Jane Beck married William Warrior in 1878. They were my gggrandparents and lived in Yorkshire. Their son Herbert was my ggrandfather.
Jane died in 1900, leaving 3 children. They moved to Birkenhead, Wirral between 1912-1914 and Herbert married Georgina Mills in 1911.
They had a daughter, Ivy in 1912.
Herbert and Georgina then appear to have adopted Oswald Warrior (my Grandfather). He was the son of Jack and Gladys Carter.
I have discovered this information today, and never knew my granfather was adopted- we all thought we were thoroughbred Warriors!
I hope this is useful
Karen Warrior

Hello Duane

I am a direct descendant of Thomas Warrior and Elizabeth Umpleby through the following line..
Thomas Warrior x Elizabeth Umpleby
George Warrior x Jane Pratt
Thomas Warrior x Alice Hayton
Ellen Maria Warrior x Thomas Alva Hymas (my grandmother)

I have a couple of queries about the original thread that you posted.. can you tell me where you obtained the info about Thomas Warrior (1768) and Mary Elizabeth Taylor being the parents of my Thomas Warrior (1801) as I visit West Tanfield quite frequently and have not yet been able to find out who his parents were; one possibility I was working on was that he was the illegitimate son of Mary Warrior (Warrier) who is the sister of Thomas (1768)..

I've also noticed that you have Elizabeth Umpleby as being Christened on 14 Apr 1805 in Leathley... she wasn't; she was actually Christened on 19 Mar 1805 in West Tanfield.

I do have some photo's of the church and churchyard in West Tanfield and of some graves that might be of interest that I'll add to my family tree on ancestry.co.uk..

all the best

Jan Lovesey

http://www.lovesey.org.uk

My email is jillmwebb@bigpond.com and lets compare what we know. I have photos too of Alf and his children from early 1900s. Obviously very interested on what you have on my branch and how we fit in with yours. My mother has now passed away but her 2 sisters are still alive in their 80's. She started all this in the first place and its just been amazing what I have discovered. We descend from Alf Warrior's first son, James. Also Alf named some his sons William and Herbert (who died as a baby).

Look forward to hearing further.

... Jill

Thanks so much for your reply Jill! I indeed already had your branch partially mapped out just so that I could have ALL Warriors present in my database so when I unearthed one I could determine which branch they belonged to :)

I agree - there are a number of possible siblings of Thomas Warrior, including John, but so far no definite link. I would love to exchange what information we have on your particular branch just so that I know I have the most correct information. I can e-mail you a PDF with your tree to compare if you'd like (to avoid information on living people being posted).

And I think there are more Warriors in Australia than you think! I found a slew of them who moved from the Isle of Wight and then from there took off for Australia.

They descend from a William Warrior (b. about 1811) (another brother of Thomas or John?) who married an Eliza and produced 10 children, one of which was another Alfred b. 1843 in West Ham, Essex and died on the Isle of Wight. His namesake Alfred (b. 1879) and a number of his siblings moved to Australia about 1912 and setted in NSW.

I'm pretty sure they're connected to an Australian Warrior family who have a family blog online, but I haven't been able to connect with them to confirm any connections yet
Blog: http://warriorfamilystuff.blogspot.com/

Thanks again and hope to connect soon
Duane

Hello Duan

My mother's family were Warriors and I have tracked them to Borough Bridge in North Yorkshire - which isn't too far from the towns you are researching.

My mother's grandfather was Alfred Sharp Warrior. His mother was Ann Warrior born about 1821 and there is no father listed on the birth certificate. I think Ann's father was John Warrior. I have been able to find 2 marrages for Ann after Alf was born. Alf decided to migrate to Australia in the 1870s.

I would think they are another branch of the Thomas Warrior family - perhaps John and Thomas were brothers. That earlier period is difficult to trace.

Alf fathered 9 children here in Sydney - 7 boys and 2 girls. However the Warrior name is no more.

Hope this interesting

Sincerely
Jill Webb

Hi Debbie

Just wrote on other board too.
I think the Herbert is probably my relation but the Alfreds are both too late if Anne's Alfred/Alice Warrior living in Australia 1930 are my relatives. They are possibly the A Warrior M & F going to Sydney 1920? or looking again it`s possible they could be the 1930's pair.

Do you know the dates the Electoral Roll was compiled / the ships' entries to Sydney in 1920/30? That would help to put them with Mildred Civil who I think went in 1920.

Regards

Keith
I was looking thru the 1871 census, for WARRIOR, in Bromely, and discovered Bromely to be in Kent. I also found several variations of Bromely. This search is for a friend trying to find her grandmother, Lucy WARRIOR, born 21 Apr 1870 from Bromely (possibly a mail-order bride). She married Albert CARR in Minnesota, USA, very near the Canadian border.

I'm not at all familiar with the Kent/Bromely area (I'm from the USA) and am wondering if someone could give me an idea of where the various Bromely names are found, relative to the Bromely name? Meaning, are they all in the same general area?

A marriage document shows Lucy's parents as James Warrior and Esther Ives.

Thanks for any help!

Martin,

I am interested in Hannah Wherrier (b 1790) daughter of John Wharrier and Jane Askew of Gateshead. The Wharriers appear in Gateshead around 1780. I have tentatively linked John to John Wharrier who married Mary Wheatly in Jarrow in 1771. this John was born in South Shields although he may alternatively be the John who married Isabella Dixon rather than Mary Wheatly.

I was interested in your information regarding earlier Wharriers in Northumberland / Durham

regards

John

My grandmother Ellen Hymas (nee Warrior) was born in Melmerby N Yorks in 1919. Her father Thomas was born in Nth Stainley in 1868. As far as i know, his siblings were William b. 1870, Herbert b. 1879, George b. 1874, Emma b. 1872 and John (Jack) b. 1867. Their father was George who was born in 1833 in Nth Stainley and his wife Jane (don't know her maiden name) was born in Hampsthwaite Yorks in 1835. It's likely that your Jane is related - a cousin perhaps as there were a few warriors around that area of Yorkshire in the 1800's. I'm trying to find actual links to take me back further. I'll let you know if I do.

Brenda,
The names sound very promising. I am really stuck as I have found another James Warrier in 1901 aged 13 who was an inmate at Highbury Truant School. He is also shown as being born in Bermondsey which is where some of the family were living. The James Warrior you have shown was born in Bethnal green and is the same age. As a matter of interest do you have any relations from the Warriors/warriers with the surnames of Strank, Humphrey, Carr or Collins

Julie

Her fathers name was James Warrior and he died 1899. Could this be the same family. Mine are all based in London. One bit of information that I have is that James Warrior (your possible Gt Grandfather) attended a school in Merston, Norfolk in 1901.

Would like to swap some more info.
I don't think so. I have had some information from a Doug Hood who told me that a lot of Warrior's in America (and maybe Warrer's) came from a person who changed their surname from Hood to Warrior.

Thanks anyway.

I am also researching the warrior family. My Nan was Marie Caroline Warrior 29/09/1921 - 03/11/2002 born in Hackney. She had 4 brothers David, Henry, James & John. Her father was James John Henry Warrior ??/??1886 - 26/11/1956 married to Marie Victoria Griffin 06/05/1897 - 12/09/1982. His father was James Henry Warrior and all I know about him at present is that he was a horse carman and he died before 1918.
One of Nan's brothers is still alive and once I've tracked him down I might find out more if you are interested.
