Yes. I need ancestors of Johann Jacob Westphalen born 1780 German. He was the father of Hans Jacob Westphalen
1803 – 1882. Is this family related to--or the same family--von Westphalen?

"The Children's Blizzard by David Laskin
On cover "Friday. Jan. 13, 1888
pg. 201 "The Westphalen girls, Eda & Matilda, also died in the night. Though born five years aprt, the daughters of German immigrants, the girls had grown close to each other in the tragedies that had befallen their family during the past few years. Diptheria struck the Westphalens in the winter of 1883. Two days before Christmas, six-year-old Frederick died. Six weeks later, their father, Peter, deranged by grief, hanged himself. Since then their mother had managed alone with six children. The winter of the blizzard, Eda was thirteen, Matilda, eight. The storm hit when the girls were at their county school in a hilly section of eastern Nebraska near the railroad town of Scribner...their house was a mile due north...they wandered in circles...Matilda failed, & Eda took off her wraps & covered her younger sister....
pg. 242...A new fund had been added-the Westphalen Monument Fund- to raise money for a headstone to be set over the graves of the Westphalen sisters....
pg. 251-2...Some of the money that was raised for the Westphalen sisters went to purchase the soaring marble obelisk that marks their graves in the cemetery of St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran in the hamlet of Ridgeley, Nebraska....1890, a windstorm blew their monument over & broke the obelisk in half...A new collection must have been taken up because the obelisk stands flawless today."
not my family

Dora Dorchen Westphalen is my great-grandmother. She married Charles Seifert and, together, they had three children (all of whom were born in Washington, I think): Ferdinand (b. 1997), Edith (b. 1889) and William Paul (b. 1890, my grandfather).

I would welcome any information one might have regarding Dora Dorchen Westphalen. Thank you!

I think that I might have a picture of Ferdinand George Westhphalen and his wife Myra Andrews. They may have been friends of the family in KS. I got the picture by as someone said it was Myra Anderson not Andrews. you can email me at slh101@cox.net if you want to have a copy. As far as I can tell, I am not related but if you are I would like to at least send on a picture.
