Some American Waring links

Paula S. Carrick  (View posts) Posted: 22 May 2000 10:14AM GMT
Hi, My ggmother was born MaryJane Waring. I
have written a long message three times and
been knocked off the net before I sent it.
this time I will only say that Sampson Waring
is my arriving ancestor. Arrived at "the
Cliffs" in Maryland in 1642. there are
published records at the DAR in DC; in a book
called "the Bowie Book"; and in the annals of
the Confederacy. There are links to Texas
Waring families, some north of the border,
and possibly to the SC Warings. My Warings
were not Irish but Norman-French (English).
I'd love to share what I learned at my dear
Mother's knee. Regards, Paula

I'm researching Peter Waring who I know lived in Sullivan, Madison co, New York. Family papers state he was born in Vermont, town unknown and Obit says he was born in Conneticut, town unknown. He was married to Delia Burton, and on 1860 cencus had a Ramsom Waring living with them age 42.
They moved to Waterloo, Iowa and on to Logan, Iowa.

I would really like to hear about your Warring Waring

My Waring ancestor was Sampson Waring who
arrived at "the Cliffs" in Calvert Co.,MD in
1642. He and some of his progeny stayed in the
MD/VA area until the present. My ggmother, a
Waring, was born in VA. One went to Texas, and
I have recently found some are in AR. A lot of
of their history is documented in several
places. Will be happy to tell you the wheres.
Is there anything specific you are interested
in? Let me know. If I can help, I will.

I'm researching the Waring family of Peter who was born probably in Conn. and married Delia Elizabeth Burton. The children from this family were Charles, Josephine, Lewis, Lucretia, and Chauncey. They lived in Madison Co. New York and moved to Harrison Co
Iowa where they settled and farmed. I think Peter had a brother Ramsom and sister Ann.

The Virginia Warings

Hi Paula: Do you have any inforamtion on a Thomas Waring b circa 1680 or a Francis Waring who was an adult in VA in 1745? This Francis could have daughters named Molley and Elizabeth. Allied families to these Warings are the surnames Fogg, Gouldman and Donoho.

Many thanks,
Marilyn Dunnahoo McLeod

The information I have had from my mother who
died some years ago was that Waring was a
derivative of de Warrenne. William deWarrenne
was, and to the present is documented to have
been, one of the Lords of the Marches with
William the Conqueror when he landed at
Hastings in 1066. This may be incorrect,
but so far I have seen nothing to the contra-
ry. According to the information I have both
a Thomas and a Francis Waring were born in
the Sampson Waring line in Maryland. There
were many properties in Md. which belonged to
the Waring family. The properties include
(but are not limited to) Waring Grove; His
Lordship's Favor; Bald Eagle; Mount Pleasant;
Black Walnut Thicket and others. I have
traveled Prince George, St Mary, and Calvert Countynty roads looking for and finding evidence
of such properties. Of course, Sampson, him-
self landed at "the Cliffs" in Calvert Co.,MD.
Though I am not able to look at my records--
currently in storage 'til we get into a new
house--I think a Dr.Thomas Waring, and his
mother, Henrietta Maria Waring went to Texas.
They are the beginning of the Austin area
Warings. Among more tangible records than my
memory are those in the DAR library, the
Bowie Book and others. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Paula:

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm trying to figure out the connection of the Waring, Gouldman, Ferguson and Donoho families of early Rappahannock Co., VA in the 1740's(later became Essex Co.). The Donoho family had kin in Maryland.

That's interesting that they came here to Austin.

Regards,
Marilyn

In the record of Virginia marriages before
1699, I found: Thomas Waring m.Alice Under-
wood on 5 Oct. 1673 in Richmond Co., Va.
Also, in the list of Revolutionary War Off-
icers I found 2 Warings from VA. but was, at
the time, unable to look at the list. In the
ranks of Va. militia 1651 to 1776, I found
Thomas Waring, Col.of Horse, Apr. 9, 1753.
I am certain there were Maryland Thomas War-
ings in the 17 century. I found a Captain
Francis Waring in the Colonial Militia for
the Apr. 9, 1753 date, also. Hope this is
helpful. Paula
