Gerald Ring Wheaton's siblings - the two I know about are
Catherine (Kate) Robinson Wheaton b 30 April 1873 in Knowlesville, Carleton Co., New Brunswick, and her younger sister Tess Lynn Wheaton b 29 July 1878. They both married Harry Wilfred Machum (1868-1944). Harry and Kate had 4 sons - Alexander, Kenneth, Donald & Gordon. I am the grandaughter of Gordon Weston Machum. His brother Donald wrote a Machum family history - this book is in the Saint John, N.B. library(I also have a copy). The Wheaton family is also mentioned in the book 'The Story of Knowlesville' by Judson M. Corey. I would appreciate any information on the family that you have and will exchange - any questions?

Hello William, I'm a relative of the Wheaton as well. My GGG grandmother was Harriett Wheaton House b. 1821 Hagerstown, Md. and died 5/20/1897 I'm trying to find her in the order of things. The only record I've found was 1850 census, but it listed Mary M. Wheaton 1st b.1823. I know that by 1850 Harriett was gone and married to George J. House and had had 5 children by then. So Harriett would not have been on the 1850 US census record. A new article about her death in "THE DAILY MAIL" April 20, 1897 mentioned Jacob Wheaton as her brother. So, where is she in the Wheaton records. Please help. Thanks

Be well,
Bronson McCurdy
248.910.2168

Brendan, hello, I'm also a relative of the Wheaton's. I would like very much to get in contact with you. Perhaps you can help me with my road block. Jacob Wheaton had a sister by the name of Harriett, born c. 1821 and she is my GGG grandmother. Her full name is Harriett Wheaton House, Hagerstown, Md. born and died there in 5/20/1897. I understand that you have a picture of Jacob. I would love to see it. Although I don't have a picture of our grandmother, this would perhaps give us some idea of what she may have looked like. Please contact me at 248.910.2168. Fill free to pass this on to other members who may have more information. Cheers

Be well,
Bronson D. McCurdy

Greetings. (especially to Mr. Young). These posts are old, but I hope someone with connections is reading.
I work for the City of Hagerstown, where Frank and Jacob Wheaton were from. I just found Jacob's grave todaymin Rose Hill Cemetery. I kinda serve as the city government's unofficial historian (I work in the planning office where I am a plan reviewer/administrator).
Jacob Wheaton is a big historical name here. There is a municipal park named for him. He supposedly was the first Af-American in Maryland to vote (I think in an 1869 municipal election for mayor), and was the first black in Washington County to serve on a petit jury. I would like to know more about him, especially obtain a copy of a photo of him, as I have not seen one here in the local Hagerstown community. I already found a photo of Frank on the internet. I recently published a book on Hagerstown in the Civil War. I wish I had a photo of Jacob for the book when I was doing it! Oh well. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Steve Bockmiller
Waynesboro, PA

Hello! Cyprian Wheaton was my gggrandfather. He was married 3 times and had a total of 14 children (at last count) Two Thomas's, which was cause for some confusion. His paren'ts were George & Mary Ann Killam Wheaton, and Mary Ann's father's name was also Cyprian.
Cyprian's first wife was Sara Kinnear, she died at age 37, they had 8 children together. the first son being named Thomas A. NOT my ancestor Thomas. Cyprian only had 1 child with Eunice Curneer. That is my ggrandfather, Thomas D. Wheaton. I have NO information on Eunice other than she died of TB when she was very young. Cyprian went on to marry Fannie Mersereau in approx. 1888, and they had 5 children, one died at childbirth.

We just got a bunch more results today. There are now 7 PROVEN descendants of Robert. There markers match perfectly at 25 and have 1 to 2 mismatches at 37 markers.

If you order through the project a 37 marker test is $149 (I think they add a $4 shipping charge) a 67 marker test is $238. We only have 2 67 marker results ----37 would be fantastic. I really want to figure out how this family fits in. You can also test through Ancestry but its not as good a deal and not as desirable for the project as they don't test the same markers.

And yes it only works for Males who are direct paternal line (therefore named Wheaton)

There's lots more info on my website including a link where you can order and you can email me directly at
a4est42@gmail.com
https://sites.google.com/site/wheatonsurname/home

If you are stuck we can help. Our project has 9 members at FTDNA and another half dozen tested elsewhere.

Trying to figure out where your Wheaton or Wheadon ancestor came from. Please check out my project and see how we can help.

This is strictly volunteer and open to all interested Wheaton/Wheadon descendants you'll need a male descendant with the surname Wheaton/Wheadon who is willing to be tested. Cost within the project is $149.

Lots more information on my website
https://sites.google.com/site/wheatonsurname/home
This project is via FTDNA but if you are tested through Ancestry you can still participate.

I am especially looking for descendants of Robert Wheaton's sons Christopher or Samuel.
Are you a Stuck WHEATON? Announcing a New WHEATON / WHEADON surname Project

I have been researching Wheatons for nearly 40 years. I am married to a stuck Wheaton and I am also descended from Robert 1636 of Rehoboth. For those of us at the brick wall with no paper trail I am turning to Science for help.

Additional information on the project is available at this website https://sites.google.com/site/wheatonsurname/home

After scouring all the DNA testing firms and finding only a couple of Wheatons and NO Wheaton or Wheadon Group, I have decided to create one. It will take a few more days to become operational but hopefully we can start answering some of those Wheaton questions which have been plaguing us for years. Ancestry's DNA database appears to have two Wheatons which are Thomas Wheadon decendents (there was an early name change)There are a few others I haven't sorted out yet.

Here is how we may get unstuck:
1)Separating descendants of Thomas Wheadon from Robert Wheaton.
2)Connecting the unconnected New Jersey Wheatons to the appropriate family ie: Uriah or Joseph of Cape May or Joseph of New Jersey
3)Sorting through the many New York Wheatons that are both Wheaton and Wheadon descendants coming from different branches.
4)Proving Robert Wheaton's connection to the Devon Wheatons
5)Helping to sort out the various English Wheaton branches
6) Seeing if the Wheatons and Wheadons are related back in England.
7) Pointing unattached Wheaton familes toward their genetic matches.

I am interested in Wheaton, Wheeton, Whetene, Wheaten, Weeton, Weaton, Wheadon, Whedon, Wheedon, Wheden, Wheaden, Weedon, Weadon or variations who have had their Y-DNA tested and are interested in sharing and those willing to participate. Wheaton / Wheadon data from any reputable DNA company is appreciated.

Please see more info and join me in the Wheaton Surname Project. This may be expanded to an Ancestry group and to Y-base.

http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/wheaton

Still looking for definitive proof of Thomas Ladd Wheaton of Chenango Co, NY his father William Wheaton of Schenectady Co, NY and perhaps his father is Joseph Wheaton of New Jersey suspected to be of Robert Wheaton's line.

Illiteracy meant that common folk didn't know how to spell their names,so officials took it as they heard it.

Captain L*oyd Wheaton was the man at Fort Pembina who arrested John O'Neill after O'Neill led an incursion by a small force of Fenians into what he thought was Canada in 1871. The Fenians captured the Hudsons Bay Post, but Wheaton had survey information that the post was south of the 49th Parallel, and so was in U.S. territory, and that is why he was able to lead U.S. troops to the post and take O'Neill.
