I'm Sandy Wendell/married name Crosby. I live in Maplewood, MN presently. I just now saw your post from July 2003, which was a long time ago! My phone number is: 763 843-2762. You can find me on Facebook under Sandy Crosby. I would very much enjoy hearing from you, Cathie~or any other member of the family. I know so little about my side of the family, since my dad died when I was just 6. One of my daughters urged me to get in touch with someone from the Wendell side, so here I am!!
Ancestry just sent me a possible connection to your posted tree. It is not a match, but just thought I'd let you know about the coincidence to help you sort out information.

My great aunt was Hazel Wendell born 1909 in New Jersey. She was the youngest child of Theodore Wendell and Harriet Maynard. They had 13 children; 10 who lived. They always lived in the Essex County, NJ. Theodore's father was George Wendell, but he was born on the Isle of Fehmarn, Germany ca. 1840. Came to this country in the late 1850's and married Anna Wethling. Theodore was their only child who lived. They divorced about 1870. I have no idea what happened to George after that.

Who was the father of George Wendell b. ca. 1886?

Good Luck on yoru search
Gail Benson
Richland, NJ

I just saw your posting (4/10/10). I am some sort of distant relative. In the Wendell line Generation 7 lists
Livinus, born Oct. 27. 1783 om Albany, marrying Emily, born
1794/ l child, Abraham, born 1807. 1870 census shows them
age 85 and 76 in the Chester, Warren County, NY. The 1850
census shows Abraham, age 43, a shoemaker,,,,,Hope this helps. My Father was Karl V. Wendell 1,born in Corinth Ny,
1903. I think I'm generation 11. Take care, Virginia
Wendell Bertos

My father was Karl V. Wendell son of
foster and Jennie (Spencer) Wendell. He was born in Corinth
NY. I don't know much about either grandparent as Jennie
died before I was born and Foster died in 1945. I remember
my parents going away for the funeral, but little else. I
was born 6/28/39. I'd love to find out info on both of
them. I remember talk about Foster being a tight-rope
walker, but don't know if was true. Whatever you can share
that's new would be great. I'm also the Aunt of Roger
Jermyn and have the info you gave him...Anything new????

Windle's/Wendell's from Greenbrier WV

I am the granddaughter of Charles Andrew Windle (A.K.A. Andy). Charles was born in 1875 and married Nellie Boggess in 1928, in Greenbrier Co. WV. The parents of Charles were Thomas and Matilda Gibson, married in 1866. The children of Thomas and Matilda that I know for certain were; Mary, Joseph, Henry, Margaret, Virginia, and Charles. The parents of Thomas were William and Cynthea Anne (A.K.A. Cinthy and C.A.) Windle. I also know that Charles and Nellie changed the spelling of the Windle surname to Wendell sometime around 1940. (Not really sure why that happened.) I would love to have any info you may have on this family line. I have a little more than listed, but not much.

Thanks,
Amy

P.S. Bill Windle, I receive your email updates, but I am unable to access the site.

From the 1900 and 1910 census records I have determined that in 1900 Julian was one of nine siblings, two of which had died. They were living in Washburn, Bayfield, Wisconsin.
His father was Elihu G. Gifford born June 1855 in New York and Matilda born September 1855 in New York. Julian's siblings were: Ysobel born August 1878(21), Ruth born November 1879 (20), Julian born March 1881 (20), Marion born June 1883 (16), Leila born March 1885 (15), Florence born August 1886 (13) and Charles born August 1894 (5). All children, except Charles who was born in Wisconsin, were born in New York.

In the 1910 Census, Matilda was living in Detroit with only Ruth, Julian, Lelia (a public school teacher) and Charles at home.

Need more information on Gifford line.

The sister of my grandmother (Eva Marie Theodora Wendell) was Margaret Romaine Ignatia Wendell. Both were born on Mackinac Island, Michigan. Their parents were J. A. Theodore Wendell and Anna Marie Hale.

My Great Aunt Rom (M. Romaine I. Wendell) was a vocal teacher in Detroit, Michigan for many years. She married a Julian Gifford who I think died in Miami, Florida in 1946. What I am trying to get documentation on is when and where they were married and the specific date they both died and where they are buried. I knew my Aunt Rom and believed she died in Detroit between 1948 and 1958.
frank swift

My great grandfather was Herman Wendell. He had a son named Frank. Frank was brother of my grandfather Oliver.
The family name in Etzel, Germany was Wendeln. I do not know why the spellling was changed. One of the three brothers kept the original spelling of Wendeln.
I would be interested in sharing family history with you.
I hope to hear from you.
Thank you, Ken

Re: John C. Wendell/Minnesota

John C Wendell was in fact born John W. Jones. His fathers name was Attai Jones and his mother was Elizabeth Chadwick. Her mother in turn was Maria Wendell who first married # 1 Chadwick and #2 Gustin. John W.(the W probably stood for Wendell) Jones enlisted in the U.S. army during the Civil War. Then he deserted, later re-enlisting, probably to obtain the bounty that was paid for enlistments as John Wendell. I have more information if interested, please contact me.....luvnnonni@aol.com

Jacob Wendell that was born 3 September 1805 was NOT the father of Lucina Wendell. He was in fact her 1/2 brother who was born to Jacob Wendell and Magdelena Snyder his first wife.

Jacob Wendell born 3 September 1805 married Margaret Failing. He died in Albany, New York on 23 September 1884 where he lived after leaving Fort Plain, Montgomery County, New York where he had been a lawyer. Have considerable information on this Wendell family.

Lucina Wendell married # 1 Horatio Vunk and had one son Fred Vunk. After Horatio's death she married Earlman Rogers Hatch, a widower with two small daughters Alleda and Florella. His first wife was Sally Ashley.

Lucina was a full sister of my great-great grandmother, Imilda Leona Wendell Berrian.

Please feel free to contact me about the Wendell family.

I am looking for any information on my Grandfather - Frank Adams Wendell - born 1893 in Albany NY - his mother was Elizabeth Wendell (can't find any info on his father). Frank started working for the DL&W Railroad in Hoboken, NJ around 1917. He and his wife Edith lived in Chatham, NJ. They had 2 children - Frank Jr. - who was a paratrooper and was killed in action in WWII -- and a daughter Marjorie Ruth. Any info would certainly be appreciated..

I was born to Gilbert and Zadie Windell in New Albany, IN on May 24, 1965. My original name was Naomi Jean Windell. Zadie was placed in a mental institute, Madison, IN - but I have been unable to locate any information to verify this story. Gilbert was shot to death by his son, Gilbert, II. My younger brother, Randy and I were adopted out after Gilbert's death in 1965. I have searched and searched only to come up empty handed. Unfortunately, both my biological and adoptive parents are deceased.

any information you can give me would be great.

thanks,

Sara
