Rene,
I don't have a marriage date for George and Anna, but their first child (that I know of) was born in 1888. Cora Whallon (Anna's sister) married J. Berkley IRVIN or IRVINE. George and Anna seem to have named 2 of their sons after him. I've been searching forever for more information on George Wedmore and Anna's family. I'm stuck on her father. I know that Anna's parents were John. G. Whallon and Mary Jane (Mollie) Estill. Where do your Whallon's fit in?

Anna E. Whallon b1868-1870 married George Wedmore and died 1931 in Lexington, KY. I only have 7 of the 12 children you list. John, George, Robert, Jesse, William, Irvin. Anna Whallon's sister married J. Berkley before 1903. I need a marriage date and place for George and Anna if you have it.
Thanks, Rene Whallon Woll

Hi Mary...I saw your posting and thought maybe you might know who I am looking for. Her name is Marjorie Wedmore born about 1916. She married Lawrence A Steele on 3/9/1936 in Pennington County South Dakota. Lawrence was originally from Charles Mix County SD. I think him and Marjorie may have met in Charles Mix and then married and lived in Pennington County. They had two children Bonnie and Beverly Steele. If you have any information on who her family might be, I would sure appreciate it. Sincerely Bonnie tysonalexander2@hotmail.com

i have just found this information on the wedmore family. my husband's grandmother lula frances was a wedmore. when i met her, she was already suffering with alzheimers. the only things she could communicate to me about the family was that she had two brothers, james and arthur? i do know her father's name was arthur and he married a jessie willoughby. i know that she was born either in louisville or lexington ky and lived there for most of her life before moving to chicago where her father became a cab driver. she talked about an aunt cora. i am not sure if aunt cora was maternal or paternal. lula was married in chicago to a collins warner. if anybody can provide any more information on the wedmore's it would sincerely be appreciated.

it seems a bit odd to reply to my own message. however upon reading some of the older messages, i found some information nancy had supplied regarding her family. i have more information regarding nancy's great-uncle arthur and his family. i just happen to have married into this branch. arthur wedmore was my husband's great-grandfather. his wife was jessie willoughby, they had three children, lula frances, james and i believe arthur. lula was my husband's grandmother. i anxiously await any reply from any branches of this wedmore family. so very little is known about his family. we do have some copies of funeral guestbooks for i believe arthur, possibly jessie and maybe arthur's mother, anna whallon wedmore.

She experienced alot in her 97 years....
My dad re broke his hip in October 2000. He is in a nursing facility now, being very grumpy, but doing okay. Dad always speaks fondly about you. I will give him your regards. You can contact me any time...so very sorry to hear of your husbands death. Doesn't make the holidays very merry.
Regards, Judy

Hello. I have had some problems with my computer and it does not always do what I want it to, I finally called in an "expert" and he said something was wrong and corrected the problem so think I will be OK now.

I am sure John told you of Margie (mom) Wedmores death - had not reached her 97th birthday. I had built a 4 room bath apartment on side of my house and took care of her as best I could until she had a stroke and confined to bed. She decided herself that I could not lift or handle her so she was put in a 'Rest Home' and just lived another month. In the meantime my husband (2nd) had died so I live alone now and am doing very well.

Frances lives next door and Bill lives about 2 miles away. Wanda husband will be coming in tomorrow will stay about 1 week or 10 days - - so Margie's children will all be together and will give a atoast to her.

I would like to hear from you and John
Finally got my computer up and running again, it was really a simple problem but I did not know how to work it out so called in an "expert" who was here 3 hours and it is apparently OK now.

How are you related to Nick Wedmore? I may show you in my book.

Nick was not his given name but he used it all the time, the correct name was "Harmond Nickolas "Nick" Wedmore. Born 11 March 1877, died 28 December 1958 at Woodburn, Marion County, Oregon.

He was the 15th child of John Arthur Wedmore born in Highland County, Ohio 12 January 1829 and died 11 August 1911 in Mapleton, Monona County, Iowa.

He was the grandson of John Wedmore born sometime between 1775 1790 in Virginia and died under strange circumstances - He is shown in the 1840 Census - not sure where his death occurred as the book recording all this is missing from the courthouse - - It appears that he might have been murdered. But cannot locate grave, obituary, newspaper item or any document, in fact I get no information from the county records, however, the local genealogical society sent the marriage information on several of his children.

If you need more please contact me via e-mail.

I was so sorry to hear about John (your father) I passed the information on to the rest of the family. We all loved John & Nadine. I did not know about his death until you wrote, would have liked to send flowers had I known.

The Wedmore's are still around. I am working on our "Blair" family My grandmother and your great-grandmother was Sarah Jane Blair - married John Wedmore. Have her genealogy back to Runnel Blair b. ca 1750 in Somerset Co., NJ and wife Charity Southard. I cannot prove this but think his father and mother were John Blair b. abt 1720 possibly in Scotland and Jane Runnell.

Will let you know if I can prove anything else. Going back that far is somewhat difficult.

"Nick" Wedmore of Yankton, S.D.

Harmond Nikolas "Nick" Wedmore was born ll March 1877 near Moulton, Appanoose County, Iowa and died at Woodburn, Marion County, Oregon 28 Dec 1958. He was the 15th child of John A. Wedmore and Permelia C. Sapp.

Nick married Mary Edith Muckey who was a "girlfriend" of my grandfather (John Wedmore) until he met my grandmother Sarah Jane Blair. Sarah had been the "girlfriend" of Nicks brother before they moved to Yankton. According to my information Nick and Mary had 12 children: Alfred, Charles, Foster, Emila, Emma, Edith, Louella, Leo, Mary, Kenneth, Lyle & Joyce.

I published a Wedmore Book in 1990 and am now trying to bring it up to date, make correctons and possibly publish Vol II (a lot has happened in 11 years).

If I can be of further help let me know.

Wedmore Location

Having seen earlier comments, I felt that I had to reply:-

Wedmore is the name of a village in Somerset which is a county in the south west of England. Under no stretch of the imagination could it be described as a city. Wedmore is not in Wales, nor has it ever been and it is not one of the Channel Islands - yes I have seen it described that way. It is in a very low lying, flat, once marshy area of moorland once known as the Isle of Wedmore - hence the confusion.

The word Isle in this context is an ancient English word which should not be confused with island and describes an area which might well be flooded in the winter months. Wedmore itself is on slightly higher ground and would avoid any serious flooding.

Wedmore is about 17 miles south and a little to the west of Bristol which is the largest city in the region and would probably be 20 miles away by road. Cheddar is about four miles away towards Bristol and famous for its cheese. Wells would be the nearest town 8 miles to the east. Much of the surrounding area is only 20 feet [6 metres] above sea level. The area is mainly agricultural.

Regards,

Geoff

Virginia, where are you located now? How is your Wedmore book coming along? I would be interested in hearing more, whatever information you have. Nick Harmon, or as you said Harmond Nikolas, was my great grandfather. One of his sons, the one you listed as Lyle, actually was Nick Lyle, my grandpa. My father and brother are both Nicks also. So does this make us distant cousins? :o) Hope to hear from you.

Hi, Kristi--good to hear from you again! I'm clueless when it comes to geography--thanks for the history lesson!! Anyway, what I know of my Wedmore ancestors doesn't go back very far. I have the name, Syndia Morgan, who married an unknown Wedmore male and gave birth to my great-grandfather, George Wedmore, in June of 1865. I have conflicting information as to where George was born. Some say he was born in Kentucky, others say he was born in Georgia, Tennessee or Indiana. I do know that he died in Muncie, Indiana in 1939 and is buried in Midway, Kentucky. This George Wedmore grew up and married an Ann (or Anna) Whallon (or Whallon) and together they had at least 12 children. Info. that I have on George's wife, Anna, indicate that she was born in Kentucky in 1870. The names of their children were: John, Arthur, Davis (or David), Jake, Cora, George, Robert, Jesse (my grandfather), William, Hiram, Berkley (or Bentley) and Irvin. These last two were twins. Several of these Wedmore's are buried in Midway, KY, along with some of Anna's ancestors, the Whallon's (or Whalen). Don't know if we share any connection--as I said, I've never come across the name NICK Wedmore. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon. Take care--Nancy

Hi Nancy, thanks for the reply. I remembered after I had sent the last message that the boundaries of wales and england had changed. I believe that originally my family came from Wales, but with the boundary changes the city of Wedmore is now in England.
We have a book on Wedmore's, which I am trying to get from my uncle. If you tell me who your ancestors are again, I will look in the book and see if there is any info on them. Take care and God Bless, Kristi

Hi, Kristi!
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you--wish I could do this kind of stuff full-time!! Anyway, Cheddar is in England, I don't think there's another one in Wales. I don't believe that there are any Nick Wedmore's on my side, although I know so little that anything is possible. My family is from Kentucky and Indiana as far as I know. This woman, Virginia, who also posts messages here, seems to have info. on your side of the family but not much on mine. She said she wrote a book on the Wedmore's, but didn't respond when I asked her where I might find or buy a copy of it. I don't like to give out my address or anything over the computer, so I guess I'll just plug along on my own. If I come across anything new, I'll let you know. Hope you'll do the same. My grandfather was Nick Lyle Wedmore, great-grandfather was Nick Harmon Wedmore. They were from S. Dakota in the black hills I believe. Where is your family from again?
