I'm Brenda Watling daughter of dale Watling. His father is Glen Watling, he came from Michigan his siblings are Wayne Phyllis Gary and David. His parents are Howard and Mary Rice. I don't have much more to go off of because my grandpa (Glen) doesn't seen to remember anything in his older age. I do have a letter he gave me that he received many years ago written by Art Watling on Oct 15 1935 talking about his family from England. But their aren't many names, and I cant find out who Art is related to me. Could anyone help me? I am going to post a copy of the letter from Art Watling to Ann

Re: JUBAL WATLING AND SUSAN LEACH

Jubal born 1790, in Brockdish, Norfolk, and married Susan Leach November 10, 1814 in Metfield, Suffolk, England. Susan was born in 1792 and died in 1829, in England. I have not found a date of death for Jubal. They had 9 children - all born in Syleham, Suffolk, England. It appears that Jubal and children immigrated to Canada following Susan's death. Jubal is my great-great-great grandfather. I have information on their children regarding dates of birth, marriage, and death if you don't already have them.

Looking for Watlings in Charlottetown, PEI

I am trying to find everything I can about Watlings on PEI. My ancester, Jubal Watling, settled there with his family in June 1830. All of the children left PEI (including my ancestor, Jubal Jr.), but he married a second time and had another family, which included at least two sons, Charles Watling (who married Sarah Jane Bell - d/o Joseph and Charlotte) and Henry, who was always single and still living on the Island in 1901 (then a servant for the Coffin family).
I know Charles and Sarah had several children, but after Sarah's death they were spread about and he later remarried to Elizabeth? One daughter, May, married a Turner and lived in the US. Another son, Wm. Ambrose, lived in BC. There was also an Evelyn (b 1889) and an Elsie (b 1886).
Help please! I have checked what is available online thru the PEI Archives.

Leslie's dad was William Watling brother to Albert Henry and his mum was Edith May Fricker sister to Mayble Fricker. I guess that makes you and my husband (Keith) second cousins. Keith was born 3 July 1957. Sadly we lost Leslie on 27 November 2010.

Enjoy you holiday and I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Regards Dianne

Then, I found his birthplace listed as Blundeston, Suffolk Co. in the 1851 census.
I am wondering if this is the one and the same James Godbold (with some family later listed as Gorbold) that I see in your Rootsweb Family info entitled:
"James Godbold - Mary Watling and descendants"

Part of my wife's family tree goes back to these folks, as far as we can determine!
Please let me know if you can share any other info on this very interesting family.

Regards,
Len & Yvette Maz

Would it be OK if I copied some of the information?

My Warner ancestors (Lydia married a Robert Warner) lived in Ashfield-cum-Thorpe for a while, before they moved to Preston, Lancashire, England, where I'm from. Some Clark relatives emigrated to Rhode Island, USA and some Scowcroft relatives (a Clark married a Scowcroft) emigrated to the eastern US and Ontario, Canada.

Your reference to Cretingham may provide a lead on the origin of the Godbold family. I have looked at microfilm from Blundeston with no luck on earlier families. I am going to check out Cretingham microfilm to see if any earlier generations can be found. Family history suggested we were from Bungay, but no trace there was ever found. My non-imigrant ancestors William Godbold and Sarah Beck are buried in a church cemetery in Blundeston Parish, Suffolk, England. Our family is on Rootsweb too, Check out Godbold/ Watling for Lydia's brothers/sisters if you are interested.

I know this original post was along time ago, but I do have this family, along with Sarah Watling's family (Sarah being a several times great aunt of mine). I believe I have significantly mapped out all the members of this Watling branch which originated in Darsham with Sarah's father John being the primary immigrant.

Thankyou for the information Ken. I checked the LDS Social Security list and it has just about the same information plus it gives a birthdate of Dec 15 in 1935. Patricia has no computer and is now on vacation but would still be interested in locating her sister Norma Grace Watling. Norma Grace also has a married name of Smith but no relation to Patricia's husband. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

David, I spoke with Pat, she is pretty convinced that her brother John Carlisle Watling died in Sarasota Fl in 1982, she has the death certificate and his wife at that that time was a Jeanette. But she does remember he married a Sue Knight about 1961. They had a daughter whose name started with an M. They divorced, Pat does not know when. Sue Knight had a brother, Pat thinks was named Gradon. Hope this is helpful.

Dear Katherine,

Thank you for your response to my posting. I would love to see what you have on the Watling family.

David Watling's parents were John and Philena (Dryer). Per the 1870 Census John was a painter, Philena was a House Keeper. John was born in England and she was born in Michigan. He was 47 years old at the census, she was 31. Their son Allen D was 13. Philena's parents were David P and Emily Dryer, they were 43 and 39 per the 1850 Census. They lived in Bath Township, Clinton County, Michigan. Their children were Isaac, 16, Philena, 12, Allen, 10 and Delia 4.

Thank you for sharing.

Susan Stitt (SusanLSt@aol.com)
I am married to Evan Stitt, grandson of Esther Watling.

I have just started researching Watlings in Washtenaw. My link is husband's grandmother was Esther Lenore Watling, daughter of Emma and David Watling. Esther was born in 1903. Any information will be appreciated.

Susan Stitt

Thank you for your interest & I am sorry for not replying sooner. I am hoping to find someone who recognizes a Watling relationship to Mary Jane Watling, born 25 Mar 1841& parents John Watling & Charolette (?) who emigrated to the Niagara Peninsula area, Ontario Canada. Mary Jane Watling married a John George Grant in 1861& subsequently moved to Essex County, Ontario, Canada.
GHT

I have the Watling lines back to 1690's in England; our Great Grandfathers were second cousins. Email if you want more info.

jskocy@comcast.net
