Kim:
Just looked at the replies to your original inquiry. Rich Warfield Faber passed away in Oct 2010. However, during , S HCHS trip to Warfield homes on May 1, 2010 I met Rich who I had been corresponding with for several years. I handed him copies of the Lloyd Warfield Bible & Testiment pages and other sourced documents on the front porch of the former Gov Warfield's house at Oakdale. We discussed them later and I believe he included the updated information into his final draft before providing it to the HCHS archives.
By adding Allen & Mary's (6) children to recorded history we were able to provide the link for roughly 340 (at last count) descendants who previously had none.
My tree is named after Allen's son Lloyd Dorsey Warfield (1818-1889) and his wife Margaret Ann Howard.
I'm very interested to know how you connect since I think your farm is located on what was part of the Brothers Partnership tract formerly owned by Vachel Warfield, Philemon Dorsey, Brice & John Worthington Warfield (The twin Brothers who it is named after), Thomasine Worthington (mother of the twins), her father Thomas Howard Worthington and his father Cpt. Henry Ridgely II.
Ref: Settlers of Maryland 1679-1783 pg 742 & pg 695.
Robert

KIM:
Hello from the Lloyd Dorsey Warfield family tree.
First to answer your old question, though you amy already have found it.
Joshua Dorsey Warfield (21 Jun 1822 - 3 Sep 1899) was the son of Allen Warfield (of Vachel) and Mary Polly Dugan
He did marry Delilah H. Duvall (1824-1860) and is buried in the Damascus Methodist cemetery. Joshua was my 2nd great-grand Uncle.
He is one of (6) children of allen Warfield, though J.D> Warfield and others who merely copied his work did not have that information. Allen & Mary are credited with having two children, Greenbury and Allen. Neither were his children and they actually should have been attributed to another Allen Warfield who marriad a Miller.
So what's my source. The family Bible & Testiment of Lloyd Warfield, bachelor son of Vachel who kept the births, marriages and death records for the family line descending from Vachel Warfield & Sarah Dorsey (my 4th great grandparents). In addition I have Land Records, Chancery Court records, and handwritten family notes passed down thru his Allen's daughter Louisa aka "Luarza" Warfield (1820-1884) who married her cousin Wilson D. Warfield.
J.D Warfield did a fantastic job of recording Warfield history, but did not have the modern benefit of internet research and relied almost entirely on responses to letters sent to living family members, Wills and Church records.

Okay second item is a question to you. Are you the Kim of Chuck & Kim Warfield 900 Day Road? If so I would be available to meet with you at your convenience to go over and share records, photos, etc. I am a active member of both the HCHS & Maryland Historical Society and have been conducting extensive research in thru both the ancestry records, as well as meeting with surviving family members in order to gain sourced information. My tree is kept private because I see that most Hints on ancestry appear to simply copy each other. In doing so they create fact from fiction so to speak and other than Census records have very few sourced records.
I work regularly with reliable sources on the Warfield, Dorsey, Howard, Ridgely, Duvall, Gover, Day and Hobbs family trees. Those are the primary Warfield connections at least thru the early 1900's in Maryland.
I can be reached thru ancestry or by email at rwarfield09@gmail.com and would be happy to talk with you.
Robert E Warfield

My grandmother, Rhetta Warfield, wife of Charles Harwood Warfield of Elizabeth town Ky and Savannah, Ga. did research at the N.Y Public Library from a geneology book that I was told was titled, THe Warfields of Maryland. My mother, Margaret Warfield and her brother Charles Harwood Warfield Jr. were both born in Savannah, later moving to NY City in the 30's and 40's. Hope this may help!

I picked this Bible up several years ago thinking it was part of my ancestry. It isn't and I would like to get it to someone in this line. I can send you photos. The binding is very poor. There are 2 pages of birth information. It's also a very large and heavy Bible measuring 11x17 and 5" thick. A bill of sale is also included from 1860.

I have been working on Warfield of Maryland for many years. I just saw your post and hope it is still active. I would be more than glad to share what I have in exchange for your research. Have also been able to trace the Dorsey line back to when it was Darcy. Very interesting that a Darcy was beheaded by Henry VIII for treason.

i don't know if this is still active, but I have been researching the Warfields of Maryland also. I have worked with Rich Faber and met with him just last year. Sadly, he has passed. His database that he mentions is in the possession of the Howard County Historical Society. I would however be appreciative of any information that you may have and would be more than willing to share what I have found.

I wouldn't hesitate to contact anyone. Many people are interested in their family tree but just can't commit the time. I don't think that I am tied to the Kentucky Warfield's either. I believe I an a descendent of Deacon John Warfield who settled in the northeast. I'm not positive but my hunch is that my Warfield lineage was part of the loyalists that went to Canada during the revolutionary war and then migrated back to the US via Michigan, Ohio and/or Indiana. I know we ended up in Iowa. From there forward my records are very accurate.

Nothing on Basil. All of our Warfield's were in Granite City via East St. Louis, via Iowa before the trail gets thin in Ohio and Indiana, possibly NY, Canada or Md. If I can be of any help let me know. There was another branch of Warfield's in Granite City unrelated to us. Mac Warfield was the superintendant of streets for much of the 1970's.

Benjamin Warfield, Esq. shot and killed 1866

Daily Alta California (San Francisco, California)
November 18, 1866 p. 1 c. 5

Dreadful Tragedy in Kentucky – A Wealthy Citizen Killed.

The St. Louis Journal, October 25th, had the following:
At about seven o’clock on Wednesday evening, October 24th, Benjamin Warfield, Esq., a wealthy and very highly respectable citizen of Lexington, Ky., was shot and killed by Horace Armant in the office of the Broadway Hotel. Several weeks ago, the father of the young Armant was killed by some person unknown, but supposed to be a negro man with whom he had quarreled, and who once belonged to Mr. Warfield, and who was arrested for the offence.
Out of the occurrence there grew a personal misunderstanding, which resulted in the almost simultaneous shooting of the one at the other upon the moment of their meeting in the hotel, as above stated. The report that we have before us says that they came into the office through different doors at the same moment. Armant was shot slightly in the breast, but his victim escaped less fortunately, being shot in the shoulder and bowels. He was conveyed to his home, where he died at 2 o’clock am, having been fully conscious up to the very last.

Mr. Warfield belonged to one of the oldest and most distinguished families of Central Kentucky; was an extensive farmer, and at the time of his death was engaged, also, in a large wholesale grocery business in Lexington. He will be remembered with his brother Wm. Warfield, son-in-law, of the Rev. Dr. Robert J. Breckenridge, as a yearly exhibiter of the finest blooded cattle of the blue-grass region at many of our State Fairs. His wife – a most lovely woman – the daughter of the late John O. Cochrane, of Louisville, Ky., has the sympathy of a very large circle of relatives and friends in this city. He leaves her with three interesting children. He was a high-toned, chivalrous and scrupulously honorable man, and will be missed in Lexington by hosts of warm friends and admirers. His age was about thirty-five. Mrs. Warfield has a sister residing in New Albany, the wife of Joseph Odell, Esq., the editor of the Commercial.
Re: Reason Warfield

Here is my own take on the situation regarding which Mary Woodson marries Reason Warfield:

Thesis: Reason Warfield of Knox County, Kentucky, did not marry Mary Wade Woodson, daughter of Wade Netherland Woodson. Reason Warfield married Mary (Polly) Woodson, the daughter of Henry Macon Woodson.

There are numerous family histories which list the wife of Reason Warfield as Mary Wade Woodson, daughter of Wade Netherland Woodson, granddaughter of Tucker Woodson. I believe this to be incorrect. I think the original source of this error is a hand-typed copy of Marriage Book A from Knox County. The original Marriage Book A no longer exists. The entry for Reason Warfield, while it does list Mary Wade Woodson as the bride, is odd, with the date 6 Nov 1805, being added in later, with a different typewriter. Without the original record, it is impossible to judge the accuracy of this record.

The major work on the Woodson family, Historical Genealogy of the Woodsons and Their Connections (Henry Morton Woodson, 102) lists the birth of Mary Wade Woodson as 25 Oct 1800, in Powhatan County, Virginia. If this birth date is accurate, she would have been only five years old in 1805, the date she supposedly married Reason Warfield of Knox County. Woodson does not list a marriage for her to Reason Warfield. The 1810 census for Knox County shows Wade N. Woodson having two girls under the age of ten. This would match his daughters Caroline Matilda, born in 1803, and Mary, born 1800. It also shows one girl under 16, which matches his daughter Emily, born 1798.

As we trace Mary W. Woodson, the next record for her appears in the Maryland Marriage Records, where she is listed as marrying James B. Scott on 31 Aug 1821, in Baltimore County. They are listed in the 1830 Chesterfield, Virginia Census. They had at least one child, James D. Scott, and then the elder James died.

On her second marriage record, she is listed as Mary W. Scott. She was married to William M. Thornton on 10 Apr 1837 in Chesterfield, Virginia according to Early American Marriages: Virginia to 1850 by Dodd, Jordon R., et al. They appear in the 1840 census for Cumberland County, Virginia. Next, Mary W. Thornton is listed in the nominative 1850 census with her husband, and their son Richard C. Thornton, again in Cumberland County. She appears again, as Mary W. Thornton, in the 1860 Cumberland County Census, this time with just her son and his family. Her last appearance in the census is in 1870, in Cumberland County, but this time she is living with her eldest son, James D. Scott.

Henry Morton Woodson confirms both of the these marriages for her. Her name is consistently listed as “Mary W.” Her age on the census records is always consistent with a birth of 1800, except in the 1870 census, which I believe to be in error. I think it is safe to conclude that Mary Wade Woodson, daughter of Wade Netherland Woodson, is not the woman who married Reason Warfield in 1805 in Knox County, Kentucky.

And so the question remains--just who did Reason Warfield of Knox County, Kentucky marry?

I believe the real answer lies in a marriage announcement placed in the “Kentucky Gazette and General Advertiser” on 28 Nov 1805. The announcement appears thus: “Dr. R. Warfield of Barbourville, to Miss Polly Woodson, daughter of Henry Woodson, of Knox County. Married Nov. 3, 1805.” It should be remembered that Polly was a very common nickname for Mary. The 1810 Census for Knox County, Kentucky shows Reason Warfield in Barbourville, with a wife between 16 and 25 and two daughters. Reason himself is in the 26 to 45 category. This is all possible with a marriage in 1805. The 1810 Census also lists a Henry Woodson,, with his wife, both in the age category of 26 to 45. They would be an acceptable age range to be the parents of Reason Warfield’s wife.

The 1820 through 1840 censuses always show Reason Warfield with a wife, always aging appropriately. In 1850, we finally get a name for her--Mary. Her year of birth is about 1789 which would have made her about 16 when she married. This birth date also is three years prior to the marriage of Wade N. Woodson and Mary Harris. Her birthplace is listed as Virginia. But this census also reveals something else that has confused researchers: Reason Warfield and Mary Woodson have a 19-year-old son named Wade. I think it is also important to note here that they also have a daughter named Elizabeth. Both of these are family names for the Woodsons and will have an important bearing on determining who exactly Mary Woodson was.

We could stop here and simply say these must be two separate Marys because she cannot have been in two places at once. Still I think it is necessary to explain the presence of the son named Wade in Reason Warfield’s family. This lies in the origin of Henry Woodson of Knox County, Kentucky.

According to the Historical Genealogy of the Woodsons, Tucker Woodson also had a son named Henry Macon Woodson, who had a daughter Mary and a son William and married Elizabeth Burton. The book offers little other information on this Henry. I believe this Henry and this Mary to be those mentioned the marriage announcement placed in the “Kentucky Gazette and General Advertiser” on 28 Nov 1805.

The evidence for this is largely circumstantial. Mary gives her birthplace as Virginia in the 1850 census, which would be consistent with Henry originally coming from Virginia. By 1805, Henry is established in Knox County, Kentucky, where his daughter would have had the opportunity to meet Reason Warfield.

According to the Valentine Papers, (p. 650) Wade N. Woodson, and a Frances Harris of Powhatan County, Virginia, had an undivided moiety of a tract of land 6900 acres in Lincoln County (from which Knox County was formed) Kentucky on the waters of the Cumberland River and Stinking Creek. In 1810, both Henry Woodson and Wade N. Woodson appear in the Knox County, Kentucky Census. In 1820, Henry is on Stinking Creek and Wade is on Greesy Creek. They both again appear in 1830 and 1840 censuses. Both men are in the appropriate age ranges for Wade N. Woodson, born 1763, and Henry Macon Woodson, born 1770. I believe the Henry Woodson in Knox County is Henry Macon Woodson, the son of Tucker Woodson of Virginia. It does not seem unreasonable to me that two brothers from Virginia would move together to Kentucky. Family was important, and they relied on one another for assistance and support.

Janet Poff

Re: Reuben Warfield in Maryland

The Reuben Warfield you are possibly looking for B: 10 Jul 1801 in Lisbon, Anne Arundel County, Maryland D: 24 Apr 1892 and is buried in Lisbon, now Howard County, Maryland. He owned property in Carroll County, Maryland also. His parents were Eli Warfield, and Frances Dorsey. He descends from of Seth, of Richard, of John, of Richard I. and his Mother was Mary Rogers Gaither.
I have quite a few records on him from land records to slave registers to his profile.
He married three times, first to Deborah Leatherwood no date recorded but child born in 1833; second to Rachel Warfield a cousin in 1837 and third to Achsah Dorsey 1843.
Wallis Warfield Simpson, Spencer, and last the Duchess of Windsor was probably a 2nd cousin. As Rich faber, historian and geneologist told you years back all the Warfields are somehow related back to Richard the First.
Let me know what your connection to Reuben is and I will be happy to share what I have collected.
Robert E.
Re: Larkin and Leatha Warfield family info

Greetingsw from the Lloyd Dorsey Warfield family tree. Larkin "aka Barton" Warfield was the son of Allen Warfield, of Vachel, Benjamin, John, Richard I. Larkin lived in what is now Howard County, Maryland on a farm with father Allen .
Until it was sold to Reuben Warfield an uncle. The farm was part of Vachel Warfields estate inherited by Lloyd Dorsey Warfield, Allens brother in Vachels 1815 Will. I have Larkins birth, marriage recorded in pages of Lloyd Warfield's family bible and testiment. I also have hanwritten family records passed down which mention that Larkin's first wife, no name, took off one day andf he then moved to Indiana. He surfaced in calloway County as larkin Barton Warfield and the rest of the info in your email is the same that I have in my records. Larkin was my 3rd great UUncle.
Would love to hear from you and share documents.
My email is rwarfield09@gmail.com.
Robert E. Warfield (9th generation).
