WEYMAN Fred H. - Spanish Am War mystery

Id#: 0387791
Name: Weyman, Fred H.
Date: Dec 5 1935
Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer; Cleveland, Ohio Necrology File, Reel #085.
Notes: Found in Morgue, to Get Military Burial. Fred H. Weyman, 65, of 3135 Perkins Avenue N.E., is to have a funeral with military honors instead of the burial in potter's field which seemed his fate early yesterday.
For yesterday afternoon Shaker Heights (Ohio) Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, claimed Weyman's body from the County Morgue and announced that funeral services would be held at the Deutsch Funeral Home, Crawford Road and Wade Park Avenue N. E., tomorrow at noon.
Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, and a squad from the Spanish-American War Veterans will be on hand.
Weyman died Nov. 29.
The body was taken to the morgue, because no relative could be found.
In Weyman's clothing were documents which showed he was a first lieutenant in the Spanish - American War and had been a member of a New York V. F. W. post.
Military organizations here, when no relatives could be found, decided to direct the funeral themselves.

Cuyahoga County, Ohio
Jack and Anna Weyman in Pennsylvania

I am looking for immigration information or information from Germany on Jack and Anna Wehman, who said on the US Census that they arrived in the US in 1875, though I can find no record of their arrival.

They began in Philadelphia, and had at least 4 children that I can find, Albert, Elizabeth, Rose and William, who is my ancestor, grandfather of my father.

Any information you have of Jack and Anna's arrival, the change from Weyman to Wehman the next generation, or other information on the family would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Ernest or Ernst Weyman

I live between Portersville and Ellwood City, very close to Wurtemburg and in Perry Twp. My great grandfather (Harry Edward Wehman) used to tell of his uncle telling him stories of the Civil War as he sat at his feet. I recently found Ernest to fit the description. I also got an obit for Ernest which you may be interested in. I have a lot of history on the Wehman family. My great grandmother was a Van Gorder and married into the Wehman family. Please get in touch -I would love to get a print of the photo (I haven't figured out how from that website!) and hear more of your story. Thanks!

Grant Murray Weyman, b. in Pgh. in 1895, son of Henry and Mary Weyman

I'm looking for information on other descendants of my grandfather, Grant Murray Weyman, who was born in April, 1895 on the North Side, Pittsburgh, PA (then called Allegheny City). According to my father (his son), he was buried in what is now Union Dale Cemetery on the north side of Marshall Avenue in Pittsburgh. I don't know when he died and can't find a record of him at the cemetery. According to my father, he remarried after a divorce from my grandmother, Antoinette, and lived in Zelienople, PA where he raised another family. A half sister came to stay with my parents when they were first married, but my mother cannot remember her name.

According to his WW II draft card, his second wife's name was Alice. I would be very interested in any information about his second family, his death and burial information, or just on his life in general.

Also, his parents, Henry and Mary Weyman, seem to have disappeared after the 1920 Federal Census. He was born in 1871 in Germany, came to the US in 1880, and became a naturalized citizen in 1887. His wife, Mary, was born in Pennsylvania in 1875.

I'm interested in contacting anyone with information or a genealogical interest in this family.

Richard H. and Margarette (Lloyd) Weyman

I am looking for information on the deaths of my great-great grandparents, Richard H. and Margarette (Lloyd) Weyman. I know that in 1900 they were living in Pittsburgh. My grandmother told me that her father's parents had both died by the time he was 11 years old. This puts my timeline to 1900 to 1903. My great-grandfather was William Weyman, b. 1892. Richard's father was George Weyman, a butcher from Schuylkill County, PA -- my great-grandfather and his siblings went back to live with him after their parent's death. I was wondering if anyone else here has ancestral connections with either George Weyman or even Richard and Margarette Weyman?

Weyman civil war info.

Looking to connect with any long lost descendents of Joseph Weyman from western Pennsylvania (b. abt 1795 in Bavaria, Germany; d. Apr 1880 in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, USA). Married Ann Elizabeth _________ (b. abt 1806 in Bavaria, Germany).

Especially looking for any Civil War documentation on Peter Weyman, George Weyman, and Frederick Weyman. The three brothers all served for the Union in the Civil War. Peter (my great-great grandfather) served in Knap's Independent Battery E, Light Artillery from Pennsylvania. Our side of the family never knew of their involvement in the war until recently. The children of Joseph and Mary Elizabeth were:

George Weyman (b.1846,Ohio; d. 20 July 1885) Not known whether he married or had children. The 1880 Census shows him as single, occupied as a glass blower, and living with his widowed mother. Given that he died in 1885, I am doubtful that he ever had any children.

Frederick Weyman (b. abt 1843 Ohio; d. 25 Oct 1863 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee) Not known whether he married or had children, but unlikely since he died so early on.

Peter Weyman (my great-great-grandfather) (b. Jun 1837 in Ohio; d. 1905). Peter married Margret A _____ (b. abt 1846 Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany) Peter and Margret’s children: Emma K Weyman (b. 1867); Matilda “Tilla” Weyman (b. 1869, married Adolph Herdt, children included Margaret Herdt, Estelle Herdt, Leslie Herdt, Allen Herdt, Clyde Herdt, and Earl Herdt); Lille Weyman (b. 1871); Margret Weyman (b. 1872); and Peter Adams Weyman (my great-grandfather, b. 1882).

Adam Weyman (b. 1837 in Ohio, USA). Married abt 1862 to Johanna/Hanna Jacob (b. abt 1842 in Germany/Prussia, arrived in USA abt 1855/1858). Children: Amelia Weyman (b. abt 1863 Pennsylvania, married John E Klinzing, had two sons named Howard J Klinzing and Norman Emerson Klinzing, grandchildren include K Joan Klinzing born in 1924 and Betty Louise Klinzing born in 1926); Sarah Weyman (b. abt 1867 Pennsylvania); Emma Weyman (b. abt 1870 Pennsylvania); Ida Weyman (b. abt 1877 Pennsylvania); Gertrude Weyman (b. abt 1879 Pennsylvania)

Catherine Weyman (b. 1835 in Pennsylvania, USA) Not known whether she married or had children.
There are relatives of Stanley Weyman living in Ruthin. Are there any descendants of Willie's daughters still alive? best wishes sorrel
Was wondering how you surname is tregent if may was your gt grandmother?

Re: John Tregent Weyman

Hello.
William Weyman married May Tregent on midsummer's day 1892. May was my gt grandmother. William died 1926. My mother says she remembers her mother crying "upstairs in her room" at his death. My grandmother was very fond of her father. William and May had three children: Marjorie b.1895, Joan b.1897 and John Tregent b. 1907 (all?) in Bromley Kent. My mother remembers the house but it was destroyed by a bomb in the war. The family still have an original painting that once hung in that house, which I first saw in my gt. auntJoan's London flat (I remember her with gt affection) It then passed to my aunt and when she died it went to my sister.
As for JTW, my gt. uncle, he lived a bachelor life and,as far as I know, he died in Portugal where he lived on an orange farm(? I may be able to get more details.) my mother has a photo of him on a skiing holiday with Marjorie, dated 1928/30. He was a good looking chap.
I have a very deetailed 'tree' of the Tregents which goes back to 1750,(they were from the Montpelier area of France) plus a lot of supporting material which was the result of work commissioned by JTW. Many Tregents emigrated to America as did some of the Weymans but it isn't clear to us how or when William and May were in the US. Can you explain this please.
As for the Weymans I have another tree, but a crudely drawn one that has its 'roots' in an Edward Wyman, b.1544. The Weymans were cattle drovers/stock breeders from the Hopton Castle area of Shropshire.A John Weyman trained the horse "the Colonel" which won the Grand National in 1869 and 1870 and another relative is the author Stanley J.Weyman.

I hope some of this is of interest and I would like to know what you can tell me about William and his family. My mother thinks he might have had siters callied Annie and Fannie, but she is 88 and her memory isn't clear. I keep prompting in the hope that more snippets might emerge.

My great-grandfather, George Weyman lived in Girardville, PA, and was one of 10 or 11 children. He was a boxer and worked fo the coal mine. He's the only person I know of from his side of the family. He married Eva Spiece Weyman, who was born in 1895. He died in 1944, and I was told he was 49, so I guess he was born in 1895 also. I believe he's buried in Ashland.

Robert H. Weyman, b.abt1841, lived LaFayette Co., WI, married to Julia Champion

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “R. H. Weyman – June 8, 1886”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Shullsburg (LaFayette Co.) WI, and he looks to be about mid 40s.

I found Robert H. Weyman in the 1880 census for New Diggings (LaFayette Co.), as a lead miner, age 39, living with his wife and daughters in the home of his mother in law, Elisabeth C. Champion, age 73. Robert was age 39, wife Julia A. was 35, and Elisabeth’s granddaughters were Flora E., age 10 and Milly May, age 3.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Robert H.
I am Henry's grand-daughter, LuRay. My father was Lester. Who is your father, Edward or Harold ? Are you Terry's cousin?

I have been to the grave and I've also found a little info on his Regiment - he enlisted out of Mercer, I believe.

I believe that two of the four children spelled their name with the "h" and Adma and Henry took the "y" spelling. It's funny that you should bring up the part about the name spelling. I just spent two weeks at my mother's home. We were going through her house (she's 92 and a pack rat, but you gotta love her! {;o) Anyway, I came upon a receipt where an Ernest Wehman had purchased something from my great grandparents on my mother's side, William and Mary Jane Main. Also, I've seen Ernest spelled another way - maybe on his tombstone - Ernst.

Any other information you can give me about that side of the family would be greatly appreciated. My dad died back in 1979 and all of my aunts and uncles are dead, except for one, so getting Weyman family history is near impossible.

Thank you.!

LuRay

Re: Ernest or Ernst Weyman

Ernest Weyman was my great grandfather. He is buried in the Zelieneople PA cementry. On his head stone it has Ernst (not sure why the "e" was dropped because all other records were Ernest) Weyman Sept 8, 1837 June 19,1917. Also marked on the tombstone is Elizabeth Weyman Birth: (blank) Death: March 5, 1904 in her 63rd Year. As you said he was in Company C of the 100th Regiment Pensylvania Voulteers, "Roundheads. He joined the 100th on August 31, 1861 and was mustered out with his company on July 24, 1865 and wasn't listed as wounded but acquired rheumatism during the war.

Look at the site www.100thpenn.com for the 100th history and where they fought during the civil war. There is even a picture of him that you have to send away for at this site "add /usamhilist.htm to the end of the site given above. Picture number is RG98S-CWP52.11. There is a history of the 100th Regiment published in 1989 (over 730 pages) but it is out of print and out of stock. I found two copies on Amazon (one was $50 and one was $160). I ordered the $50 one.

Ernest and Elizabeth had 4 children (I believe but I must will check with my father (90 years old) to be sure). I know they had a son Adam (my grandfather 1876-1963) who married Jennie May McGee 1885-1921. They had another son named Henry and I will have to get the other names from my father.

Part of the oral family history past down was that Ernest's name was Ernest Wehman when he entered the civil war but due to a mistake when he was mustered out it was incorrectly spelled Weyman. So for him to get his bonus and land he changed his name to match the mispelled one "Weyman." But I haven't found anything to confirm this or even to indicate it was possible.

Was Ernest part of your family tree? If so, how. Would like to hear from you. Thanks.

Jim

Melvina and Margaret Weyman were my mother's first cousins. I say were because I just found out that they both have recently passed away. They were both very helpful in my documentation of some of my anestors. I have a lot of information on the Kelley side of the family and some pictures. I look forward to sharing this information. Please contect me. Tom

Mary Weyman and son

I am looking for information about a Mary Weyman who supposedly gave birth on 12 Oct 1856 to a son named Charles. This boy became known as Charles W. Smith, married Elizabeth Sharp, and died 6 Nov 1926 in Grant Co., WI. One story has it that Charles was born in Chicago and another one says that Mary came from New York. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Karen

Grant,

Thanks for the note. This is what I have and I have no idea whether there is a connection between our families. Charles William Smith was born Oct. 12, 1856 supposedly in Chicago to a Mary Weyman. Charles died November 6, 1926 in Grant Co., WI. He married Elizabeth Sharp on July 23, 1883. One of their children, Aurelia, married Harley Storms, my husband's grandfather. Let me know if you think that there is any connection.

Karen

He has 3 siblings, a twin, Melvina Weyman, sister Peg (Schrempf), last reisdence both Glenshaw PA, and sister Lillie (Bausche), last residence Indiana. Havent found any info beyond my father, but note that the Weyman name is very prevalent in PA. Maybe your line can provide a clue?
