The SC Online Archives has a 32 page will of William H. Cannon,Sr. dated 1843 that names Martha Warr and her children George Nelson Warr & Eliza Maria Warr. The will does not name the relationship between Wm. & Martha but he is quite wealthy and provides well for Martha & her children.

I am looking for Eliza Maria Ward b. 1829. She married James E. Broach & they lived in Darlington, SC. The Ward name comes from the death certificate of their son Wesley. Their daughter Mary Ann Broach married Wm. Howard Hinson & she named one of her sons George Nelson Hinson.

http://www.archivesindex.sc.gov/

Donna
Albert Farnham Warr family of Bristol

Seeking info on the family of Albert Farnham Warr (1870-1929) of Bristol, England. He was married to Fanny Maria _____ and they had at least three children, I believe: Frederick Farnham Warr who died in battle in WWI, Gladys Irene Warr (1901-?), and Charles Edward Warr (1909-1995) of Bristol.

What became of Gladys and Charles? Are there any living descendants?

Albert Farnham Warr was the son of Farnham Warr (1837-1895) and Kezia Woodman (1840-1923) of Bristol. I am related to this family through Kezia's sister Fanny Woodman.

Thanks for any tips!

Chris
cbaer@vineyard.net

Hi Trevor: I went to the library this morning & looked up the information. I saved some data to my thumb drive & e-mailed the actual images to myself rather than write it all down. The images never showed up so I'll have to go back & make copies of them. I've got all the censuses from 1841 thru 1901, DI's etc. If you give me your e-mail address I'll send everything I've gotten so far. But that doesn't contain POB's on it.I'll send you that once I get the images
All the best,

Chris Maslen
maslenfam@hotmail.com

Hi Simone, I have only just seen your query Oct 2004) regarding the Warr family as I have only just started researching my fathers family. Did your father have a brother called Leonard born in 1910 and died 1932, from bits of information I have found out (if it is the right family), my great grandfather may have been George Warr married to Ada, does this ring any bells. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it does and that you also see this message.
Regards
Julie
Hi, I am a complete novice at tracing my family tree and didn't know if there was any connect between your family and my own. My grandfather died before my father was born in 1932 so he never knew him and doesn't know anything about him. His name was Leonard Warr and he was born in London in 1910, married Elsie Bond in 1931 and died aged 22 in 1932 just before my father was born. I have found a possible connection in that George and Ada Warr may have been his parents but am not completely sure. My father is quite keen to find out about his family. Does any of this sound like connections in your family?

WARR Rev. Samuel G. 1915-2010

LAKELAND, FLA. – Samuel Gregory Warr, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio died on Aug. 22, 2010 in Lakeland. A memorial service was held in the chapel of the Florida Presbyterian Homes on Aug. 27.

Sam was born in Burlington, Iowa, Aug. 27, 1915, to William Gordon and Versa Gregory Warr.

He grew up in Geneva, N.Y., graduating from Hobart College in 1937. He then went to Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, N.J., a member of the class of 1940.
After graduation, he served as pastor in both Cincinnati and New Philadelphia, Ohio.

During World War II, Sam was commissioned in the U.S. Naval Reserve as a Chaplin, serving most of his duty in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After discharge, he served pastorates in both Johnstown and Williamsport, Pa.

In December 1951, Sam was called to the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Youngstown, Ohio where he served 18 years. At that time, Westminster was a downtown congregation. The presbytery, knowing that the downtown could not continue to support two Presbyterian churches, requested that Westminster relocate. In 1955, the congregation voted to move 6 miles south Boardman Township. Services were held at both the downtown church as well as various schools in Boardman until the fellowship hall was built in 1961. The church sanctuary was eventually completed in 1967.

Reverend Warr left Youngstown, Ohio in 1969 and continued his ministry in St. Petersburg, Fla. He retired in 1978.

He was elected to the Board of Trustees of Princeton Seminary, serving 33 years, until he was elected Trustee Emeritus in 1991 at age 75.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Getty, whom he married June 29, 1940.

Dorothy was born in Johnstown, Pa., the daughter of Harry Kerr and Bertha St. Clair Getty.

She attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, later graduating with a degree in piano and organ music from Westminster Choir College, in Princeton, N.J. in 1939.

While in Youngstown, Dorothy was an active member of the Y.W.C.A. Board, Research Club, Substitute Organist and director of the Westminster women’s chorus. After moving to Florida, Dorothy was moderator of the West Florida Presbytery, president of PEO Chapter CP, director of the church bell choir and director/pianist of the Florida Presbyterian Homes choral group.

She died on Feb. 27, 2007, in Lakeland.

A brother, William Gordon Warr Jr. of Glendale, Calif., is deceased.

Reverend Warr is survived by a sister, Versa Bailey of Merriam, Kansas; a son, Samuel Getty Warr (Dianne) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Andrea St. Clair Warr Armbrecht (Bill) of Canfield, Ohio; grandchildren, Alison (Matt) Dobro and Geoffrey Armbrecht of Canfield, Kristin Wing of Newberry, Fla., Gregory (Lori) Warr of Delray Beach, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Cory Warr and Jessica Calaway of Delray Beach.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive, Boardman, OHIO 44512.

Mahoning

Found a short bio of James Monroe Warr while researching (10 years ago) the family that held my ancestors as slaves for perhaps 3 generations. To give you the exact source I'll need time to search as I only have a copy. The source is either a local history I was able to view at a B&B in Germantown or from the county library in Somerville. There are also bios of James Warr "son of Lemuel and Hannah Warr of Northampton Co., N..C." and Oliver Palmer Warr "son of James Monroe and Annie E. Palmer." The men of the family were leaders in the Masons-- Amerigo Vespucius Warr, a Grand Master. A great-great-granddaughter Judie King was living in Texas the one time I spoke with her. She had unearthed the family cemetery near Germantown. I'm just beginning to focus on the Warrs again, so would welcome exchanging whatever information will help me understand who these people were, their homes, churches, properties, diaries. My family's story is clearly tied to theirs. - J. Warr

Greetings! I'd be very interested in knowing how Robert Wiggatt was referred to in that letter. I believe my Great Great grandmother was Ann Wiggatt, born about 1823, and she had a younger brother named Robert. Some of the other names you mention are names that keep popping up in their locale as I research. I wonder if they were all relatives or friends.

Many thanks,

Laura Weeks

Hi Karen,

My great great grandfather James Warr, a wheelright journeyman, claims in the census records to have been born in 1825/26 in Newport Pagnell Bucks, but I have yet to find a convincing entry - perhaps James was his second name which he preferred to use...who knows?! He married Ann Taylor, but again I have difficulty finding the marriage entry, yet in all censuses she takes on the name Warr from the birth of their first son in Reading in 1866. Ann came from Penn Street in Bucks and was born about 1834. Ring any bells with you?

All the best! Simone
