Milo and Ruth Webster

I am looking for information on Milo Webster from Ireland who married Amy Olmstead (Almstead) from New York. I don't have any other information on them other than their daughter is Ruth Ann (1817-1904). Ruth is my 3rd Great Grandmother and was born in Canada and died in Michigan. She married Timothy Simmons and had at least 9 children, one of whom was my 2nd great grandmother Sarah Catherine Simmons who married George Washington Widrig - (I am a Widrig). I have found Ruth's death certificate online and that is how I know her parents names and places of birth. However, I have been unable to find out anything else about them and would really love to be able to continue researching this family line. I appreciate any help anyone can give! - Lorin

Re: JOHN WEBSTER, b. 1810 New Jersey NOT FRANCIS EDON

Dave, just received your private message and am hopping onto this thread too. I also have suspected for a while that the Thomas next door to John in 1830 in Morgan is the father, but of course that is an assumption. I'm equally stumped as to the NJ thing - it comes originally, I think, from Samuel Bates' History of Greene County, Pennsylvania (1888). On page 601 of that book, in the entry on Samuel Webster (John's son and my 2nd-great-grandfather), it says: "He is a son of John and Elizabeth (Cowell) Webster. The former was a native of New Jersey, and the latter of Greene County, Penn., where they were married and remained until about the year 1868, at which point they moved to Iowa, where Mr. Webster departed this life." On page 761, in the entry on Joseph Webster (another son), it also names John's birthplace as NJ. Of course Bates doesn't cite this information. But all census records name Pennsylvania as his birth place. Both sources are secondary for birth place, so I'm not sure what to think.

(Reginald) Godfrey 1860-1913 was chaplain to the Lord Lt. of Ireland when he died. He lived at 26 Hatch Street, Dublin with his wife who d. in 1926. I have tried the 1911 Irish census, but nothing came up. I do not know if they had any children. This is pre the fire in which Irish records were destroyed. Has anyone any other ideas asto how I might try and trace this family? AlisamondL

I think he was born in Alabama in 1819, married Nancy (Helmick?) from Virginia, and lived and died in the Nashville, TN area. Supposedly buried in Spring Hill Cemetery (Nashville). Are you my cousin?
Update: Definitely in Spring Hill Cemetery. Confirmed his wife's name is Nancy(Nancie) Helmick per the Tennessee death records of his son John Taylor Webster who died in 1909.
Still need to know who his family in Alabama is.

Looking for any updates on Richard Webster, Sr. Have been trying to find documentation on his immigration, his first marriage, and information on John's wife. If Richard Webster was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, I found documentation from the Scotland archives of his birth, parents Alexander and Elspit and also Alexander's parents, Alexr and Isabell Moore (possibly). Can't find anything on his imm in 1699. I did find a book, Colonial Families of the Eastern Shore, Vol 14 showing James Charlescraft m. Anne and his death stated as April 22, 1717 which makes me agree that Richard Jr was probably the child of Richard Sr and Ann Harding not Anne Charlescraft. Any new info would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email me at llwebster@verizon.net

Encouraging male Webster's to have their DNA tested for genealogical purposes

A Webster DNA project has been established and this is already yielding some interesting results. Those tested must be males with the Webster surname. It would be most helpful if you could test for 37 markers, as there are some unique markers for some Websters in the 25-37 marker range. Not sure what Ancestry is offering right now, but I know Family Tree DNA has a sale going through the end of the year (just a few more days).

Here is a link to the site.

http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/webster/

In particular, I am interested in results from lines that can trace back to Virginia. We have a grouping of Webster, Atkins and Reynolds families that are genetically connected and it would be good to see where the other Webster's fit in. I believe the above mentioned families will tie back to the Webster's of Goochland County, VA (e.g., Nathaniel Webster and his ancestors), but we lack a conclusive paper trail to prove that connection.

So yay. :-)

This is some of my family....
The wabash-Erie Canal went into Piegeon creek & ended up in Evansville at the corner of 1st ave & Old Division St. There use to be a water fountain for horses to water near or very close to market st. I can still see it in my mind.
It was brownish & round. At this time that neighborhood still has Willard Library next to it.
There use to be a farmers market there every week.
Since I was born in Evansville, I can tell you pigeon creek runs a lot of places, it comes off the Ohio River at the Maryland St Bridge area downtown.
It then runs all around Evansville-McCutchinville & some toward the Wabash Earie Canal toward I 64.
The creek has some feeds that goes toward Chandler Indiana & other places.
I live in Spencer County so we have some of the pigeon creek toward us too.
So when you ask about that paticular creek & the time period you are asking about must have been the south west part of Evansville from downtown & in the area near the ohio river. However..all the familys mentioned were mostly west siders. & sometime you can find other info in Boonville Indiana as Warrick County has some of Evansville information originally because of Sales & such.

I can find no use of the name "Edon" anywhere, but lots of Eatons.

So, now we have Thomas Jr. M fnu Eaton with at least 3 children. Francis Eaton Webster, Schulyer Webster and John Webster. make sense??

Also... Thomas Jr. and Thomas could be brothers, not f & s. that happened earlier in Delaware.

Dave

Her name was Jane Green Hudson. I've done some work on this one but it's a tough puzzle. I've had her marriage to Caleb documented by the Huguenot Society. In actuality, I'm not sure if her maiden name was Green and she married a Hudson and then Caleb or possibly Green was her mother's maiden name. But I really don't know. I have her born in SC abt 1812 and died in Thomasville, GA 27 Feb 1879. She had 5 children by Caleb (Elizabeth, Sarah, Hester, Louise (my line), an Martha. After Caleb died in Mexico, she married John Scott and a son Thomas. There may have been more. I would appreciate the information you have on Elizabeth's descendants.
