You have a marriage record for Carrie and Jacob?? I've been looking for such things for a long time.
I am not sure Carrie's mother's maiden name was Wayt. I will have to go back through my research to see how I got that information.
I do know that Carrie remarried JAMES Glazier, a widowed minister from Orchard, Mesa County, Colorado. I can't recall (but I will look) if they followed Carrie's son, Bert, to San Diego but I know some of the family was there. My dad grew up there.
Carrie died in Stockton, CA on Oct 06, 1952. She was Carrie Glazier when she died. I never heard she was married for a third time.
Carrie had a daughter named Carrie Hill Strome who married Paul Freese. Sometimes these two get mixed up, I think.
I would love a copy of the marriage record for Carrie and Jacob. I have pictures of the two of them.
Thanks,
Marty

Marty. How sure are you that Carrie's mother's maiden surname was WAYT? The marriage record of Carrie and Jacob provides that Carrie's mother's maiden surname was WAIL. What appears to be Carrie's death record in California provides her mother's maiden surname as BERGER.

Carrie's first husband was Jacob T. Strome, a widower, whom she married on 15 Feb 1883 in Harlan County NE.

Apparently Jacob died in or about 1922 and Carrie remarried Charles William Glazier, also a widower, in or about 1923. By the 1930 census, Carrie and Charles were in San Diego CA. Charles died in San Diego on 12 Jun 1933.

Apparently after Charles died, Carrie remarried for the third time, marrying _____ McKay.

I believe she is the Carrie McKay in the CA Death Index who died in Los Angeles on 17 Feb 1946, was born in Iowa on 20 Nov 1865, whose father's surname was Hill and accoding to the index, whose mother's maiden suranme was BERGER.

Tom Ross
San Diego CA
tross666@san.rr.com

John C. Fierst (1898-1948), one of my father's first cousins, was married to a Gladys Strome (1905-1935) when she died. They did not have children. I am in contact with one of Gladys' granddaughters from a previous marriage.

I believe that Gladys is a descendant of Samuel Strome (1803-1866) and Mary A. Eckerd (1805-1884) as follows:

Samuel and Mary
to
Jonas Strome (1828-xxxx) and Mary Ann Thuma/Hurna (1834-xxxx)
to
Jacob Strome (1856-xxxx) and Angeline McGarvey (1859-1881)
to
James Harry Strome (1878-1952) and Viola Lena Stephens (1882-1911)
to
Gladys A. (Strome) (Sayre) (Owens) Fierst (1905-1935)

I suspect that the above Jacob Strome is the Jacob Strome in this thread. The above Jacob Strome was born in 1856 in Perry Township, Richland County, Ohio. The above Jacob Strome married Angeline McGarvey from neighboring Washington Township in or about 1877. They moved to Harlan County, Nebraska, in or before 1878. Their son James Harry was born there in 1878. Jacob, Angeline and Harry appear in Harlan County on the 1880 census. Apparently, Angeline died between 1880 and 1882 and Jacob remarried, marrying Carrie Hill. On the 1900 census, Jacob, Carrie and family appear in Oklahoma. On the 1910 census, they appear in Colorado; this census reports that Jacob's marriage to Carrie was his second marriage.

I request anyone who can confirm or rule out the above info or who is interested in exchanging info contact me.

Tom Ross
San Diego CA
direct email: tross666@san.rr.com

Hi Greg,

Raymond and William Wayts' father is my grandfather and his name is Charles Raymond Wayt !!! Grandmas' name is Rebecca Jane (Nolan) Wayt who is Charles' wife. By the way grandpa had a sign on the outside of the house that read C R Wayt
I remember this sign!! I don't remember grandpa, but I do remember grandma Wayt. Her bathroom (fond memory) smelled great with the ivory soap. Homemade noodles on Sundays when my father used to visit her on week-ends. We used to cross the ferry boat on the Ohio river, was very afraid of the water.

Have you a way to help locate Elsie Mae Wayt? I've not met her, but would like to and have her visit with my father.
I dearly love my father, he is my best friend even when I was a child and will alway be my best friend.

Thank-you for responding to this request.

Judy

DNA profiles are needed by any Wayte name variation and can be arranged through the Waitegenealogy.org site where Sue Waite-Langley has posted many other profiles. We now have a number of lines documented with DNA but there are still lines with questions.

We are especially looking for descendents of John Waits of Hampshire Co. WVA, SC Wait lines, and Wait lines from England.
Riverview Cemetery Charlottesville, VA

I recently visited Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, VA and noticed some 1800s stones all very close together with family names of Wayt and Winn. I took some pictures but not all are legible. Some of the names are:

Charles Mercer Wayt (son of Twyman and May Wayt)

Cynthia Kelly Wayt (wife of John G. Wayt)

The info on the stones is unfortunately VERY difficult to read in the pictures I took and I did not take any notes of data on the stones. Some of the stones are even half-way buried under the ground. I do have pictures tho if anyone is researching this line.
I believe the 'Clifford' Wayt you are referring to is one Gerald Clifford Wayt (b. 7-2-1929) to Clifford Hezikiah and Susan Navilla Zikeb Wayt (m. 3-17-1928). Although there could be more children I am not aware of, I do have a brother, Glen Curtis (b. 3-29-1932, d. 3-19-1981), and a sister, Gloria Sue (b. 4-1-1944). A check of the 1930 census for Jackson County, IN (Pershing Twp., District 16) lists 'Gerald C.' as this son. Hope this helps!

Most of the Wayt clan found in Wetzel County descend from Andrew Jackson Wayt (1839-1922). He is listed 1850/1860 census Tyler County; 1870/1880/1900/1910 census of Wetzel. Andrew Jackson was s/o Andrew B., s/o Joseph, s/o Andrew of Washington County, PA. Andrew Jackson served in Civil War, Company "C", 15 Infantry WV Volunteers. He was married to Mary A. Wilson and the1900 census states they had 12 children, 10 still living. Tell me your earliest proven ancestor and I will try to match them with my info.

Amy,
Hi, My father was Clifford Chester Wayt Born 1924 to Rose and Edward Wayt. He entered the Navy and married sometime in the 40's, He married a lady name Betty, they had a son named Clifford D. Wayt. he then moved back to Indiana after they divorced. He married my mom Patricia Wayt I have two sisters older then me. I am 42. The oldest is 50. It is possible that your father in law was my half brother we have been looking for. He had called my sister a few years ago,but she can't remember where he lived. We would love to know if there is a connection. Do you have pictures. It seems that some traits on wayt side are tall, thin, although his brother Glen was short and pudgy, so go figure. Hope to hear from you. by the way, my dad died at the age of 37. But it was of suicide. hope to hear from you. Donna

My grandfather was Dr. Hugh Wayt. he had a sister Elsie Wayt Dakan. Dr Hugh Wayt was a pastor to the Christ of Christ in Ohio (various churches). He was married to Mary Lockart. She died in the late 1920's, I believe. Dr Hugh Wayt remarried Inez ?. Later they divorced. He had three sons from his first marriage; Lockart, Hugh Wilson (my father), and William Llewellyn (Lew). Dr Wayt was born in Glen Easton WVA July 8, 1887and died in Moundsville, VA Nov 30, 1953. He was living with Elsie Wayt Dakan at the time of his death.

Elsie was also a twin to Bessie Wayt Carmichael according to an article in the local newspaper (I have a copy).

I remember some mention of Dr. Wayt having a special shoe because of polo at a young age.

I am just starting to hunt for my ancestry of the Wayt family. I believe Dr Wayt's father was Henry A. Wayt married to Rachel J. Wilson. If you have any information about this branch of the Wayt family I would really appreciate your input.

Dr. Hugh Wayt had four sisters; Elsie Wayt Dakan, Bessie Wayt Carmichael (twins); Gertie Wayt Gamble (twin to Ross B Wayt), and (Catherine ?) I.B. Wayt Yeater. I know there was a brother Ross B. Wayt and possibly a Dennis E. Wayt. The obit for Dr. Hugh Wayt did not mention Dennis E. only Ross B.

Please let me know what you might have.

Thanks, Jo

Wayts in Indiana

My Wayts came from Indiana and before that OH and PA. Probably we are related.
I don't have Chester in my files, but have many other Wayts from Indiana. I'm not presently at home but would be happy to look them up later and send to you. Do you know anything about Chester? i. e. When was he born? Where?

Samuel U. Wayt

I am the grandson of Samuel U. Wayt who was born in1884 in Jackson, Indiana. He moved to Bellingham, Washington and married a Susan Daisey Murray around 1910. They had a son Leonard Lee Wayt (my father) in 1913, and shortly after that Samuel and Susan divorced. I can find no record of him after that. The spelling of the name Wayt was changed to Waite prior to 1929. If anybody has any information please contact me. I have some information to share.
