Thank you. Mahockney (sometimes referred to a Mehockney or Mehockner) is the name of a plantation that is referenced in a 1722 deed from Francis
Gouldman to William
Winston, his mother's second husband. It was apparently where Martha
Gouldman, Francis's mother had lived. The earlier 1711 administration of Edward Gouldman's estate by his widow, Martha, mentioned that he acquired by deed in 1705 a tract that was known as Button's Range and all, or part, of it were being sold to Edmund
Thacker. Button's Range had been patented by
Button in 1666 and then conveyed to a
Williams in 1694. So, I am basically trying to trace the genealogy of these plantations to see if Mahockney was carved out of Button's Range.
Mahockney is derived from the name of the Indian tribe that resided in the region--the Mahocks.
