I realize your post is from 1999, but I thought it may still be worth a try anyway. The Essie Weir you mentioned that was born in Nova Scotia and is the daughter of Daniel (Hunter) Weir is in my family tree. I have a little information on them. Maybe by now, you may have a lot more!

I have a book that lists two men named David T. Weir.

One passage lists him as a child of Robert and Sarah Weir. Other siblings include Andrew James, William, Benjamin V., John Young, Jane (Carr). The family lived in Indiana. This David T. married Anna Eliza Townsend. Sarah died 21 September 1843; her husband Robert died 22 September 1843 (hours apart).

Another passage list David T. Weir born about 1835. The book does not mention his wife, but names his children: Willie, George, Harry C, Charles Murton and Mary Sanford. This Weir family lived in Kentucky.

These passages are from Weir / Wear Families From Here & There to the White House, by Spore and Jones. There is more detail. If you believe either is the David T. you are seeking, I will scan the passages and send them to you.

Larry

Finding a father of an Illegitimate child

My great grandfather came from Scotland and was always known as William Findlay here. I have just started doing research about him and found he was actually an illegitimate child that was born in 1889. With the help of some AMAZING members I have narrowed down that his mom was Isabelle Weir, based on his birth certificate, was named William Findlay Weir. Based on the census data from 1901 in Scotland he is living with his grandparents in the same area he was born. I am not sure how to track down the linage of his mom and find his dad.

Also, does anyone know if there was a lot of shame in being an illegitimate child in the 1880's? Would he have been scorn and blacklisted? I am trying to figure out why he dropped the Weir when he came to the US.

Thank you for your message - I looked at your tree and you've done a lot of work. I'll be looking it over for a while. I'm definitely interested in any of the Wears that ended up in Illinois. I have a gut feeling that the reason Christian Wear moved from Indiana following his wife's death, to Illinois, had something to do with a family link. I know he ended up in Perry Co, Illinois, and there was a Wear family there just prior to the Civil War, but the husband was killed in or died during the war...
I checked the book for Salathiel Veach, but there is no record for him. But there are four veaches listed:
Joseph, son of Zadock and Margaret Veach, b 1837. He enlisted Apr 1862 and died of disease May 1862.
McKendrie L., son of Zadock and Margaret Veach, born 1840. He enlisted in Apr 1862 with his brother Joseph, and died of disease in Aug 1862.
Samuel Jones Veach, son of Zadock and Margaret Veach, b 1843. He enlisted 2 Apr 1862 (Joseph and McKendrie enlisted 26 Apr) and was paroled at Salisbury NC on 23 May 1865, with no additional information.
Finally, William Veach, also son of Zadock and Margaret Veach, b 1839. William was consrcipted in Jul 1862 in Wake County and was paroled at Appomattox Court House on 9 Apr 1865. He died on 6 Dec 1896 and is buried in the Thomasville City Cemetery. There is a more complete bio of William here and I'll transcribe it if you're interested.
Hope this helps, and thanks again!

I have found a John Wear/Weer/Weir who was born in Rowan, NC about 1815. I believe he is one of the missing children of John Wear/Weer/Weir and Salome Houke.

This John Wear (b. 1815) married Rachel Thomas and moved to Schuyler, IL sometime after 1842.

Because I am surmising that he is the son of John and Salome, I used the 1830 census to be sure I wasn't giving them an extra son. Having done that, it seems likely that he was their second son.

I also identified two missing children: a daughter born about 1818 and a son born about 1825.

You can see my page for John Sr. and Salome here, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/5570884/person/6082411464?add...

There you will see that I've also idenfified some possible brothers of John Sr.

One of those possible brothers, David Wear, is the grandfather of a Mary E. Wear who married Salathiel Veach of Davidson. Salathiel Veach was born about 1832.

In the 1910 census, Salathiel says he served on the Confederate side in the Civil War. Would you be willing to look in your book to see if he appears there? I have found no record of his military service anyplace else.

Many thanks & best wishes...

Hi joyce.

My ggg grandfather was John Weir, born about 1801 in Maryland. He married Elizabeth Paxon. In 1850, they were living in Mt Pleasant in Jefferson County. In 1860, John was living in Colerain Township in Belmont County. He died about 1880 in Moorefield, about 12 miles west of Cadiz. All three of these places were within about 25 miles of each other. I have nothing on Jesse but they certainly could have been brothers. It is possible that they were Quakers since Mt Pleasant was heavily Quaker at that time.

william weir sr was a presbyterian. part of the scottish coventeers that settled in fishing creek s.c. his son william weir jr moved on to Ky. His sons Telemachus and James Harrison Weir were born in Logan-Todd county Ky. Telemachus Weir graduated from Cumberland College as a presbyterian minister and served in southern Ky. and northern Tenn. later to Illinois and then Texas. but kept in touch by mail with James but also with William Weir and Elizabeth Latimer. The Weir's were all either Presbyterian or Methodist. He refered to William as brother but most assume he meant as church brother. some people think they were relatives and others as fellow church members. I could never find anything on William's parents just some on his children and decendents.

I have a JOHN WEIR born 1811 Washington Co, PA (?) married a Nancy DeWindt Kipp in Jackson Co, OH. They didn't name a son John but might as well have! They did name the first son George D (I believe for DeWindt) who was killed quite young in the Civil War.
The only other son was named Andrew. They had five daughters.
I have a picture (quite by accident) of John.

He died in Bates Co., MO. Was a teacher at a one room school house, and farmed on the side.
I know all this about him, except his parents! Like you said, so many Johns!
There is also a Weir, KS....and the family always believed it was named for their family. I can find no proof of this.
If there is anyone out there that knows of this family, I would appreciate any information!
Lavonne Parrish,

I'm descended from Thomas Weir, married to Isabella McKee, whoes sons, John and James founded Weir, MS. Most internet and family info say Thomas's parents are Capt. John and Elizabeth McKelvey Weer, of Kings Mountain, NC. But I have found two Thomas's, reported to be their son. One is Thomas McKelvey Weer buried next to his wife, Catharine Kidd Dickey in El Bethel Cemetery in Kings Mt.(which I believe is Capt John's son).

The other is buried next to his wife, Isabelle McKee in Bethsalem Presb. Church, Weir, MS.(Who I believe is the father of John & James) So who is the father of the Thomas buried in Mississippi? Or is it like the Newhart show, "This is my brother Thomas, and this is my other brother Thomas :-)"

And, for all you future Weir parents - please don't name your sons John, Thomas, or James - it's getting really confusing!
Thanks
Scott Weir (hypocritical father of John Scott Weir)

Hi, I am looking for the Weir family who left GILLYHOLME (Nth of Ireland) around 1839 to go to Canada. They settled in an area called CAVAN in ONTARIO.
WILLIAM and AGNES (Nee Teevan) were married in 1817 (Fermanagh).
Their two eldest children, George (b1818) and Elizabeth (b1819), remained in Fermanagh but there are three other children who were baptised in the Devenish parish who must have went with William and Agnes. They are William christened 23/2/1820, Thomas christened 28/3/1830 and Anne Jane christened 23/9/1832. It does seem funny that there is a ten year gap between William and Thomas but i can't find any others in this period. It is believed that Agnes died shortly after arriving in Canada.
Can anyone help?
Jacqui

My husband received your message. Unfortunately, he is unable to help me research very much. I have looked thru his paperwork and I find no Albert Sweeney Weir. His great grandfather was Albert Thompson Weir, Ash Grove, Mo. His grandfather was Albert Thomas Weir. I will continue to look thru his papers to be sure I haven't missed something. Please let me know is there is anything else I can help you with. Thank you
Georgia Attebery

I know this is a very old post, but I just saw it. I am the granddaughter of Sophie Weir Grotberg, who was the daughter of Albert Sweeney Weir, who you mention. I know Albert died in Cleveland Ohio and was buried at an east Cleveland cemetery, but I can't find which one. My cousin lives there and he is not in the East Cleveland Community Cemetery. How would I find which one he is in? Thank you. Karen Grotberg Weinberg

I know all the children of Albert Weir if you still want that information. My grandmother was Sophie, his daughter.
