Ellen was not the mother of Hester as she and John were married many years after her birth. I suspect Hester's mother's maiden name may have been "Keyes", but who knows. Also, the next entry in this discussion sugests that John was the son of Archibald Wasson & Elizabeth Woods. Archibald and elizabeth did have a son by the name of John but it could not have been this John Wasson. I have more questions than answers regarding these individuals.

Rosamond Wasson's maiden name

John Wasson was my 4th great grandfather, born 08 Jul 1792 in Iredell, North Carolina, died 25 Mar 1868 in Deer Creek, Carroll, Indiana, USA. He married Rosamond around 1815, possibly in North Carolina before moving to Indiana. Rosemond was born May 1792 in North Carolina, died 07 Mar 1863 in Deer Creek, Carroll, Indiana.
I have searched North Carolina records but am unable to locate Rosamond's maiden name or marriage record. Most folks just refer to her as Mrs. Wasson. Does anyone know Rosamond’s maiden name or how I might locate it? Thanks!
Ysearch now lists 4, 3 from FamilyTreeDNA (including my Wasson son-in-law, kit number MK9F7) and 1 from Relative Genetics.

I don't have a William McClelland Wasson in my Wasson database (I study my son-in-law's ancestry), but if you can tell me more about this line I'll look more closely.

Hi,
According to Ruth's Granddaughter- (my grandmother Ruth) Ruth's maiden name was Wasson. It is also given as the mother's name on her daughter Esther Jane's death cert. She married Perry Jefferson Jackson. They are found together in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 censuswith the appropriate children. The 1850 census seems to prove that she was a widow when she married Perry. This also verifies Mom's saying there was a family connections to the Wordens. It also explains why I couldn't find Perry with any chilren in 1850. My mom said that Perry had been previously married. I was able to document his marriage to Julia Ann Henderson in Feb of 1840 in Brown county. Mom said the first children were from Perry's first marriage. Looks like she was right about them being 1/2 siblings to the younger children but wrong as to the father. Strangely enough all the children except John and America and Caroline used the surname Jackson. I have pictures of America. Caroline, Anna Lavina and my great grandmother Esther Jane posted here on Ancestry using the Jackson surname. According to the family lore, America went by Mack, Caroline went by Cal and Lavina went by Veen. The daughter and granddaughters of Ruth and Perry followed this naming pattern: each Ruth had a daughter named Jane. My mom was a Jane, my sistera Ruth, my daughter a Jane
Susan Peppers Locke

First of all, Margaret Beard/Baird Wasson was Samuel Ross's first wife. Elizabeth, who is mentioned in his will, was his second wife.
James Wasson was a Revolutionary War soldier. A woman by the name of Mary Cochran Finnell applied for membership in the DAR in October of 1927. She was accepted and her application is available to anyone who sends for it. Therefore, the information that I have is based on her application. If you would like a copy of her application, I can provide you with a copy from mine to save you time and expense. It explains her own lineage to James Wasson and also lists the children they had. My copy was made in the days of the zerox machines and, therefore, isn't all that good. I should imagine that, with the copy machines we now have, you would receive a much better copy of her application. However, mine is actually readable.

Let me know your address so that I can mail it to you if you want mine. By the way, Mrs. Finnell's DAR number is 247509
should you wish to send for it.

You should be able to find the Wasson children in the Census records of KY and then be able to trace down one of them to you.
I don't have either of those in my file but that doesn't mean much because I don't have many Wasson families. A Mr Hapes has done a lot of research on the Wasson name but I discovered his "World of Wassons" book is not at the Ft wayne, Indiana Library, only a list of names that with his numbering system are on computer discs and no one knows where he or his records can be reached. It would have been so great if he had given a copy to the library. So if anyone knows how to reach Harold Hapes in Hale or Odessa MO, please ask him to let this board know.

I am also tracing an illusive Wasson. My 2'nd great grandmother was Ruth Wasson Jackson, b. abt 1826. She was born in either Ohio or KY, depending on which census you believe. She and her husband Perry Jefferson Jackson are enumerated in the 1860 and 1870 census's in Adams county, first in Mckenzie and then in Manchester township. In 1880 they were in Ripley, Brown County. According to my late grandmother who had lived with Ruth she was a Scot.

Some way or other there is a connection with the Wardens.
A John R and Caroline . In 1870 they are living with Perry & family.

Susan Peppers Locke

Forgot to mention, Early for that area, there were many Wassons around the area south of Crawfordsville, IN that came from VA via Shelby Co, KY who might be related to my VA family. One was born as early as 1801 in Shelby Co. There is also a line of Wassons in and from early North Carolina when it was still districts instead of counties. Hope this helps someone.

One of my 2nd Gr Grandma's was Hester Keyes Wasson Wilson born & married in Rockbridge County, VA. Her father was John and she had a brother Thomas or Thomasson. Father John served in the Revol War from both Augusta and Rockbridge Co. I have a poor copy of his will. He was married to a Eleanor or Ellen Till but have nothing on any Till Family. Hester moved to Adams Co, OH and all but the oldest of her children born there. I've tracked other Wassons there but only slight proof of 1 being her sibling.
Finding Wassons anywhere is tricky. I went to Rockbridge Co this past spring and studied all they have and only found mention of 2 Wassum's, not even John. I've also been to a fabulous genealogy library and they have nothing so I am very frustrated. This sounds like Robert might be one of Hester's brothers. Most of the people they seem associated with were early Scotch-Irish but Iinstinct tells me that is not where the Wassons came from. A person raised in France told me there are many there - anyone venture a guess.

Just wanted to throw in, in case it might help, James Wasson lived down around Yellville or Danville, Arkansas, my memory is fading. His father was Golden Wasson who had moved to Texas from around Sedalia, Missouri about the time of the Civil War. Judge Parker hung James Wasson in Fort Smith, Arkansas for several murders in 1886. It took me 35 years to figure out that Golden Wasson was related to me.

My grandfather, also named James Wasson came to live with us in 1964, dying of cancer. Before he died, he told me his uncle had wandered down towards Fort Smith and had never been seen again. James Wasson wasn't my grandfather's uncle, but a cousin of some kind. But it was enough to keep me searching for years. And finally there was a payoff!

Hello, I read with interest your request for information on a James Wasson- one of my ancestors was James born in 1762 Schenectady,NY. my records show he was married in 1791 in the Dutch Reformed Church. I don't have a wife for him yet. Many of my ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War. Does this sound like who you are looking for? There was a son Samuel, who fought in the the War of 1812 . He married in Vermont and later moved to Michigan. We have only a handful of Wasson here in Mich. So I appreciate any info you may have. I have traced our line to Ireland and Scotland to the 1500' Sylvia Wasson-Rogers

I have to take issue with your assumption of Daniel being Hugh's brother. Perhaps Hugh did have a brother named Daniel, but it wasn't this Daniel Wasson as he was born in Ireland in 1861 whereas the info I have gathered states Hugh and his family were born in PA. This Daniel came to AMerica in 1774 and immediately joined Washington's Army, later settling in Scrubgrass Township. They could have been cousins, perhaps that is why Daniel came to America because he already had relatives here, we don't really know? Anyway, I am a direct descendant of this Daniel Wasson, he was my great great great great grandfather and I have notes that have been passed down to me from my great great grandmother (his granddaughter) regarding his life. Let me know if you have any questions or further documentation.

I am unable to attach the photo I just took of his grave. Maybe you could send your email address to kay5434@windstream.net. I live in Kentucky, Bath County.

Elizabeth was living when he died because she is mentioned in his will."...to my affectionate wife Elizabeth one thousand dollars..."

I have only lived on the farm for 2 years and it is steeped in German Brethern, Dunker , History so I was curious to find a Ross buried here.(Fishback was a German Brethern, Dunker)

So, I believe the Cochrans, Bairds, and Wassons came together from Pennsylvania, but don't know why they were going to Maysville when her first husband drowned in the Ohio River. Elizabeths Father, John, became established in Bourbon County, only a few miles away. She first married a Wasson, then Samuel. I don't remember the details but, Elizabeth's death is recorded in a Presbyterian or Church of Christ record. The source is the Index of Restoration Movement. I believe it was February 21, 1834. I don't understand this contradiction.

I have heard and not proven that Samuel was a Reverend of the Christian Church or perhaps Church of Christ. I am interested in finding out how he came to Kentucky, and where he came from.

Kay

Kay: I am delighted to know that someone knows where Samuel Ross's grave is. I did contact a man once who said that the gravestone had sunk but he knew it was there???? Could you poke the ground here and there with a metal rod and see if you can locate any other graves? I had thought that Margaret would be there. His will mentions another woman's name and I thought she had died before he did. I guess that is why I thought she would be buried near him. In this particular land deed of sale of the land to Charles Fishback, it mentions "the graveyard where said Samuel Ross, dec'd and others of the family are buried to be kept and used while time lasts for a graveyard it being agreeable to the Last Will and Testament of said Samuel Ross, dec'd,." That is why I think others must be there.

Are you related to Charles Fishback? This is really quite exciting. Julia

I had found out about Catherine & Levi Ragsdale since my original post, but not Eliza. Did the son Perry actually exist? Do you know anything else about Alexander himself? I descend from Jos L Sloss' dau., Mary Jane.

Would like to also talk to you about your 'proof'. We could talk privately if you would like.

Thanks,

Robin

I'd be interested in learning where they picked up the middle name "Chillison".

My name is John Allan Wasson II, and if I'm not mistaken, I believe Rebecca is my niece. I have just started researching the Wasson family name. I started about 10 years ago, on ancestry.com, but at that time I could not figure out how to get started, without going to Danville, Illinois, because there was not that much information on line. About two weeks ago, I thought I'd try it again and have made tremendous progress. I'm still working on figuring out how to use ancestry.com, but am really excited about it. I would like to see how your family tree has developed, and share mine, but I'm not sure how to give you the information to access it, or if it is freely available to anyone on ancestry. Anyway I'd like to hear from you. I will be getting in touch with my niece and see if this is her post. Allan.

Yes, but not from the Wasson side. Cora was raised by a surrogate named Mary Jane, possibly her biological aunt. I understand her father was an Indian chief.

I think the Frank Wasson in your line was a son to my great great grandfather James M Wasson. I guess that would make you my 4th cousin. If you get this contact me at jsrlwasson@netzero.com so we can help each other with information. I have recently track our line back to 1774.
