Are your Whiston's related to Enoch Alfred Whiston b 1879 in Birmingham? His parents were William Whiston and Emma Tottey. Enoch married Caroline Starkey in 1900.

Hi Elizabeth, I can't find a link between Enoch & myself, none of the other names appear on my name list, but that doesn't mean much as I don't keep records of siblings beyond 1900 that aren't directly in line or of current family interest.
Basically I have not come across him before & Whiston was not an uncommon name in England, not like it is here.
Happy hunting & best regards, Ron W.

Hello Mary
How wonderful to find contact at last!
I am Veronica [age 61] - one of Eugene's daughters. My brother Michael [the eldest of Eugene's children] was only telling me at the weekend, that he remembered Bridget from when he was a boy of about six! He remembered staying at Farmers Bridge when Mum and Dad visited many many years ago.
I have been trying to find any info and remaining family who could fill me in on the family history as not only am I compiling the family tree, I am also trying to write down the many 'tales' and 'stories' Dad and Mum told us, for the newest members of our family!.
I remember one or two Aunt's/Uncles - Julie [his sister] but most of all.. 'Tom Shea', who I absolutely adored as a child. I would love to hear more from you... if that would be something you would be ok with?
I have some of the names of Eugene's brothers and sisters but not all, so any info you could pass to me would be wonderful.
Thank you so much for posting your reply and I look forward to hearing back soon. Best Regards Veronica [Fisher]

Hannah Whiston - Williams

I am researching my 3rd great grandmother's Whiston family.

Parents Joseph & Permelia Whiston were born in MA. They had four children: Susannah Smith (b. 1802), Artemus (b. 1804), Lucy (b. 1805), & Lydia (b. 1808) in Holliston, Middlesex, MA.

I have not found them on any 1810 census. I believe during this time they were moving to Otsego County, NY. I have found a 1820 census in Pittsfield, NY and a 1830 census in Butternuts, NY. Permelia is not in either. I'm assuming she died before this date and believe that her and Joseph are both buried in Stetsonville cemetery with their daughter Esther who was born in 1809 in NY.

Now, here's the issue...

I've found Artemus on a 1850 census with Cornelius and Rebecca Jenny and a Hannah Whiston. I've also found an obituary in 1892 for a Hannah Williams stating that she was a sister of Artemus and I think she was 68 (the age is hard to read. it almost looks like it could be 08 and the digits just mixed up on accident... 80). They may have posted her age wrong. It's a possibility. She could be the Hannah from the 1850 census or she could be Susannah (Hannah being a short version of her name. Then her age in 1892 should be 90.). And, if the age is correct then she would have been born after Permelia died and no other female mother is stated in the 1820 or 1830 census'; Unless she had died too; Then who is she?.

If anyone can clear this information up, it would be greatly appreciated.

Looked through 544 Joseph Whitson's on RootsWeb. None with a wife named Mary Moran. Plenty with wives named Mary . . .
the LDS site also was fruitless. Ancestry had no such couple.

Unless you have more data such as the names and birthdates and places where their children were born, you're going to have a very difficult time finding related data.

Do you know the name of the RR company for which Joseph was an engineer?

Do you know why Joseph left NY for Argentine and how do yuo know that's where he went? The more information that is known gives researchers more "tools" to work with.

Sorry I couldn't help.

L C Smith

just noticed your query on william whiston who married marion jane tayler. well, my grandfather was william henry whiston christened dec 1874 longton staff. b31-5-1873 he married mirian jane tayler 5-1 1902 at birmingham, we knew her as marian, they had edward on 10-1-1903 in melbourne australia, and alfred, my father,on 19-8-07. william died in melbourne, I think, in mid 1900's, I can remember him around 1940?. I have copy of his indenture document as an apprentice ring maker in birmingham. as far as I can make out his parents were john and hannah, all the census seem to bear this out, dates, ages and siblings all seem to match. hope all this is a help and not a hinderence, if you need more, please let me know. email is de.ador @live.com.au. best wishes ron w.

Trying to trace my Whiston line back to England. My Great-Grandparents were Robert H (or K) Whiston b. ca. 1842 and Sarah W. Burgess. They married in St. John Co., New Brunswick in 1873. They had at least 3 children in Canada, Robert F., Helen W., & William. According to census records they came to US in 1879 and had 2 or 3 more children. Robert and Sarah were born in Canada or England. Not sure if they are the ones that emmigrated or their parents. Sarah born ca. 1852. Believe there were three born in U.S., Alfred, Burton (My Grandfather) and Harry. I believe that Burton is only one that had children. He and wife divorced in 1914 and no one in our family ever saw or heard from him again. Any info on Robert and Sarah appreciated. This is my brick wall.

Re: Tracing Whistons in Ireland

Have been trying to find info on Whistons in Ireland for some time. My Dad was a Whiston from Farmers Bridge, Tralee, Co. Kerry [Born 1908] and although his parents had lived there from mid 1800's I still hav'nt been able to trace back. I also know that there are Whistons in Cork so this may give you a couple of area to look into.
Hope it helps and should you find anything further, I would appreciate any info you could offer.
Good luck
Regards Veronica
