Our Mary Caroline was born in Knoxville, Tenn. on July 8, 1870 and died Jan 22, 1944 in MO. M: William Thomas Loughary Aug, 10, 1889. Her Father was Harbard Westmoreland Born 1848 in N. C. Wife Martha Hill born in 1847 in N. C.-Children in 1880 Knox Co, TN census were Thomas H. 13 born TN.-Mary C. 9 born TN.-Anna L. 4- born TN.- William W. 3 born TN.- John R. 1 born TN. This is all I have on them except they were also in the 1870 Cocke Co. TN. census with only Thomas.
If anyone knows more about this family please let me know. Thanks

The 1880 MO Census for Randol Township, Cape Giarardeau County lists Thomas Westmorland b abt 1847 in TN, with wife Harriet b abt 1844 IL, mother in law Mary Vaught b abt 1811 KY, daughters Bernie B. [Bernie Belle], Jessie L. [or perhaps S?] and sons John H. and Charles. It states that both of Thomas Westmorland's parents were born in TN. Bernie Belle Westmorland is my greatgrandmother. I am looking for information about any of these family members or their ancestors. No Westmorland or Westmoreland families were listed in the 1870 Census for Randol Township. (I looked through each page!) Does anyone have leads on these people?

Bernie Belle Westmorland married Joseph Hutson Fair about 1896 in MO and was listed in the 1900 NM Census with him and their son Thomas Fair age 1. Bernie Belle died in 1937 in Huntington, WV and was buried in Greenville, SC.

I think her siblings John and Jessie may also have been buried in Greenville, SC. Until the 1880 Census my family had never heard of their younger brother Charles.

Hi. My Grandfather, Oliver William Loughary's mother was named Mary Caroline Westmorland Loughary born in Murphysboro, Tennesee. She had Oliver in 1905 in Coppermines, Missouri. His mother had married Thomas William Loughary and Mary Thomas had 9 children. Mary Caroline Westmorland Loughary's father was William Westmorland. I do not know anything else.

This is my grandfather's mother. I don't have any dates on her other than she had my grandpa in 1905 and he wasn't the oldest. and she was born in Murphysboro, Tennesee. Any other info you have would be appreciated. My address is slick3ks@yahoo.com.

Our Caroline Westmoreland was born about 1815 in NC. We have found a Henry Westmoreland in the 1830 Pope Co. census, but do not have a connection. There was a Polly Westmoreland in the area close in age to Caroline.
There was an Elizabeth Westmoreland who married in 1843 and a Clarinda who married in 41 (or vice versa)..
We also have found an Asa or Anna Westmoreland in the 1840 Pope Co. census, living with her young children.
Since putting my query on the site, we have found children other than Spencer and James A Waters as children of Caroline's. There were at least five older children, including Mary, Edgar, Richard, William, and Rhoda.

I just realized we're cousins. My grandmother Leora Loughary Tripp and your grandfather Oliver Loughary were siblings. I think I've met you before, but it was a long time ago.

Information I have on Mary Caroline Westmoreland says she was the daughter of Harbard Westmoreland and Martha Hill both born about 1847 in NC. This seems to coincide with the fact that the majority of the people around Southeast Missouri came there from NC by way of TN or KY.
I got this from a daughter of Eula Loughary Umfleet (daughter of William Thomas Loughary). I don't know which daughter. In the information she just speaks of her brother Edgar.

Linda, I just read the information on your great Grandmother. Your Dad possibaly knows more than I do but my oldest brother just died at the age of 87 and he told me her name was Mary Cathlene. Their oldest child was older than my mother and my mother was born May 12, 1892. Your Dad was one of the younger boys. I have some information on the Loughary name you might be interested in. Caroline Westmorland (Misoline or Emaline) married Wm. J.H. Waters in Pope Co., Ill. in 1834. She had two sons, James Armstrong and Spencer Jasper Waters in the 1850's.

wow...Caroline was also knows as Emaline or Misoline. The name Mary was a possibility.
However, she married Wm. John Henry Waters in 1834. Her sons, James A. and Spencer J. were born in the 1850's. We assume she died as he remarried. What a coincidence..with the names. Wish I knew more..Please email me back. I can't get your email address unless you post it..
