Hello, I am researching the Wark family. I know a lot of folks have done this since your original posting but trying to get some information as Elizabeth Wark's son, Aaron, was my great-great grandfather. I am trying to trace back and like everyone else finding little documentation. Were you ever able to get a specific marriage for her? Thanks.

The mention of Morgan, VT caught my eye. John Wark (1843-1910) moved to Morgan from Quebec in the late 1860s. He married Frances Miles in Morgan in 1869, Their first 3 children were born in Morgan - Daniel, Sarah & Leas. John & Frances then moved back to Quebec (Thetford & Leeds, Megantic), where they had 3 more children.

John was my GG-granduncle.

If anyone is watching, I'd be happy to share info.

Ralph Nichols
rvnichols@verizon.net

Good afternoon ,

Thank you for your emails from the last day! I am very happy with it and find it very nice that we have the same ancestors. Last few days I have been busy finding a document for us interrupting the birth of Johann Albert Wark with Thedinghausen as birthplace. It was a lot of detective work but I found it yesterday, awesome! I understand that you also have contact with Ger Wark from Amsterdam. This is a cousin of mine and together we search for the Wark-history.

After Christmas, I have more time to write together!

I wish a merry Christmas for my family in Australia, Yvonne Wark , Amsterdam Holland

Re: WARK
The surname Wark is very very seldom here in Germany and it seems, that
it comes from only one farm in Thedinghausen-Westerwisch (near Bremen).
The farm history (list with its owners) is here:

history/owners of farm nr. 7 in Thedinghausen-Westerwisch, written by
Ernst Hadler from Thedinghausen abt. 1984.

At farm Nr. 7 is following listed:
farmowners at Nr. 7 (Brinksitzer = means brinksitter (a small farm)), housename: Warks-house

1. Hinrich Wark (1610 mentioned Warks widow)
2. Hinrich Wark married 1640 Alke Kluebers
3. Hinrich Wark, born in Thedinghausen-Westerwisch abt. 1650 married
October 12, 1684 to Anna Wicke, born abt. 1647 from Felde-Riede.
4. Johann Wark born abt 1696 in Westerwisch married October 23, 1710 to
Margarethe Glander from Schwarme.
5. Eyler Beneke married May 25, 1730 the widow Anna Wark (Anna Margarethe nee Glander?).
6. Johann Wark married November 21, 1737 Gesche Voss from Westerwisch Nr. 32.
7. Harm Hinrich Wark, born March 3, 1743, deceased. bef, 1816 married
September 21, 1772 to Anna Zum Bahlen, born September 25, 1748 in
Emtinghausen Nr. 3, deceased December 29, 1816 in Westerwisch.
8. Johann Hinrich Wark, born September 20, 1788, deceased November 11,
1846 married November 10, 1813 to Mette Horling, born Westerwisch
January 3, 1786, deceased April 21, 1851.
9. Johann Wark, born August 18, 1826, deceased May 18, 1876 mariied
bef. 1856 to Margarethe Adelheid Brand, born August 24, 1825 in
Westerwisch, deceased April 26, 1880 in Westerwisch.
10 Heinrich Wark, born January 27 1856 married first July 29, 1880 to Rebecca Winkelmann, born in Emtinghausen August 21, 1858, deceased April 16, 1887 in Westerwisch. He married a second time June 9, 1901 to Catharine Margarethe nee Luers, widowed Cranz born in Westerwisch March 4, 1849
11. A son was Johann
12. the farm was sold to Johann Luers from Hagen-Grinden

----------------------
To the history:
The farm Westerwisch 7 was already mentioned in an ownerlist of 1610
and "survived" the 30year-war. The farm had 5 Hectare own land, not
enough to live from it, so the Warks had other professions.
In 1901 Heinrich Wark was mentioned as cigarmaker.
There are Warks living in Bremen and Beppen.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats the history of farm nr. 7.
The firstname Johann Albert appears also in the family (one was born
1819 and could be your ancestor), so it might be possible, that your family-twig belongs also to
this family.
At least two members of this family emigrated to Australia. Descendants of them are still living there.
I have a family-tree from this twig and can send it to you if you like.

I visited the churchbook-office in Thedinghausen abt. 3 month ago and
can check the churchbook again for Johann Albert and Elisabeth Köhler (I assume, that this might be her real surname).
It seems, that this couple emigrated to Amsterdam, so is it possible to find their death-registration? Perhaps there is some more information given about the date/place of birth and so on.

By the way, I am not directly related to the Wark-family only connected by marriages.

Thats all for the moment. I wish you a happy day,

Yes, that would be the correct family line. I guess the fact that Benjamin Wark is adopted presents a new obstacle for me. In order to truly trace my family, I'd have to somehow figure out who Benjamin Wark's blood parents were.

I really don't have a lot of information about them, unfortunately. I'm still trying to confirm that everything I have above my grandparents is correct, as well. Unfortunately, my family didn't do a very good job keeping track of this stuff, so trying to rebuild a family tree from scratch is pretty difficult.

I'm not sure how big your database of Warks is, but could you perhaps confirm that my information is correct? I know for sure that my great-grandfather is Benjamin Wark, and that his wife was Sarah Semmer. Let me know what info you need, and I'll try my best to provide it.

If it helps any, I'm told that my family is from Scotland, so I guess that would rule out the ones from Canada or Australia.

John and Mary Wark, adopted parents to Benjamin Wark?

I'm still pretty new to this family tree business, and I seem to have hit a plateau with my genealogy. My great-grandfather is Benjamin Wark, who was apparently an adopted-son to John and Mary Wark. Benjamin married Sarah Semmer, and they gave birth to Glen, LaMoine, Howard, and Mildred Wark.

I would like to find more information in regards to Benjamin Wark and his "father" John Wark, and if at all possible, maybe find Benjamin's blood father. I have found several results for a John Wark in Canada, and some Warks out of Australia, but cannot draw the lines. The John Wark I'm looking for was apparently born in 1848, if my info is correct.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you are able to provide.

I have traced my branch of the Wark family back to David Wark who immigrated from Ballykelly, No. Ireland, with his daughter Jane and her husband Alexander Cochrane. I would like to trace the family back even further in Ireland. I believe David was born in Londonberry County, No. Ireland in 1774, but have found no record of this.

Wark from Ireland to Montreal, Quebec

Recently I found that my great great grandfather JAMES WARK born 1810 Donegal, Ireland, had 6 brothers and two sisters. Apparantly his father came to Canada a couple of times and then sent for some of the family to come from Donegal, apparantly they were lost at sea, not sure how many or who came over. James Wark then went to live with his Aunt Louden in the Myroe, Londonderry Ireland area, until he came to Canada about 1840 to Join his brother's and sister.
The brother's I now know of are, WILLIAM WARK born about 1804, in 1858 he arrived aboard the Argentinus from Londonderry to Quebec with his wife: JANE, 50, daughters, MARY JANE, 20, ANN, 13, and sons, JAMES, 18, WILLIAM 16. 1861 and 1871 this family can be found at Hacques-Cartier, Quebec, in 1881 they are in Windsor, Richmond& Wolfe, Quebec.
ROBERT WARK, born about 1805, Ireland, he immigrated from Londonderry 1823,in Quebec.
And sister SARAH WARK, born about 1813,married 1845, Montreal, Quebec to JOSEPH MARTIN, SARAH died in Montreal, 1883.
There are a lot of Wark's in the Montreal area and so far it is looking like most of them are related. I would be interested in hearing from other Wark researchers in this area.
Thanks,Cheryl Wark
Wark, Moore, Brown, Little, Allison

I recently received an old letter with some further information of my great great grandfather James Wark born 1810, Donegal,Ireland and died 1907, Manitoba, Canada, buried Boissevain Cemetery.
In this letter Robert says that James was born at Mount Argus, could that possibly have been Argory Hill, has anyone had any Wark family in this area, or familiar with any of the names mentioned in the old letter below?

Windsor
May 28th 1907
To Harry Wark ( son of James Wark and Mary Ann Terry)

Dear Cousin, I hope that you and your good wife and all your children are in good health. We are all pretty well at present. I felt very sorry when I received the paper about my Uncle James (James Wark died 1907, Manitoba, Canada) death. I just got a letter a few days ago from the old country from Mr. MacDonnel. He told me that Solomon Moore's John was alive yet and could walk around , he is 98 years old, he is a first cousin of you fathers, so I thought that I would have the pleasure of letting your father know that he had a cousin alive and well in the old country. Older than himself, but god had ordered it different . I hope that Fred Wark and his wife & family are all well. Your father was born in the County of Donegal in a little Scotch settlement in a place called Mount Argus, they were all Presbyterians, but he was reared in the County of Derry in a place that they call the Lough Side ( I think this should be Foyle) or Myroe. He served his time in Newton, Limavady, that is where I came from and there is nine Presbyterian churches in the Presbytery of Limavady and one of the old Scotch Covenanting churches. Where your father was born he had cousins the name of Brown, Little and Allinson and his Uncle John Warks family his brothers people all lived in my Myroe, they were all Presbyterian, so he must joined the Methodist since he came to Canada.

If anything sounds familiar I would like to hear from you.
Thanks, Cheryl Wark

I am still working on the Wark/Work database, haven't been doing too much the last couple of months, but winter is on it's way, and then I will be back into it.
I do not have any of your family in the database right now, but I still have lots of information that is not in the data base yet.
If you would like to send me further info of your family I can put it into the database and see if I can add to it. You can contact me at thepenclw@yahoo.ca
Thanks Cheryl

Are you still compiling Wark history? My fifth Great Grandmother is Janet Wark, christened 1718, Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland, father listed as John Wark.

She married Richard Tennant, born 1712 Glascow, Lanark, Scotland. They had ten or eleven children many who died in infancy. I had a list of them but it has gone astray (before I could save it to a digital format) Richard was part of General Wolfe's army that fought the Battle of Quebec. Richard died on the Plains of Abraham, 13 Sep 1759

Anyone who has more info please contact me.

Hal Tennant
Murfreesboro, Tennessee

RE: Warks in Canada (Ottawa Valley)

There are Warks that settled in the Ottawa Valley (Renfrew) coming from Ireland in the 1800's. My family is descended from Claude Wark, son of John Wark. I believe this must be a different branch of the family? We had a family reunion this summer (2008) in Lanark County.
