Is it possible that, if your aunt has French's bible, could someone find out if his father is named in it. Is it possible to get photocopies of the family history in the bible?

I will pay for any expenses to do so. Thank you for your response. Personal question, are you Justine? I am Margaret, Boyce and Marie's daughter.

Whitecottons in Tennessee

I have been searching for more information about Celina Whitecotton, b 1839, Campbell County, Tn. She is the mother of my g-grandfather French Brown/Wilhite, b. 1866 (probably in Scott County, Tn). Celina married first John Brown 7/13/1854. He was killed in 1862, selling horses to Union troops in Ky.
Celina had an affair with a Col. Wolford, with whom she had a son, in 1863. He is named as one of the persons who possibly killed her husband. In 1866, my g-grandfather was born. In 1869, Celina then married John C. Wilhite, using her married name of Celina Brown. Apparently my g-grandfather was born out of wedlock, but I don't know to whom. Any answers?
Margaret Coffey Ervin

I have a couple references to Harris Whitecotton in Stafford County, Virginia. He witnessed a land deed in the late 1790s and he also sold some land with my ancestor Jesse Kendall. I am not sure if he is listed in the Stafford County land or personal property tax lists.

Do you know if there was a relationship between the families?

Thanks
Scott

I'm not sure where Frank Whitecotton was from, but Georgie Gehr Whitecotton was born in Linesville, Pa. in 1880. She was my great aunt. I have pictures of them if anyone is interested. I've found newspaper clippings in some of her books which I believe to be from the Jefferson Bee in Iowa. She died in 1964. I really don't know anything about him other that what he looked like.

Hi Steven,

The book "The Whitecotton Family" (a three ring binder)was published in 1998 by Lawrence and Sue Dale. On the acknowledgements page a number of researchers are mentioned. Would you like to have a copy of this page? There is close to 600 pages of family data. I'm sure some of the research is in error, albeit which genealogical research isn't. I would be happy to look up info for you.

Robyn Shegda

I also have, from another post by Martha Jane Whitecotton her and her whole family. I sure you are connected with her, as she has stated. This is all part of the Whitecotton migration from Alabama to Texas. Do you know the names of the parents of your grandfather, John J. Whitecotton Sr.? This would tie everything together.

CONNIE, I am not very up to date on the Whitecotton history. I have not "dug around" very much for several years. Seems I remember an Earnest Whitecotton that lived in Nocona. His wife was a cook at a local cafe. But again I am not very sure about this. I am sorry but i really cannot be of much assistance. Some of the whitecotton's are buried in a small cemetary on the west side of Nocona. I do not know the name of the cemetary. To find it you go west on 82 out of Nocona and there is s sign on the highway. There are also several whitecotton's buried at Sugden Oklahoma. Sugden is near Waurica, Ok. My dad's parents are there along with some brothers also. I know some of my cousins are buried in Montague Cemetary, and there are several that still live in that area.

You may have seen a book that was compiled by a couple that details a lot of the Whitecotton name but I do not have it. My sister Dian in Elkhart, Ks. has one, I think. You can contact her at dboaldin@elkhart.com. Sorry I am not much help. Maybe we need a Whitecotton reunion and just invite everyone to see how we are all related. Ha ha, My cousin Jean (daughter of Virgie Whitecotton Allen, deceased), in New Mexico tried to put one together but this family is hard to get together in one place for some reason.

Charles Curtis Whitecotton, son of William Curtis Whitecotton.
