connects to my Walworth lines as there are quite a few who lived in Michigan that were realated but so far no Elmer

Walworth was borh abt 1893 in Michigan and she married 21 Aug 1909 in Union City, Branch, Michigan. to Grover C. Prough born 13 Jun 1890 in Indiana. He was a minor League Ball player in the Michigan Central league with the Mantitee Celery Pickers and also listed as a Manager in 1923. His parents were Martin T. Prough bor Dec 1846 and married Anne Elizabeth "Eliza" Bushong born June 1852. Rozella G. Walworth's parents were Willard A. Walworth who Married 24 November 1881 in Branch County Michigan to
Emma D. Clay or Hull. So far this is all I can find. I am trying to see if they link into any of my family trees.

Walworth Search as well as other Lines

For anyone needing another website to search there is fsbeta.familysearch.org it posts Census information on this site by just typing in the name you want searched. For me I usually just type the last name as I have so very many Walworth's and have been able to add quite a few as well as add Census information to my genealogy program. I have been able to type in some Walworth's which were from the William Walworth line in fact some of these Walworth's started as Walwark's etc. But ended up marrying into our Walworth line, so now they are added to my trees. I know I now have over 9,000 Walworth's and am busy adding the spoucial lines as I sure hate to have a lop-sided tree.

They had 13 children, 7 sons and 6 Daughters. I don't have John's birth date. Charles, Amanda, John, William, Truelove b. 17 May 1806, Mary May 19 Mar 1808, David, Freelove 1 Jan 1812, Warren, Savina, Edmond 25 Jun 1815, Daniel, Lavina 7 May 1821 all born in New York. For all who I have dates for it seems they were born in Ellisburg, New York. I have only listed the birth dates of those who I do have dates for but haven't found much more on them so far but then I haven't looked in the Mayflower descendants for them so far. But then that could be a wild goose chase also.

The Walworth Book

Well this has been an interesting week. I am able to go to a website and download a PDF file of quite a few books including The Two Walworth books as well as a few families our ancestors married into so looks like I will be busy for a while just downloading a few books. Had a little trouble with the large Walworth book haven't started on the Hyde book as it is 1,241 page where the Walworth book is just over 1,000 pages I am able to do this through our local Library which has a Genealogy setup.

Just checking in as I have been working on the Walworth-Walsworth line of some time and keep trying to add all and then tie them together if possible. Can't seem to find a Wayne Roy Walworth. Is it possible I could get some dates and Places? I do have a lot of family from Michigan as I was born and raised in Lenawee County Michigan. If anyone goes the the Michigan reunion I sure hope they gather as much family history as possible. I have been able to tie in quite a few of the Walworth's but found many weren't related until further down the line at times. For some reason we seem to merge together no matter where we came from.

I have been looking at the Schuyler (Pub. 2005) Book of the Walworth's and he listed for Gilbert Walworth born 1755 Grotn Connecticut and died b4 17 Jul 1816 in Hancock, Delaware,New York. Who married 1773 in Hancock, Delaware, New York
A possible Wife Dorcas Travis born 1757 Hancock, Delaware, New York, with them having 7 Children;
Elizabeth, Jemimy, Sarah born 1801, William married Esther___, Asneth born Jan 1806, Abigail born !4 Mar 1810 and died b4 9 May 1825, and Gilbert born 15 Nov 1812. Does anyone have anymore information on this family??

Quintin Publications Produces a PDF file or a Paper Copy anytime you request one. I have placed all of the book plus a whole lot more onto my Genealogy program to the tone of 300,000 plus with over 9,000 Walworth/Walsworth's There was someone on this site that was offering the book but not sure if it still is avaliable. The book doesn't hold up too well with use. You may just be able to go to a local Genealogy library and possibly check it out or work on it at the libarary. I live in the Houston Area and the Clayton Library carries a copy.

My Grandfather told me that the he had an aunt and uncle who cared for an orphan. When the man came of age, he asked permission to change his last name to Walworth as a tribute to the family. The cousins who were raised with the orphan became convinced that he was trying to claim a part of their inheritance and threatened to sue. The orphan changed his name to Walsworth and never made any claims against the Walworth estate. I believe the orphan was Peter Walsworth. My Father and Grandfather have passed but my Mother still has a copy of the Walworth book(written by my cousin Reginald). The book is out of print. There is a copy of it in the Library of Congress(USA). You may be able to find excerpts of it on their web-site. If you have specific questions, I will ask my Mother to consult the book. She will not let the book out of her sight.

They had 1 known son who was James D. Walworth b: c1936/7.
James married an Alice Weatherwax unkn dob.
I am interested in any information on Alice's parents, place of birth etc. I am currently editing the Weatherwax family genealogy for publication. This will cover 10 generations of the family in North America from the family arrival in 1710 to New York Colony until the close of 1930 (last available census. I can probably provide Alice's ancestral tree if I have some info on her.

The only reason I don't agree on this family is that most of the information came by letters to the compiler of our genealogy. There were so many different spellings of the Walworth name also. There are a few marriages to the Walrath's also. There is always a possiblility of it being true but who will ever know? They would ALL be the same people and have different spellings. Not so sure about Peter, don't have very many Peter's in our line. I sure wish you all the good fortune in solving this and many other questions. Some of the information he collected was from records but no one seems to know where they came from or how. There are a few Reuben's I keep finding people born to two or three parents so we just have to keep trying to find out I guess the only way we will be able to do it in this life is DNA, but I am not going there.

I have already corresponded with Paul regarding a Reuben C. Walworth and Peter Walworth, who I believe were brothers and the sons of William P. Walrath and Lydia Dey. Paul does not agree. The surname Walrath has over 35 different spelling variations, among them Walworth. I only found Reuben listed with his father and step-mother in the 1850 Census, but found no later reference to him as a Walrath until I found a Letter of Administration filed in Montgomery County, NY. In this document I found besides a Reuben C. Walrath of Michigan, a brother Peter Walrath of Minnesota, and sister Mary Watson of Michigan. All three unknown to me and any previous search of documents. Only one other Walworth researcher (Ancestry World Tree) lists Reuben C. and Peter Walworth as sons of James and Charlotte Graves Walworth (Ref: Reginald Walworths genealogy). I have not seen this genealogy so do not know what it contains. Is there firm evidence that Reuben C. and Peter were sons of a James Walworth and Charlotte Graves? The sister of my Reuben C. and Peter, Mary has been shown in a couple of online trees as a Walworth, and a Walrath. Any help would be appreciated in determining whether Reuben C. Walworth of Michigan and Peter Walworth of Winona, Minn are not Reuben C. Walrath of Minnesota and Reuben C. Walrath of Michigan. Both Reuben's dates are consistent. Peter's birthdate is around the time of William P. Walrath and Lydia Dey's marriage.

I have George as being born in New York and buried in Spring Prairie in 1864. His parents were Jesse Walworth and Hannah Daggett. Acording to a brief biography I was given by a family member George moved to Wisconsin withhis family several other families and his younger brother Jesse. Jesse returned to New York but the rest stayed. No mention of James. But it seems that at least thier mother also moved to Wisconsin because she died in Ripon. Most of my info was supplied by relative of my mothers who did a family tree in the 40's. I don't know how accurate it is and I am trying to verify what I can. My mother who is 90 was talking about some faction of the family that went to canada generations ago but I don't know who and she probably won't remember.

Hi, my ancestor was James, and George was his brother. Have you come across any info on James? I have two bits of info indicating James died in spring 1840 in Canada, and died in 1840 Spring Prairie, WI. His wife Charlotte is also shown as having died in 1840 in Canada. Have not so far been able to find out anything else for sure on their DODs.

Just came across your posting. That James is the grandfather of the James I am almost certain was my ggg-grandfather who married Charlotte Graves, moved to Canada after they were married in Rome in 1811. My ancestor Edmund Walsworth, their son (I'm pretty sure), was born in Villa Nova, 1817. The "Walworth/Walsworth Genealogy" has all that information if you haven't read that yet. I got my copy from Quinton Publishing. I don't know if they still have it or not.

I just started working on this Walsworth branch.

Henry was born in New York (same date). His family was living in Cortland County, NY. They moved to Manitowaoc County, Wisconsin by 1860. Henry's wife's name was Jessie.
Their daughter, Vena married Bert Baker. I found four children on the 1930 census: Stanley, Doris, Lucille, and Bert w..

I found Louise Walsworth on the 1930 census living in Washington D.C.

In my family history (compiled by a relative in the 1940's) I have a James Walworth b. 1734 in Groton Conn. D. Rome NY in 1795. This James was married to Eunice Packer in NY, fathered a Jesse who fathered George in 1793.

Paul, thanks anyway for your response. I was hoping the person who posted it would respond so I could contact them to find out where they got the info. There is census information that his two brothers and his mother were all in Wisconsin, and that is why I thought the posting had some merit, but so far, I have had no luck in finding anything that would show James and Charlotte as having lived in the area. There is info on a James Walworth in the 1880s, but nothing else. I have, however, been able to almost certainly link my ancestor, Edmund Walsworth, with James and Charlotte from the Walworth/Walsworth Genealogy. I have been in contact with someone in Ontario, Canada, who has a lot of information, and she is slowly but surely sharing it with me. Thanks again.

The only information I have been able to find is from the Reginald Walworth Book. The other date is off the internet with no source except the person who placed it there. There are many dates that are off by one year. Let me know if you do find anymore sources

I have been trying for some time to verify the date and place of death for James Walsworth, born in New York, and moved to Canada with wife, Charlotte. Their son, Edmund, was born in Villa Nova, Ontario, Canada in 1871. He married Ellen Lewis in Kingston, Ontario, in 1843. The family moved to St. Johns, Clinton, MI, USAin approx. 1860. I have found two conflicting dates of Spring 1840 in Canada, and 1840 in Spring Prairie, WI, USA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
