I am Roxanne (Stobbe) Malott, and my mother is Helen Trueman Stobbe. In doing some research I found this page. Some corrections to the information given on June 27, 2007 are as follows: My mothers correct name is Helen (Irene) Trueman Stobbe - born 3/7/25. My father was Frederick A. Stobbe (deceased, 1974). I am the younger child of Helen and Fred. The correct middle name for my husband is Anton. We have two children, Matthew and Kathryn. Aunt Elizabeth's DOB is 8/21/20. Her two daughters are Carol (married to Thomas Walsh, three children, Sean, Kevin, and Erin) and Mary (married to Rich Gilles, two children, Sarah and Jeff).

Additional information: My mother always told me my grandmothers (Edna Westlake Trueman) middle name was Johanna. My grandmother had two brothers; Charles and Edward Westlake. Neither of my Great Uncles had children. Uncle Charlie married a woman named Marge. They retired to Sarasota, Florida in the mid-1960's. Uncle Ed never married, and eventually lived with my mother for the last few years of his life. Both of my grandparents, and some of the Westlakes, are buried in Grandlawn Cemetary, located on Grand River Avenue in Redford, Michigan.

Searching for George Westlake Jr. Fought in WWII

I'm searching for information on George Westlake Jr.
He was in the Service, I believe the Army in WWII, and was married to my aunt, Roberta Louise Fox, aka Louise or Wesa. I know he had at least 2 children prior to marrying Louise. They had at least one son, David Westlake, b. in 1942 in California If any info is available it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Tammy

Re: Covington Westlake family of Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio - mid 1800s - early 1900s

I have a Josiah Westlake br in New Jersey died in Youngstown Ohio 6 Aug 1848 according to his War of 1812 pension paper.

However he was married to a Sarah Henning br 1814 Maryland and had children with her 1st known child was br in Ohio in 1832. I have Josiah in the 1830 1840 census and his widow Sarah and children in the 1850 census in Mercer Co Pa. I have a Josiah in the 1820 census in Mercer Co Pa with a wife but no children in census. I cannot prove that the Josiah in the 1820 census in Mercer Co Pa is one and the same tho as the wife is too old in that census to be Sarah Henning. Sarah would have been 6 in that census. The 1840 census has Josiah down as a pensioner age 59 I believe living in Mercer Co Pa.

I have no idea why he went to Youngstown Ohio tho and died there in 1848. His final pension voucher stated that he died Aug 6 1948. Josiah also went by the name of Joseph Westlake. You will find him in searches as Josiah/Joseph Westlake.

He was alot older than Sarah his wife and I wonder if he was not married before her.

The last census for him was the 1840 census where he was living in Delaware Township Mercer Co Pa.

That census shows this
1840

Name: Josiah Weslick
Township: Delaware
County: Mercer
State: Pennsylvania
Free White Persons - Males - Under 5: 1 John
Free White Persons - Males - 5 thru 9: 1 ?????
Free White Persons - Males - 10 thru 14: 1 ????
Free White Persons - Males - 40 thru 49: 1 Josiah
Free White Persons - Females - Under 5: 1 Mary Ann
Free White Persons - Females - 5 thru 9: 1 Minerva
Free White Persons - Females - 10 thru 14: 1?????
Free White Persons - Females - 30 thru 39: 1 Sarah
Total - All Persons (Free White, Free Colored, Slaves): 8
Free White Persons - Under 20: 6
Free White Persons - 20 thru 49: 2
Total Free White Persons: 8

In my Westlakes their first know child according to the 1850 census was Minerva br Ohio in 1832 then Mary Ann br 1835 who was my 4th ggrandmother. Then son John G br 1837 then Hannah br 1840. So up to John G the 1840 census fits my Westlakes cept for the other ?3? children.

Who were the other children in the household could they have been from a first marriage?

I know through searches that there were Westlakes in Ohio and he proberly went there to vist? them for some reason and met his death there.

This Josiah Westlake I have proberly is not the one you seek but I did think interesting that we both have a Josiah Westlake in Mercer Co and I did ck your Covington Westlake and found that in the 1880 census his father was br in New Jersey and from your post lived in Mercer Co Pa at least for his birth.

Do you have a cemetery listing for your Josiah Westlake and wife Hysobeth?

This is just really odd this 1840 census. Sarah Westlake Fury nee Henning died before the 1900 census which would show how many children she had. I know she had for sure 8 children with Josiah Westlake and 4 children with 2nd husband.

Or do I have another Josiah Westlake br in New Jersey confused with yours.

Sharon

Have also found Harold Leonard Westlake was born 27 Sept 1895 in Croydon, Surrey, England and his father was William Westlake. He married Laura Elizabeth Barker in 1919 in York. Do contact me quickly. I want to check if you're a long lost second cousin. If you send a phone number, I'll call you.
Jacqueline Perry
Since I sent the first post, I have found more details about Harold and Laura. She died in Burnaby, BC, aged 87 on 20 June 1979. He was Harold Leonard Westlake and had died before her. I am sure these are the Harold and Laura I had been searching as her father is listed as William Barker and her mother as Emma Johnson, which I already had listed on the family tree. I hope they are the ones you are trying to trace as this would make us relsted - second cousins or something similar!

My grandfather's sister was Laura Elizabeth Barker who was born in York, Yorkshire, England in 1892. She married a Harold Westlake who was, I believe, Canadian, and emigrated to Canada, settling in Vancouver. I am myself trying to trace their descendants and would appreciate any help.

I am responding to my old post to see if any new viewers may help. Since last post, have located a death certificate for William that says his dob was 11 Jun 1843 England. No parents are listed. His wife Clarissa had a maiden name of Johnson and I have a previous marriage record to a George Seigmiller in 1864. I also noted that Clarissa is at home with her parents under the name of Johnson in the 1870 Fed census. That narrows down the marriage date to between 1870 and 1877.

I am hoping a marriage record will help tell me who William is and where he came from.

Thanks

Sherry Pierce

Thanks anyway for your prompt reply. Good luck in your research. According to Pat Slaubach Davis, there are only about 5 separate family groups of Westlakes in the U.S. We may have all been connected once upon a time in England, but now those groups are completely divergent. I've done a lot of looking and don't have your Harold.
Mary Pritchard

I may have some information about your inquiry.
My great great grandfather was Lemuel Westlake, from the Bellaire area of Ohio. His son, Robert Lemuel Westlake was a fairly successful baseball player in the late 1800s (Check out the Robert Lifson Baseball Auction info - there is a photo of him on a team from Wheeling WV and a team from Bellaire. My grandfather was Robert George Westlake, settled in the New Manchester (then Pughtown) WV area and was a WWI veteran. My father was Robert Eugene Westlake, recently passed away and was a WWII Navy veteran.
My brother was Robert Charles Westlake and recently passed away at age 56 in Tombstone, AZ. He was a performer out there in the gunfighting shows. I would love to hear from anyone who who like some additional info.
I live in Youngstown, OH.

Lori (Lauren) Westlake

I have two brothers, David and Bruce, who are sons of Bryce.I was moved to look up Westlakes after we sorted 60+ years of mementos in a military footlocker from her closet. My e-mail address has changed, I think, since we last wrote. Gotta go meet the brothers for dinner. Where did the story that Dad was murdered come from? They lived briefly in Montana before I was born, but I wouldn't be here if he hadn't left there. I was born in Wyoming.
