I have only been able to go back to my Great Grandfather, James M. Waters....I have found it spelled Watters too. On one Census it has him born in 1828 in ILL.; on another it has Tenn. Also has his parents listed as foreign born. I found him on the 1850 Census in Texas and from there have traced him til his death. Would love to find his parents or a sibling.

Hello Ann. I'm just reading your posting on the Waters family, and although you posted this many years ago, I thought I"d write.

I'm just now discovering that my paternal great grandmother may have been born in Sligo - although I believe she eventually moved to Co. Clare. You mentioned a Patrick Waters - do you know if he had any brothers, and specifically a brother John? John was married to Hanora - and had at least 2 children with her; subsequently he seems to be married to Maria McLean, and had at least two more children. My great grandmother was born 1855 - which would lead me to think that if there's any connection, it's between our John and your Patrick. I'd be interested in any information you have on the Waters family.

Hi, I'm not sure if you'll get this reply since you posted almost 10 years ago but thought I would give it a shot. Not sure either if we are talking about the same exact Archibald, but most of the information fits.

My 4th great grandfather is an Archibald Waters who was born in Antrim, Ireland in 1782, came to America in 1816 and married Ruth Hathaway in Pennsylvania, and died in 1837. They had 7 sons and 2 daughters.

I've been trying to find information on him, specifically his parents names and if he had any siblings, but have been unable to find anything.

Julie Waters
jwaters.ancestry.search@gmail.com
I am trying to work back through the family to connect to Juriaen Thommase but there are so many in each family. I am adding as much as I can from the Van Ripen genealogy in the History of Passaic. The names split along the way as you know.

You are welcome to see my tree. Jesse Yereance is actually Jasper Jesse Yereance but he uses Jesse the second half of his life. If you google Jesse Yereance you can get the NY Times articles of his racing.

I have a lot of Waters ancestors from Kent, some of the information I have was gleaned from other public trees, but some is unsourced and I would love to have more definite records. If anyone knows anything about these, or earlier connected Waterses I would love to hear.
William(?) Waters (abt 1765 - ) (spouse unknown)
my 5th great grandfather. I don't have any source records for him. His son William Waters (1772 - ) m Susannah Jolly (1776 – 1816) and were my 4xg-grandparents. They were both from Canterbury and married there. I have their Pallots marriage index. They had several children who, as far as I know, were all born in Canterbury:

Maria Waters 1798 – (m William Baker)
John Waters 1802 –
Richard Waters (1804 - 1853)
Eliza Waters 1806 –
Mary Ann Waters 1808 –
Eleanor Waters 1811 – 1882 (poss m William Gunner or John Phillips)
George Frederick Waters 1813 –
Frances 1816 -

Their son Richard Waters (1804 - 1853) m Mary Ann (Vinten?) (1810 – 1890) she was from Orpington and they married at St Paul Cray. They are my 3xg-grandparents and I would love to have more records of their early lives (birth, baptism, marriage). I have a lot of sourced information on their later lives once they moved to London.

Their daughter Eliza Waters (1836 - 1921) was my 2xg-grandmother
I would love to hear from anyone with connections to any of these.

Dear Bradley, just found this message as I was, once again, seeking who the parents are of Richard W. Waters b. 1810 d. 1835 . Charles Dorsey Waters is the brother of my great grandfather, Richard F. Waters. They had one sister, maud. They are the children of Richard C. Waters b. 1835 d. 1914. I do know this is the same family, as Charles Dorsey ( whom they called Dorsey) was a musician in Maryland. Please contact me!
Leslie Waters

Re: Patrick Waters died 4 Sep 1909 in RR accident in Illinois in 1909

Barbara,

Your message about Patrick Waters death on September 4, 1909 was particularly interesting to me because my own great grandfather, Leason L. Waters, died in a railway accident on that very day. There's no connection, but it IS an odd coincidence. After years of research, I have been unable to unravel mysteries about my great grandfather's origins. On official documents, he claimed his parents to be Leason L. Waters Sr. and Martha Etheridge of Wilkinson County, Georgia. There's a wealth of information about the Etheridge side, but a blank on his father's history. His death was very sad. It was the day my grandmother, Marion Lee Waters, was orphaned at the age of eight. She was his daughter by a former marriage in East. St. Louis, Illinois.

For those who might find it interesting, here's the obituary of Leason L. Waters Jr.:

From the Rockwood Times, Emory Gap, Tennessee: XXIX, No. 37: Sep 1909.
Runaway cars at Retro Saturday results fatally. Men were shifting cars when they got beyond control and left the track on a curve. Chattanooga, Tenn. Sept. 4 -- Three men were killed, one seriously injured and three slightly hurt in a wreck on a spur track of the Cincinnati Southern railway at Retro, twenty-five miles north of Chattanooga this morning. The dead are L. L. Waters of Dayton, track supervisor, Herbert Vandergriff of Retro, Monroe Hickman of Retro, colored section hand. Albert Vandergriff was crushed under a car losing a leg. Fred Smith and Alfred Billingsly, the latter colored, were slightly injured. A section crew was assisting in coupling a long string of idle cars when some of them got away on a grade and ran down the men. A relief train was sent to Chattanooga with physicians and wrecking crew. L. L. Waters, one of the men killed in the accident, was well known to many people of Rockwood. At one time he was a foreman for the Brown Mining Co. at Cardiff. He resided at Emory Gap, at which place he was married to a daughter of Squire Delozier. Since entering the employ of of the Cincinnati Southern Mr. Waters has been promoted rapidly and at the time of his death held a responsible position with the road. The funeral and burial occurred at Emory Gap Sunday. It is said that Engineer Frank Day, a brother of T. W. Day of this city, was at Retro at the time and was asked to go upon the track where the cars were stored and bring them down with the engine. He refused, stating that the track was dangerous. Subsequent results proved he was correct in his belief.
"Three Killed Several Hurt."The Rockwood Times", Thursday 9 Sep 1909, Volume XXIX, No. 36. The funeral of L. L. Waters, who was killed at Retro while engaged with some others in moving some coal cars Saturday was held at Emory Park Monday afternoon. His pastor, Rev. C. O. Shugart of Dayton preached the sermon. Interment was made at the Delozier Cemetery near Emory Gap. Mr. Waters had charge of tie inspection from Oakdale to Chattanooga and resided at Dayton. His wife, formerly Miss Lucy (Susan) Delozier was visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Delozier at the time of her husband's death, so the remains were taken to Emory Gap. Besides his wife, Mr. Waters was steward in the M. E. church, South, at Dayton and his pastor speaks of him as a very faithful, helpful Christian man. He was very kind to his employees and popular with his employees. Mr. Waters was only thirth-five years old and it seems sad that so useful a man should be taken so early in life. The funeral was held under the auspices of Harriman Chapter, R.A.M. of which Mr. Waters was a member.
Waters in Pike Co, LIncoln Co, Perry Co and Jefferson Counties in MO 1800 on

THOMAS WATERS was born in 1805 in TN. He died after 1860 possibly in Perry Co, MO. He married LOUISA. She was born about 1821 in MO. She died after 1860. It is their son James 1855-1956 from Jefferson Co, MO (married Katheryn (Katie) Armbruster that is the line I am researching.

Thomas and Louisa appear in the 1860 Perry Co, MO census with their children Matilda, Lucinda, Louisa, Thomas, Ann and James. Joseph Spaulding and 2 year old Edgar Fox are also listed in the home. I am unable to locate any of them after 1860 other than Ann, who I believe MAY be the Allie in the 1870 Pike Co Census with James. The others just all seem to just disappear. I am thinking also that Louisa may have been a second marriage as there is quite an age difference between Matilda, Lucinda, Louisa and Thomas, then Ann and James. Who would have been the first wife?

Apparently both Thomas and Louisa died before 1870 as their son, James and (maybe)daughter Allie, were in the home of Daniel and Elizabeth (Bettie) Boon in Pike County, MO by 1870 and in 1880. Notes from the Boone GenWeb Forum from 2005 show that Daniel D was married in 1858 to Elizabeth Waters daughter of William and Catherine Waters of Lincoln Co. Mo. She was born in Fauquier Co. Va. they had no children. I am assuming that Elizabeth is Bettie. That info comes from an 1883 Pike Co Mo history, I believe. I believe that Thomas and this Elizabeth were brother and sister but have not been able to substantiate this nor have I found any information on William and/or Catherine Waters of Lincoln Co, MO. It has been thought that Louisa was a Boone but I believe now that the Boone connection was through Elizabeth. The 1880 Pike Co census lists James and Allie as niece and nephew to the Boone family.

There is a Thomas Waters mentioned in Goodspeed's History of Jefferson County where it states that “about the year 1800……..Thomas Waters …..settled on Sandy.” It is assumed that "Sandy" refers to a creek that is in Jefferson County. There is some thought that the father of Thomas (b 1805) was George but the only George I find is of the same age to be the brother of Thomas, rather than the father. Could the Thomas (1800) in Jefferson Co, MO early be related? James and Katie live out their lives in Jefferson Co.

Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Solomon and Priscilla Waters in Liverpool census 1891

Trying to unravel these parents of Maurice Waters (b 1891). Seems they married in 1889 with she being 10 or 12 years older than Solomon and apparently with older children also carrying the surname of Waters. Wondering if perhaps she was married to an older brother of Solomon first. Solomon is the son of Isaac (b 1826 in Poland). Unclear when he immigrated to Liverpool. Solomon has conflicting census reports on being born in Liverpool (no record yet found) or in Poland. Two of Priscilla's older sons, Rudolph b 1880 and Israel "Frank" b 1883, emigrated to Philadelphia in early 1900s.

I am in no way related to the Waters family, so I cannot answer any questions about them. I simply found this in our local paper and have uploaded it only to help fellow researchers.
