Elisabeth's brother Heinrich was my great-great grandfather. He lived in NYC and was a "segar-maker." I believe he served in the Civil War. I have a copy of a document indicating that either he, or his father, was a witness to a baptism at the German Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul's Church in Manhattan in 1857. The church is still in existence and may contain other info regarding our family.

Wondering if anyone had any info on the marraige between Elijah B SAYERS and Harriet WANNAMAKER in 1867, probably May. I am unsure the location of this marraige, possibly Manitoba or Ontario. The 1900 census says they were married 33 years and had come to the US in 1879. I'm curious as to why their 1st born was 20 yrs after their marraige....I think I missed something!
Thanks for any help!
Angi

SC Wannamakers and Connection with Bozard/Thompson/Crafts in Orangeburg Co.

Looking for information on the relationship between my great-grandmother, Julia Elizabeth Craft b. 1880-81 in Charleston, SC and Sallie B. Thompson, w/o Lewis Thompson.

A Sallie Bozard (14) is listed on the 1870 census for New Hope Township, Orangeburg, SC in the household of P? E? B? Bozard (40) and Elizabeth Bozard (30) with brother Moses (16) and sister Julia (8). It is doubtful Elizabeth was the birth mother of Moses or Sallie.

Next door on the same census are my Julia's parents, Joseph and Angeline Craft.

On 1900 census for Charleston, SC, my Julia is listed as a"cousin" living in the household of ______ (Lewis Sr.?) Thompson and Sallie B. Thompson with their son, Lewis Thompson.

I am trying to determine the familial relationship between Angeline Craft and Elizabeth Bozard. I suspect they were sisters, Wannamakers by birth, but have not proven their parents, but strongly suspect they were Whitfield W. and Adella Keitt Wannamaker. Elizabeth's nickname may been "Mag" or "Meg". Angeline had another sister named Mary Ann who married Phillip Gerlach/Gerlack, a German immigrant. Mary Ann and Phillip are buried at Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery near Bowman, SC. They had no children.

Family legend is that Angeline's sister Mag's second husband was Billy Bozard, and they purportedly had no children together, but that Mag's daughter Sallie married Lewis Thompson. They lived near Bowman, Orangeburg Co., SC around 1900. Some things don't match, but I believe this is the same Sallie B. Thompson on the 1900 census in Charleston.

Julia Craft married James Felder Moseley about 1904. They lived on Main Street in the Town of Bowman and are buried in Bowman Cemetery. Julia died in 1951.

Thanks,

Lynda Moseley
Barnwell, SC

Do you have the parents names and birth place for Friedrich? my Wannemacher line comes from Erzhausen -- I also received another inquiry re: same man with Christened name of "Johann Friedrich" married to same woman ... Almost all of the males in my line had the Christened name of "Johann" in fron toof their given names -- I have some "Johannes" that were born May 23, 1771, another born July 12, 1772 son of Joh. Jacob Wannemacher and Anna Dorothea (Muller) from Erzhausen (small village near Darmstadt)

My Dad, Joe Wannamaker told me that his grandparents emigrated w/12 boys & a little girl named Mary. I wish I knew more; I don't even know the name of my paternal grandfather. I believe the family lived in St. Louis & the Catholic Church had the Wannamaker name in the stained glass windows, & pews with the family name as well. The priest had the German Wannemacher names changed to look 'American' by changing the name to Wannamaker. In Germany, my Dad said his family was from Leipzig & Cologne (Kohn). My Dad was born in 1918. Could his Aunt be the Mary Wannamaker you are looking for?

Angeline Wannamaker born 1846 in SC, unknown parents born in SC also, per 1880 SC Census, Orangeburg County.

Husband Joseph Craft may have been considerably older, and it's very likely Angeline was his second wife. They had at least one child together, Julia Elizabeth Craft, b. 1880 in Charleston, SC. (My great-grandmother), but family lore says there were 16 children total, 9 of whom died in infancy. Two of Angeline's possible siblings were 1) Mary Ann (Johnson?), who married German-born Phillip Gerlach after Civil War in Bowman or Orangeburg, SC and 2) Mag or Magaret, lived Bowman, SC.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hi,
Good to hear from you!
Yes, there sure is a link, your gr gr Aunt's husband John was a son of Jacob (One Arm Jake) Wannamaker and Mary Mariah Wanamaker (they were 2nd cousins, once removed). Margaret Winters was one of many siblings, although the info I have doesn't show any of her brothers or sisters as having children, this obviously ain't so!
Would love to hear from you again as to whether you have more info on your gr gr Uncle John Wannamaker, and I can pass on what else I know, I guess this makes us distant cousins of some sort.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Ron Wannamaker

(feel free to email me <ronw@adanac.co.nz> )

Did your family come to Canada from Europe via America, or from Europe direct?

Arlan...thanks for responding to my message. It is hard to know if there is any connection. However, I can tell you what I know about my Nellie Hart. I know her parents were both born in Ohio. I don't know where exactly. Nellie was born in 1856. I know her parents names were Alice (maiden name Hopkins) and the father was John Hart. He was said to be a Cherokee Indian. He definitley looks like he is of Native American decent, or possibly spanish. Also, he may have been in the Civil War, as it appears he is wearing an uniform in the picture, which is dated aprox. 1859. She had a sister two years younger, Rose (Rosa) Bell Hart. I have more information on Rose then anyone else. She is my great grandmother. Let me know if any of this information sounds like there may be a connection. Also, and this is questionable.....my Gr. Grandmother Rose told my Mom that she had a younger brother named Clarence. He played music on riverboats in Oregon, Washington. He died young of tuberculosis. Also, that he may have been born in Columbus, Ohio. My mom wrote this down on the back of a picture of Rose. My mom was ten when Rose died, but my mom was pretty good with remembering things from her childhood. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Lisa
