I do not know if I can help, we have many spellings of our name Weedon, but none spelled Wheeldon. However, if you think it could be one of the spellings, I am more than happy to help, as it will also help me. My record states on two wives for John T. (1st wife - Ellen Nora, 2nd wife - Jennie(Virginia)

Martha's sister was married to J.B. Weedon senior and died in child birth before my great grandfather was born. They had a daughter named Jane (Janie). Their first child was my grandfather so they had to be married prior to 1895. Martha raised her neice as her own. After my grandfather, Bucky, the other 4 children born to them: Veola Weedon, Fairfax (Faxie) Weedon, Lucy Weedon and Alice Weedon Posey. These people ran the post office and the general store right at Weedonville in King George. (They lived the old post office, which is sadly in horrible decay now.)

I need to get to my records in the attic after Christmas. I think I am leaving out a generation between John and Lucy and J.B. Weedon Sr.

My grandmother was born in 1895..........I am only 48 but I remember her well. She lived with us and what an angel she was. I knew the Howards on her side very well. Her father (William) also had a brother named Bayham. Bayham was married to my grandmothers cousin, Ida Lumpkin Howard. They had 9 kids (who we always called aunt and uncle). They produced double first cousins. Bayham and Ida named one of those children, Edward, whom I called Uncle Eddie. I have to suppose Uncle Eddie was named after your direct ancestor.

After Christmas, I'll dig in my attic and let you know what else I found. It was pretty extensive.

Melissa

Thanks for your reply. This is what I have on John T. Weedon.
John T. Weedon b 9 Apr 1807 marr 1st Ann Mariah Vanness 25 Jul 1836 in Westmoreland Co. John was the son of Augustine Gustavus Weedon & Susannah ( Susan ) Jones.( need parents & siblings for them ) Ann was the dau of Benjamin Vanness b 28 Apr 1793 & Delia Bishop b 9 Jul 1793. ( don't have their parents or siblings either.
John T. marr 2nd Lucinda ( Lucy Ann ) Oliver 7 Jun 1853. She was the dau of John D. Oliver & Margaret Burchell. ( need their paretns & siblings too. I have James T. Weedon being b abt 1875 & marr Martha Staples abt 1895. Are these dates wrong? Was he b earlier? I based this date on the fact that James Jr. was b 8 Jun 1895. If John T. marr Lucinda in 1853 I think it is unlikely that James Sr. is their son. I don't have any children for John & Lucinda but think that if they had a son he could be the father of James. Let me know what you think.
Ollie

My grandfather and grandmother were Kate Howard Weedon and Bucky (James Buchanon Weedon). Their 8 children were: Helen Catherine (1915-1930), Bernard (1918-1997), Ray Leonard (1927-1996), Eva (1929-present), Joseph Kenneth (1930 to present), Leroy Jerome (my beloved father/1934-2008), Franklin Delano (1937-200?), Jerome Howard (1939-present).

I am named after Lizzie Melissa Lumpkin as cited in your thread who was Kate Howard Weedon's mother. Kate's father was indeed William Thomas Howard. Her sisters were Eva Howard Loeffler and Hattie Belle Howard Young.

Kate's husband (my grandfather), James Buchanon Weedon, Jr. parent's were Martha Staples Weedon and James Buchanon Weedon, Sr. James Buchanon Weedon, Sr died in 1939. Their other children were Veola Weedon, Fairfax (Faxie) Weedon, Lucy Weedon and Alice Weedon Posey. They resided at Weedonsville in King George county. There was one more daughter, Janie Weedon who was the progeny of James Buchanon Weedon Sr and Martha Weedon's sister. When she died around 1890, (she is buried in Dogue Virginia), Mr. Weedon married Martha.

I too am a decendant from James William & Elizabeth Nottle. My Great Grandfather was Henry Weedon born 24th May 1862 in Prahan, Victoria. James, Henrietta, Jane and Henry were the four children of Elizabeth Nottle. Henry married Elizabeth Mary Richards and they had three daughters, Ethel 1895, Alice 1899 (my grandmother) and Ruby 1901. They were born in Albury, so had moved to NSW from Victoria.
My Granmother told me when we moved to Castlemaine, Vic in 1985 that her grandfather had owned a hotel here. I have never checked that possibility out as I did not know his name until now, and did not know he was a Grocer and Hotelier. Henry Weedon lived in Lockhart NSW and is listed on Electoral rolls as a farmer.
My grandmother married Harold Cross Howard and they had my mother in 1922. She married Arthur George Whitehead and they had four of us Children in Gosford, NSW. My grandmother and mother died in Dubbo, but I am not too sure of the year Gma died. I think around 1990 and Mum in 1998. There are only two of us left now. I have a sister in Dubbo and myself Joyce Pym in Castlemaine, Victoria. We came here to work on a property, all these years I have been a so called Blow In, and now I find out my ancestors were in the area well before me. Sir Henry had a mining dredge here as well.
I have been in contact with Bev Danby, her ancestors also lived in and around here.
It is all very interesting and a big pity that our ancestors did not keep in touch. I do not even know of any of my Mums cousins and there were some.
I hope I have not bored you and that you were interested to find some more of us out here.
Sincerely. Sir Henry Weedon was my GGGF, his surviving son must have been my GGF and his daughter Alice Weedon was my Grandmother, she was born in Melbourne 1st August, 1899. At a later date they moved to NSW. Leichardt area.
She told me her grandfather had been Mayor of Melbourne and that he had built the Melbourne Town Hall, I know he did not actually build it, although he placed the foundation stone for an annex, which is still standing today. She also said he had built a hotel in Castlemaine, but I am yet to find that. His Bio did say he had a dredge in Castlemaine though. She was quiet elderly when she told me this, when we moved here in 1985. My grandmother had at least two sisters, but I have to get their names hopefully from my sister. My mother has passed away as well and I am only just starting the search. I thought my GGF was Henry Weedon also, although the records have Alfred Henry.
Just thought you might like to know there are more ancestors out here. Yours sincerely, Joyce Pym

Dear Muriel
My name is Bev Danby. In reading your reply to Kye re Sir Henry Weedon's family - Vic BDM list 3 children born to Henry & Emily Ellard.
Alfred Henry born 1884 in Carlton #22918
Percy born 1881 in Carlton #14605 and dying at 8 weeks #6801
Elsie Muriel born 1887 in Carlton #9543 and dying at 9 months #822
One of my cousins writes that there was a big write-up of Sir Henry's son's marriage in one of the newspapers many years ago, not sure which one, even listing all the wedding presents. Maybe it was Alfred who married and then outlived his father.
Hope this is of interest.
Regards
Bev
If Raymond Weedon was living in NW Oklahoma at one time, he is a brother to my grandfather Jesse Lee. It has been awhile since you posted your request, if you are still interested, please email me. Zachery Taylor Weedon would have been their grandfather. Frances Marion was a twin son of Zachery Taylor and Emma Weedon.

Hello Kye, I do aploogize for my tardiness in replying to your Weedon Query. I am still getting over Christmas.

My email address is mwmarketing@acenet.com.au

My Weedon ancetors are of the same family as Sir Henry.
James William Weedon is my GG Grandfather is the brother of Henry the father of Sir Henry.

Henry Weedon had only two children Percy and Elsie Muriel. I believe they died at about ages one in both cases.
Although his Bio. states he is survived by a son from his first marriage. I have not been able to find any records of a son other than Percy who was born and died in 1881.
Are you very familiar with Sir Henry, I know losts about him. If you "Google" Henry Weedon you will
get a one page Bio on him.

I get great joy when crossing Swamston Street in Melbourne and seeing hi name on the foundation stone
of the Melbourne Town Hall.

My G Grandmother was a daugther of James William Weedon, she married William Steet. Now this brings me to your name line! James William Weedon and Eliza Hasler had sons named William and Thomas. They would be half brothers of my G G,M Jane Weedon. William was born in 1867. Thomas was born in 1870.

Let me know how much you know about this family. I would be happy to share information with you.

I was very close to my Grandmother the daughter of Jane Weedon.

I live in Bowral, but visit Melbourne. These Weedons all lived in Melbourne and around Victoria they were Hoteliers and Grocers. The Steets and the Weedons were all closely involved in various businesses in Victoria.

For a long time now I have been meaning to investigate the migration of Weedons to NSW as I know some of the
Steets came to the area around Orange etc in the 1890's. Some of them lost their "socks" as we say, during the great drought. It seems wherever there were "Steets" there were "Weedons". If this is the same family name we may get further information from NSW records.

Your Three names, William, Thomas and Henry all are common names to my Weedon line. I hope this helps. I would be most grrateful of any news.

James and his brother Henry and Sir Henry are all buried in Melbourne.

I will not explore this further until I hear from you but you have re-aroused my curiosity of the migration of Steets and Weedons to New South Wales from VIctoria, many Steets returnded to Melbourne, there was much illness and many deaths of children for the Steets who came to NSW.

Best regards and once again I apologise for the delay. Feel free to use my email.

Stumbled across this post today. I've not really looked into my ancestry much but I find it fascinating none the less!
I'm not sure if there's a better place for me to post this info but for now this will do.
I am Kye Peter Thomas Weedon, from Lake Macquarie NSW.
My father is Peter Thomas Weedon (Newcastle)
GF William Thomas Weedon (Goulbourn)
GGF Thomas Henry Weedon
GGGF we think was Sir Henry Weedon?
I've been told our English roots are a line of Court-Weedon's, with the Court being dropped at some stage.

The names certainly follow a theme anyway.
Just thought I'd throw this part of the Weedon line out there. I don't have an extensive list of family, but I'd be happy to help in any way I can.
Have a nice day :)
Hi

A bit late in the day replying to your post (17-3-2006) however I thought I'd post anyway.

My Family originate from Bow around the Mile End area. My father was William (c1914) who had brothers John, James, Henry and I believe at least one sister.

If you would like to know more let me know.

Derek

William & Sarah Weedon/Weeden in England

Seeking any information that would help find the origins of William Weedon/Weeden/ probably born around the 1790's in England.
Married Sarah ?? and had two children that we know of;-

3 MAY 1820; in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.
Jemima Thomasina, daughter of William and Sarah WEEDON.
Parents abode;- Sysonby in this Parish.
Fathers trade- Groom.

3 July 1823. William, son of William and Sarah WEEDEN. [parents abode]- Tutnell. Tardebigg, Worcestershire, England [Fathers profession]- Master of the Earl of Plymouth's stables.

Both these children married in Middlesex, William in 1842 and Jemima in 1851. On both marriage records the fathers profession is listed as "Coach Proprietor"
(both later emigrated to New Zealand)

A letter written by a grand-daughter indicates that the senior William ran mail coaches from London to Brighton, the same letter also seems to indicate that he died before the marriage of his son William (1842). I have been unable to verify these claims. I have also been unable to find my Weedens in the census records and there are too many possible deaths listed in the St Catherines index for me to start ordering them.

Any advice or contacts appreciated.

Brendon
