looking for information about my great grandmother Hattie Warden, she was adopted by a warden family in Virginia in 1883. Hattie's biological last name might have been Eakins . She married Joseph Elmer Hammons in 1907 in Greer county oklahoms. They had two sons Ernest Ellis Hammons and Dennis Hammons. Hattie and Joseph divorced around 1930. She remarried and had a child or two by her new husband. Hattie was living in Walters Oklahoma at the time of her death in 1938

Nimrod Warden, Hardy County, WV or VA? documents online

James Madison University has digitized the 1806 business ledger of Nimrod Warden, plus some bills of sale (early 1800s.)

There are many other names mentioned -- folks with whom he was doing business.

Here's the link:
https://mdid.cit.jmu.edu/explore/explore/?kw=&c=allcolle...

It's best to save the jpegs and then open them in an image viewer, rather than opening them in your browser.

You can also see the ledger as a slide presentation here:

https://mdid.cit.jmu.edu/viewers/presentationviewer/11274/?n...

Also included in the collection is the estate appraisal of Samuel Harnsberger. I don't know the family tree, but I think that a Warden married a Harnsberger...

I'm not related. Just thought I'd share...

Re: Jerusha Warden marriage to Abraham Bledsoe, Van Buren County, Missouri, USA 1840s

Hello Cousin,

If you look on Ancestry.com you will find a picture of Lucinda Laura Dye wife Of John B. Bledsoe. They died in Avoca/Asher, Pottawottomie, Oklahoma. She may or may not have been part Native American. John's Granddaughter Lillie Mae Bledsoe said that her father, Andrew Lafayette Bledsoe had snapping black eyes and was part native american, probably Cherokee. The family admits to being part Cherokee. John's father was Abraham Bledsoe (I have a newspaper clipping). Abraham was the son of Isaac the son of Loving, a Revolutionary War Vet, the son of Thomas, the son of Abraham, the son of George II, the son of George I, the probable son of Lewis.

John B.'s mother was Elizabeth "Betsy" Jerusha Warden/Worden. Jerusha is an Old Testament name. Her parents were William Worden and Jerusha Savage. Take note of the name SAVAGE. This family line will take you back to Ensign Thomas Savage who arrived in Jamestown, Virginia January 1607 on the first supply ship to the colony. The Savage family will take you back to the Plantagents and then back to Adam and Eve 10 different ways.

Contact me if I can be of further help to you. Thuringweithil@yahoo.com

OH my gosh! My son would be so interested in this. He has his Great Aunt Marion's journal. She and Blanche were sisters who lived out by Lake Minnetonka. My son is the last of this line of Wardens. There were (I think) 7 Warden children from David Charles Warden and only one, Lee Warden had children and his son, David Sand Warden had one son, my son also, David Wolfe Warden, who now lives in Austin, Texas and we have been working little by little on his genealogy.
Thank You so much for posting and I am excited about reading your blog!
Diana Wolfe

I have a journal that I recently came across at my job at Half Price Books written by Blanche Warden of 2112 Humboldt Ave S, Minneapolis MN from 1910. After doing some investigating, I came across this listing. I was going to donate it to the MN Historical Society, but I'd like to give it to the family. I just wrote about the journal and what I uncovered on my blog: http://elisabethpreble.blogspot.com.

From what I can tell, James Warden (11 May 1799-05 Mar 1842) moved from Virginia to Kentucky and married Rebecca Kelly (b. Abt 1800) there. They settled in Allen County and had at least seven children, one of which is my 3rd great grandfather Nathan Elisha. Nathan migrated to Illinois with his wife Mary Ann Parrish. From there the line of descent to me jumps from Illinois to Wisconsin, then curiously through Colorado, Virginia and New Jersey in relatively quick succession before finally settling in California.

In response to "Warden's from Scotland." I base my family's origination information from Three separate biography's about my 3rd great grandfather, Philip Warden (1763-1843).

Two sources were from family members written about 1880.The third source is from a book by J. H. Spencer in 1886, concerning early Kentucky Baptist preachers. All sources listed Philip as Scott-Irish. I have always suspected there was a single source because the time frames are so close together. Of course the term Scott-Irish is an American (Colonial origination) term.

Unfortunately I cannot find a confirmed link of Philip to Ireland, much less Scotland. Maybe the WEB site you suggested will give me some new information that I badly need. I will appreciate any additional help you may suggest. Thanks

"The Warden Family" by Clifford Warden and Victor Warden can be found online at:

https://dcms.lds.org/view/action/ieViewer.do?from_proxy=true...

Please be aware that the aforementioned Warden family traces its lineage back to colonial Maryland, and then from there to Scotland. Another message thread in this forum (http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.warden/373/mb.ashx) revealed that there is another Warden family that traces its lineage back to Northern Ireland. Both families have members that lived in Kentucky, and I think also in Missouri; no one seems to be aware of any connection between the two.

Buel, there appears to be some confusion here. Your Warden lineage traces back to Northern Ireland; my Warden lineage - and maybe the Warden lineage of everyone else participating in this thread - traces back to Scotland. It just so happens that various members of both families lived in Kentucky.

You can learn more about my Warden lineage in "The Warden Family" book, which can be read online at:

https://dcms.lds.org/view/action/ieViewer.do?from_proxy=true...

John thank you for your response. I continue to look for a sibling or parent for my third great grandfather, Philip Warden, born abt. 1763 in N. Ireland. He is the Patriarch of my family from Kentucky. I have many Kentucky Warden's documentated from 1787 through 1900. If you have other Warden's from Kentucky you need help with send me a message.

Buel

Buel, you're referring to John W. Warden, son of Asa Warden and Eliza Dearing. John was related to James William/Willis Warden in two ways: 1st cousin through their common grandparents Elisha Warden and Frances "Fanny" Dearing, and 2nd cousin through their common great grandparents Jeremiah Dearing and Elizabeth Willis.

John married Julia A. Garrett (Abt 1848-1919) on 05 Apr 1866. Their children were John Steve (1870-1953), Charles Tedrow (22 Apr 1874-11 Dec 1932), Earnest/Ernest (b. 1874/1878), William A. (1878-1963) and George (b. after 1878).

Thanks to everyone here that shared data! James William/Willis Warden (pointed out as husband of Nancy Jane/Jo Forth and father of Willis Arthur Warden), is a grandson of my 5th great grandparents Elisha Warden and Frances "Fanny" Dearing. I was only aware of James' existence until I came across this thread; I just finished adding the data that you shared here.

FYI, my maternal grandfather, John Murdoch Warden, gave to me a two-volume genealogy collection entitled "The Warden Family", self-published by Clifford E. Warden and Victor F. Warden (both of which are 4th cousins twice removed to me, and 1st cousins thrice removed to the aforementioned James) in 1972. Volume 1 is 20 pages long plus a map and a fold-out genealogy chart; volume 2 is 42 pages, and also mentions the Dearing, Bussa, Pace and Anderson families. I hope to eventually find time to scan the volumes and chart, and make them available to all interested parties.

I have a relative named Elisha and Fanny Dearing Warden. They have 11 children that I have found so far named: Asa, James, John, William, Elijah, Elizabeth, Cynthia Ann, Mary, Ann, Jeremiah and Francis Ann. The son named Elijah is married to Catherine Stephens, but I have found no children for them yet, as I have not gone down that line. I show born 1807 in VA and died April 1880.

I hope that this is the family line that you are looking for.

You can contact me at jovic@centurytel.net if you wish.
Vicki Trokey

Dear Charles,

I am also researching Wardens. The Elisha Warden in my line was born in 1759 in Prince William Co., VA. He died in 1831 in Allen Co., KY. He was married to Frances Dearing.

Does this match with your Elisha? If so, please contact me and I will direct you to a site with more information.
Re: Too many coincidences: 2 John Wardens, both married to women named Nelly, one of Stewart County, one of Hawkins County, Tennessee, USA born within 7yrs of each other

You and I have to be connected somehow. My John Warden's father was Samuel Warden born 17 Mar 1760. He was a Revolutionary War Veteran as proved by Court of Ordinary, Adjourners Term, 8th July 1883, Madison Co., GA. Records state that Samuel had a son named John and his date and place of birth are conclusive that this John is the son and not the brother of Samuel. In my paperwork, I have Samuel Warden's father to be John Warden, circa 1730-1775, North Ireland. My John Warden (Samuel's son) had ten children and purchased land in Stewart Co in 1808. You can start emailing me now if you want: dspursleytn@yahoo.com. Thanks.
