Margaret and Amy are sisters, daughters of Colonel William Whitehurst of Princess Anne County (Va. Beach), VA. Margaret was my 3g-grandmother. Her husband (3g-grandfather), Benjamin Flanagan was murdered according to the 1860 Mortality Census in June 1859. I have been searching for the circumstances of the murder. I recently found Walter S. Land, the husband of Amy Whitehurst, in the 1860 Census in Henrico Co., VA as a resident of the State Penitentiary. His crime? Murder! Coincidence?
My theory is that Walter Land killed his brother in law, Benjamin Flanagan. Any Whitehurst relatives out there have a story to tell? I'd like to hear it or least find out where I can read about it.

Barbour Co, Alabama marriage records show Samuel Whitehurst married Mary A. Faulk April 24, 1881. 1880 of that county shows Mollie Faulk living with Henry Faulk and wife Mary Jane (Bizzell). Mollie is niece of Henry and is 28 and a school teacher. Mary Jane Bizzell Faulk is grandaughter of John Whitehurst of Henry Co, Al.

y Faters Name was Walter Scott Whitehurst born in Ohio in 1915. His father was Joseph Elmer Whitehurst born in 1882 in Ohio. My great grand father was James Jonathan Whitehurst Born in Kentucky or Ohio 1853. His Mother was Mary Reed Whitehurst. His father is an unknown Whitehurst. I know little about him only that he came from England. Mary Whitehurst remarried to Harrison Carrigan when my great grand father was very young. Who was his birth father and what happened to him can any one help find him?

Died November 15, 1654 in a place called Princess Ann County in Virginia (now called Virginia Beach, VA)

I have a Sarah Mary Whitehurst in my tree, and am looking for any information anyone might have. She's married to Henry Simmons, and a distant cousin said that she was Noah's second wife, and they didn't have any kids together. I believe she was born around 1800. This is all the information I have, so any help is greatly appreciated.

My grandmother was a Whitehurst before marrying my grandfather. Her parents were William Henry Whitehurst and Marie Katherine Murphy. Wm. Henry's parents were William Whitehurst and Matilda Bewig. William's parents were W. Frank Whitehurst and Anna M. Ripke. Notice the frequent use of the name William. Don't let it confuse you. Captain W. Frank Whitehurst has a powerful story as an oysterman who was shot during the oyster wars of Chesapeake Bay. His death made it in the New York Times in 1888 and an emotional story of his funeral is told in the Baltimore Sun. Captain W. Frank Whitehurst is William E. Whitehurst's brother. That is my connection to your husbands line. Their father was also named William and we know both W. Frank and William E. came from Norfolk, Virginia before 1876 when Frank got married to his wife Anna Ripke in Baltimore. Taking their family back further has been a mystery. This is a reply for Michael McCormick. August Whitehurst was my husbands grandfather which means he and you are distant cousins. I have the death certificate for August Whitehurst, it shows he was born 3/10/83 and it shows he died 6/23/1917. Carrie Groskoph Whitehurst had a son George Whitehurst Sr who was my husbands father. Carrie Groskoph remarried a man named John Gallion. She passed away on 7/11/1975.

I would like to learn a little more about your Whitehurst line.

I am just beginning to research the Whitehurst line of my family, but they are also of Craven Co., NC.

My ancestor is a Robert Whitehurst, thought to have been born 1829 (ish).

Interestingly, perhaps, is that he has a SON named Samuel C. Whitehurst, born in 1865.

Lots of repetitions of naming conventions in the families at this time. This combined with the close birthdays and the matching location could hint that my Robert and your Samuel might have been brothers, hence naming his son after his brother.

But my research has only begun on this line. We feel free to be in touch, and we can trade information on what is probably the same familial line!

John Whitehurst 1857 Wolstanton, Staffs married Harriet A Allen 1880 (Civil Marriage reg Wolstanton).
1861 census: John Whitehurst is resident with grandparents Whitehurst at Wedgwood Staffs. Grandparents are James Whitehurst (c1810) and Maria Heath (c1811). I do not know the parents of John 1857.
I am researching for direct descendant of James Whitehurst (c1810)

Who did Julia Whitehurst marry? I am connected via Julia's older sister, Sarah, who married William L. Sellers on May 31, 1871, in Staunton. In turn, William was a younger brother of my great great grandfather, Jerome Howard Brown Sellers.

I have Julia through at least the 1860 Census. I'm very curious who she married.

You know Pam, it has been a long time, but I think we really are a match! I have been doing more Whitehurst research recently and I found the name of a distant cousin. Phyllis Whitehurst. I have not spoken with her knowingly, but the interesting thing is that she married a Horant. Is this your family? Her father was George and grandfather was August. I am in touch with a few other Whitehurst cousins. Maybe I could talk to you about it. I feel silly for not thinking it was a match the first time!

Hello, my grandmother was Mary Ellen Whitehurst born 1889 Newchapel Staffordshire.
I would be grateful for any information on her parents (see title) or siblings. Siblings are Eliza Ann b 1880, Livina(?) b 1882, James b 1883, Fred b 1887, John b 1889, George b 1892 and Raymond b 1898. Whitehurst seems to be a common Staffordshire name and it's hard to know if you have the right person.

I am looking for information on Minnie King Whitehurst who was married to Marion "Howard" Whitehurst.

From what I know, she was born in 1894 and lived in Mississippi in the Alcorn area. This website shows her parents as Benjamin Lee and Tenessie A King but I'm not 100% sure of that.

This is my husband's Great Grand Mother. Some of her children were Hubert, Hazel, Shelly, Annie and Beatrice Whitehurst.

From what I can tell on this website, it looks like Batson Whitehurst (born 1735 in VA & died 1823 in NC) and Elizabeth "Clemmy" Talpin (born 1740 in NC died ? in NC) were his parents. Hope that helps

Yes, Thomas (1761) was the son of Emmanual (1725), who was the son of Richard (1704), son of John (Before 1673), son of John (1638), son of Richard (1613), son of John. The earliest know Whitehurst in the area discovered so far is Adam born circa 1195.

William Whitehurst b. 1855 Sumter Co., GA travelled to Barbour Co, AL and married Nancy Cockcroft July 1884. They travelled to Troy, AL and had a child James W. Whitehurst. From there, they went to Santa Rosa Co, FL and had a son William Henry b. 1890. William died abt. 1893 and Nancy married M. M. Sorrells Nov. 1893. She had Carrie 2 months later, January 1894. Carrie was raised as a Sorrells (Sarrells) child. Family names are Burkett, Chavers, and
Sarrells.

Hi. What do you want to know about John?

He was born in 1804, the son of Thomas Whitehurst and Lydia James. He married Phoebe Thorley on 29th November 1824. He was the nephew of Richard Whitehurst of Whitehurst the Colliery Owner. John was a Collier. He died on 17th June 1887 and has a headstone in Kingsley Churchyard erected by his son Richard. Phoebe pre-deceased him on 29th October 1870. John and Phoebe had at least 10 children.

Hi, James Alonza Whitehurst, Sr. is my great great grandfather. His son, James Alonza Whitehurst, Jr. is my great grandfather. I have a family picture showing Lillian as a baby, I'd be happy to share it with you. Mr. Arthur Renard Whitehurst 92, of 1324 Bevis Dr. died April 14, 1991, at Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral is 2:30 p.m. today at Hankins, Whittington & Williams-Dearborn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 to 2:30 p.m. today.

Mr. Whitehurst, a Tarboro native, retired from Lance Packing Co. as assistant sales manager after more than 40 years and had helped design and name Lance products. He graduated from Mars Hill College and Wake Forest University. He was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church and a member and teacher of its Good Fellowship Sunday school class. He also was a World War I Navy veteran.

Survivors are his wife, Lucy; sons, Jim Whitehurst of Lake Norman, Terry Whitehurst; daughter, Mrs. Brenda Rollins of Knoxville, Tenn.; seven granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church, 1117 South Blvd., Charlotte, N.C. 28203.
