I kept your message of 3/2/2000 "in case".
Some information came to my attention through another 'cousin' that bears on your question (and mine) of where Benjamin Waring and Thomas Waring of Essex Co. VA came from. It suggests strongly that my Thomas (c. 1680 in VA) may have been the brother of your Benjamin (c.1683 in Charleston). A great deal of detail is available on him and his ancestors. His wife, Elizabeth is, I believe, Elizabeth Beamor as your Cousin, Elizabeth Waring Noble suggests. If it is he, he was a Major in the army of King Charles II before coming to America. If the story is true, before immigrating he lived in and near Staffordshire, Albrighton and Humphreston. And the biggest surprise to me, his descendents in Charleston may lay claim to the Dukedom of Valdorano. Since I can't send the information as an attachment, I will send it to you and your cousin (should you not have it) if you will provide me with your email addresses.
I hope the above is not idle speculation: I would really like to trace Thomas' roots in England.

You are looking for the same thing I am. Have been in contact with John Waring in Charleston. We're working on it.We finally have a Thomas (b. 1655, d. 1713), father of Thomas who married Elizabeth Gouldman, but nothing's too certain. We are fairly certain of this Thomas because his marriage with Alice Underwood is recorded in the S. Farnham Parish register. The father of this Thomas--the first Thomas, we believe, is named Michael. Still don't know if our 8th Great Grandfather (your 9th, I think) was born in VA or immigrated there from England.
Benjamin (who immigrated from England and settled on a Royal grant on the Ashley River near Charleston, SC)MAY have been accompanied by a brother, Thomas.
I will add your name to the "Round Robin" list of Waring 'cousins'. Should something be turned up, you'll know about it.

I am trying to find out info on Darby Henagan Swinney or Sweeney. I know he went by Henagan for a while and then by Sweeney. I am trying to find info out about his son Alfred(Bennett or Burnett) Sweeney. In 1804 a Darby Sweeney
made Alfred and his sister his legal children. Do you show any info on this. Any help you could give wou;d be helpful.

The consensus seems to be that originally, in the 1700's, the Sweeney-Henagan folks went by the hyphenated version of the name. At some point, some dropped the Sweeney, and others dropped the Henagan. My Darby Henagan was born in SC, son of Barnabas Henagan, around 1780. I am not familiar with the names you mentioned, but I am guessing that they may have been in NC. Some later generations also changed the spelling to Hennigan, but not all. Have you tried the other message boards? I will search my data later this week and see if I can come up with a clue for you.

She was born about 1789 in Sc. My Darby Sweeney married Elizabeth Eubanks B: 20 Feb 1830 SC on 25 Aug 1845 in SC
I have been trying to found info on this group for yrs now.
My Darby Henagan Sweeney was known in Richmond NC as
Darby Sweeney ESQ.

The Hamilton Waring that you mentioned was Capt. Paul Hamilton Waring . He was the son of Paul Hamilton Waring & Sarah Wilkerson Glover. He was killed by a minnie ball at Battery Wagner possibly by friendly fire. He was married to Frances Irene Hunter and had a son Paul Hamilton Waring, III & daughter Aurelia Waring. Capt Paul Hamilton Waring before the war he resided in St. Pauls Parish, SC. After the war his widow and children went to Florence, SC . Frances Irene (Hunter)Waring m. 2 William Quirk.
Julite Lee Waring who married William Stevens Smith was the daughter of Thomas Waring & Mary Waring. Thomas & Mary were first cousins. There are many descendants of William Stevens Smith & Juliet Lee Waring. This couple resided in Charleston (City), SC Hope this helps.
