His grandson Worth Lynn Wardlaw was my grandfather. He would take my brother and I to Methodist church on Sundays when we stayed for the summer. He would also read us the bible until the wee hours of the morning. He also had a garden. We would take vegetables from the garden and bring to the nursing home where his sister (my Aunt Nell) was staying. In fact he passed away in front of me while he was showing me how to run the tiller in the garden. If you need some additional history from my granddad to my current generation; I can give you some information.

Hi Dianne, I descend from the Wardlaw family after it arrived in Greene Co. AL. Lydia Wardlaw married Theophilus Murphy and one of their daughters, Carolyn, is my maternal ggm. She and T. Murphy disappear from the face of the earth when Carolyn and sister were quite young. Carolyn is at the home of her aunt Margaret Only Wardlaw Stephens in one of the census - abt. 1840 or -50. Don't have it in front of me at the moment. Carolyn marries Wm. Franklin Henderson who died 1866 from illness contracted in the war. Have lots of documents from Greene Co. but the disappearance of Lydia and T. Murphy has tormented me for years!

Looking for the "real" parents for David Moore Wardlaw (1815-1887). Seems every tree has Hugh Wardlaw (-1803/4). That can't be... I know Hugh Wardlaw has a great Revolution War record, but Hugh would have been dead 11 years before David was born.

Any other leads would be much appreciated.

My g-grandfather was James Francis Wardlaw, from Galway, Ireland. His brother is supposed to be Rev. William Wardlaw, an Episcopal minister in NYC, New Jersey, Staten Island...

James was born in Ireland, around 1836. He immigrated in 1860 and fought for the U.S. Regular Army. He died in California in 1916.

I would be interested to know if anyone has any Irish connections, especially in the north of Ireland.

Thanks!

Glad you're interested. I'm sending some stuff from my files. Also, you can access my tree "Wardlaws'' on Ancestry.com. Do you have a Wardlaw connection?
See below:
!Minutes of Methodist Episcopal Church South, North Georgia Conference,
1890 pg 31. "William J. Wardlaw: He was born in the early part of the year
1818. He was converted in the fall of 1835 and joined the church. Married,
first to Miss Mary Poor, in 1836, and again to Mrs. Margaret Geiger in
1872. He died the present year. The following is his conference history.
He bacame a member of the Confe- rence about 1851, and served Van Wert
(Marietta) mission in 1852; Dallas (Marietta) in 1853; Carrollton in 1854;
Lawrenceville (Dahlonaga) in 1855; located and reentered the conference in
1857; Columbus and Factory Mission in 1858; Haralson Mission in 1859;
Columbus Factory Mission 1860-61; Columbus Colored Charge 1862-3-4;
Whitesville 1865-6; Atlanta Circuit and Colored charge 1867-8-9-70; Fulton
1871; Conyers 1872-3; Putnam 1874; afterward superannuated until his
death. Such are the bare outlines of a life which it is no extravagance of
languae to call heroic. Disabled in the body by the loss of a leg, serving
circuits and missions, which in the ordinary conception were among the
humblest, he did his best to serve the church and his generation by the
will of God. His death was sudden. The summons was sharp. The end was
peace. He had wished it so. In a moment his faithful spirit swept through
the gates into the city of God."

! "Methodist Preachers in Georgia, 1783-1900." He was a Methodist minister (in a family that has been Presbyterian since the Reformation). He had numerous children, including my great grandfather, Jonathan B. Wardlaw. I can tell you more about him if you're interested. cheers, Jack D. Wardlaw.

Rebecca Williams moved with her son Elijah, dtr. in law Nannie & grandson to Bassano, Alberta, Canada in 1912. In 1913 they moved to their homestead northeast of there. In 1924 they moved to the Didsbury area. Their granddaughter who is now deceased wrote up a history mentioning where Lige & Nannie are buried but did not state where Rebecca was buried or when she died.
They lived in Batie Twp., Benton Co., Ark. before moving to Alberta (1910 Census). In Pace Cemetery in Benton County there are markers for a William Williams & an Elizabeth Williams. Neither one has any dates.
Lige was a 3rd cousin to my great grandfather. I will keep looking to try to find an Alberta burial record for Rebecca.

Leslie, my mother's paternal grandmother was Caroline Murphy, dau. of Lydia Wardlaw and Theophilus Murphy. Lydia and her father, William C. lived in Greene Co. AL.where he died in 1840, will probated there. Caroline had a sister named Elizabeth and both girls were in their Aunt Margaret Wardlaw Stephens' home in the 1850 census. Their father, mother and baby brother's whereabouts continue to be a mystery. I have some ideas but nothing concrete. Wm. C. was born, I think, in Augusta Co., VA. I'm certainly willing to share any information that I might have to help. I'm going to send this to "Diane" as well. Thanks.

Hello , I have a connection to your Wardlaw family. My Great Grandmother is one of William M.Wardlaw and Catherine (Baldridge) Wardlaws Daughters. Her name is Rebecca Wardlaw. She is in the old Joseph Wardlaw book. Rebecca Wardlaw married William Humphery Williams,in
AR. Their Daughter is my Grandmother Eunice Williams, She married Wesley Burcham. They all lived in AR. Until about 1912 or so and then my grandparents imigrated to Alberta, Canada. Lots of my connected family moved there. Then they came back to the State of Idaho. Several other families of the Wardlaws also moved to that part of the States .

I have some pictures you might be interested in having.

Send me a note and let me know. Thank you.

Re: As for the Wardlaws in Arkansas

My friend Clyde Harden spent forty-five years of his life researching his family and his wife's family. Much of his information came from researching County Deed records, County Marriage records, to name a few places.

He traced the American Wardlaws back to Robert Wardlaw who with two sons came from Scotland to America in the early 1700's. Clyde thought they originally settled in another state, possibly PA, but I don't think he verified that. His first authentic record was in Virginia. They purchased farm(s). Later the sons moved to other states. Clyde's Wardlaw family moved to South Carolina. Other members of the Wardlaw family also moved there in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Two (William and Hugh) fought in the American Revolution. (In case you are interested in the DAR and SAR.)

There is a lot of information on some of the Wardlaws in South Carolina. You might do some searching in www.Google.com for Wardlaws in South Carolina. Robert H.J. and Artemesa moved their family to Arkansas.

Perhaps this will provide you some missing data.

Diane Wardlaw has authored some books on the Wardlaws. Information relative to her books is listed in Google. You might be interested in information in Google about the Clan Wardlaw Association. Membership is available to all Wardlaws families.

Good luck in your search/

Wardlaws from Ireland...

My Wardlaws, James and William (brothers) come from Ireland, but I haven't been able to find any link there. Have you had any luck with yours?

Thanks,

Dana

Hi Sharon!

Most info I have on Wardlows was shared from Scott Wardlow but he did not have the names of Tennie's siblings or how many. I'm not too far into this side of the family yet. I went through my Mother's side first. Do you have info on Tennie's siblings or on Wilburn's father Benjamin A. born in Georgia? Any info on Georgia? email me and I will gladly share what I have as I find information. Thanks for responding!
