Well I now have Hannah Fryers birth cert which confirms that she was born on the 5 Nov 1879 and that her mother was Sophia Gibbs. I also have Hannah's marriage cert which didn't give me much information at all other than her father was a miner named Thomas and that they lived in Ogley Hay.
Hope this information will benefit anyone else looking into the Wardle/Fryer history of Ogley Hay.
Kind Regards
Vicky

Hi Vicky. Your John is a hard man to find. I could not find a definite record of him before 1901 apart from his marriage to Hannah in Lichfield in December Q, 1898. I did find a death in Mansfield in 1969 with birth date of 9th Jan 1879.
If you have their marriage certificate, it should give John's father's name which might help in finding him prior to 1901.

Hi Wardle relations.
I am looking for information on John Wardle (born Salop, Oakengates 9 Jan 1879) and who married my great grandmother Hannah Fryer (born Ogley Hay, Staffordshire 1879). John was a coal Hewer but I do not know what mine he worked at. After their marriage in 1898 they lived in Ogley Hay but at the 1911 census they can be found living in Mansfield Nottinghamshire. They must have then moved back to Staffordshire as I believe Hannah died in 1959 in Lichfield and John 10 years later in 1969 although I do not know where he was living at the time. They had a number of children
James W - 1899
Thomas Edward -1900
John - 1901 to 1989
Lilian - 1903 to 1968
Charles Henry - 1906
Mary Emily - 1908 to 1956
Violet - 1911
Florence A - 1912
Richard W - 1915 to 1915
Phyllis Louisa - 1916 (my grandmother)

Any information on this family would be vey gratefully recieved. Or if anyone else is researching this family I can provide photos of John and Hannah.

Thanks for reading
Vicky

I do not presently have a Junius Wardle in my data base but my great-great grandfather settled for awhile where he had two children when his wife, Susan Hymas, died. He then married Rebecca Daniels Brown and moved to Nevada where my grandfather was born. I have not pursued his first two children but I suspect that Junius may be descended from them. I would appreciate recieving a copy of the obituary to glean what I can from it and possibly be able to pursue that line.

Myrl

I am trying to go back into my father's family and it turns out that before he met my mum he had 2 sons, possibly during or just after ww2. I believe my father was born in either Whittington or Tamworth in 1923, his name was George.
Does anyone have any information? I would be grateful as these guys would be my 1/2 brothers and it would be nice to meet them.

Elizabeth Wardle Peters / Carr

I have two distant relatives with the middle name 'Wardle', they are Elizabeth Wardle Carr and her aunt Elizabeth Wardle Peters both from Southport. I have traced each branch of the family back with the exception of the Peters (I can't find information about Ralph Peters who died in a lifeboat disaster in 1886 prior to 1861) and I cannot find any record of 'Wardle'.

Can anybody shed some light on this, please?

Many thanks!

I am still trying to throw light on my ancestors the Daubeneys.
Robert Tait Daubeney's daughter Winifred Mary Daubeney born 1896 married Edward Wilson Wardle.
They married at Newcastle Upon Tyne register office on 10th June 1919. Edward age 23 is a Grocer's assistant and his father James (deceased) a Book repairer. Winifred is also 23. The witnesses are Winifred's father Robert Tait Daubeney, Mary Wilson Wardle (Edward's sister?) and Thompson James.
Robert Tait Daubeney had a son with the same name and 3 other daughters Gertrude, Eveline and Yvonne.
Any family stories or information about the Daubeneys??? I can not find a birth certificate for Robert and his military records are inconsistent when he names his father.
Thomas WARDLE, born Heddon, Northumberland, circa 1803

I am interested in contacting anyone descended from, or researching, the name of Thomas WARDLE, born about 1803 in Heddon, Northumberland. He married Ellen (surname unknwown) who was born at Elsdon, Northumberland, about 1797. By 1861 Thomas Wardle was a coal minier, living in Wrekenton, Gateshead, Durham. I know of the following children born to this couple: Ellen WARDLE, born ca. 1835, Gosforth or East Brunton, Northumberland; Thomas Wardle, born ca. 1837 in Durham; Elizabeth Wardle, born ca. 1840 in Gateshead, Durham. There may be other children as well - possibly an Isabella Wardle. In the 1861 census (RG9/3806/33/31) a number of grandchildren are also listed. I believe these to be (though unsure if this is correct) the illegitimate children of Ellen Wardle (born ca. 1835 above)- these children are: Ann Wardle, born ca 1851 in Gateshead; Isabella Wardle, born ca. 1855 in Gateshead, Robert Wardle, born ca. 1857 in Gateshead. Another child, Elizabeth Wardle, born ca. 1864 in Wreckenton, Gateshead turns up in the 1891 census (RG12/4112/111/51) married to a John Blenkinsop. The Ellen Wardle who is the mother of these children did not marry until March 1866 to a William Potts, coal miner, in Gateshead. Ellen Wardle then went on to have a number of children by William Potts. My wife is descended from William and Ellen Potts/Wardle, through their daughter, Jane Potts (born December 6, 1868, New Seaham, Durham) who married William Birkbeck Purvis in August 1889, in New Seaham, Durham. Jane Potts and William Purvis are my wife's her great grandparents, William Potts and Ellen Potts/Wardle are my wife/s 2 x great grandparents (thus Thomas and Ellen Wardle are her 3 x great grandparents). The children of William Birkbeck Purvis and Jane Potts ended up in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, as well as Jane and William Purvis themselves in later life (between November 1919 and July 1920 is when they all left England for Canada). I look forward to contact with anyone who can throw light upon Thomas Wardle and his wife, Ellen, their other children apart from Ellen (born ca. 1835, Northumberland) and their siblings/ancestry.

Cheers

Bryan

My maternal grandfather is Archibald Kandahar Wardle - not your average name. His parents were Robert George Wardle & Barbara Knowles (c1860 births). My grandfather's siblings, William (1881) & Robert (1886) were alledged to have emigrated to USA possibly Canada post World War 2. I actually have potential evidence that Robert may have died in that War but I do not have the verification thereof. Has anyone heard of any of these names? I have the 1901 census in Uk showing Robert was still home in Chester-le-Street, County Durham, North East England but William had already left home. My grandgather was the youngest child by some 20 years. Any assistance would be oh so helpful.

Hi Marie

Apologies for the long delay!

Unfortunately they aren't the same Wardle Family. My Thomas Wardle was married to Ann Elizabeth Clark. I have traced his ancestry back a little further now and they came from a place called Ipstones in Staffordshire (throughout the 1700s), they also lived at Kingsley and Whiston Bridge so all in the Staffs Moorlands area.

If you find you have any family connected to these places in your research please do get back in touch as we'll probably be able to make a connection!

Best wishes

Matt

Re: Another early William de Wer

Hello Douglas,

Re your question "1335 William de Werdale provided war ships for Edward III, they were based in 'Lyverpole'." Was he not master of ship called 'Le Flundre'?

He probably made his ships from the timber of Weardale Forrest, AKA: 'Forrest of Wardell' in County Durham. In 1363 Thomas Bishop of Durham refers to one 'William de Werdale' as having once held the office of 'Forrester' in his forrest of Weardale. Of course we can not know for certain unless we find more old records. This is just a guess
