I am confused about Esther's name and last name
I have seen it listed as Ester Clayton and as Esther Claydon. Are they one in the same?

I am a descendent of George by way of his son George. I think I can make a case for your hypothesis based on names and census records.

Alfred and Elsie were married in Kankakee Co, IL in 1868.

1870: Kankakee Co, Illinois

(Whitmail) Alfred, Althea, Charles, Gracy, George, Lottie

I shall forward any details to my mother and uncle, both Whitmills and their cousin who has been undertaking more detailed research. I am sure that they would be willing to share any information that they have.

My name is Chris and I live in California and, after so long I'm delighted to get a response to my post. Charles and Susan Whitmill had 10 children. William James was the 2nd child (the eldest, a daughter died as a child) Frederick was, I believe, the 7th child

I have quite a lot of info about the Whitmill family so please let me know how you'd like me to send it. I have to work now but I'm happy to give you more info

Yes, I am related to Charles and Susan Whitmill on my mother's side. William James, son of Charles and Susan, was my grandfather's grandfather. He was a railway employee who became at one time Guard on the Irish Mail train that ran to Holyhead.

It was only through my mother's cousin that I was aware that there was a link with Stratfield Turgis. That was the only way that I located this posting.

My grandfather only knew about William James and his brother Frederick from that generation. My mother has some photographs of him and his wife and children.

I've searched and searched...

My wife is a Whitmill, her father is Charles (b. 1925). Charles’ father is a George Whitmill (1896-1955) of Kansas. I believe that George’s father is Alfred (b. 1845), son of Joseph and Esther Whitmill.

My problem lies in confirming a link between George and Alfred. I have not been able to find any references to Alfred’s children or if he even had any.

Do you have any info you could share on Alfred? I would greatly appreciate it.

I do not have much on Emanual Whitmill and Christina Duty's marriage other than a date of 12/2/1868 which I cannot substantiate.

I too have this line. Joseph & Esther Whitmill are my 3rd great grandparents. I wonder if you have any more information on their son Emanuel's marriage to Christina Duty. I know it was in 1868 in Whitefore, Monroe, Michigan but I cannot seem to be able to get a copy of this marriage. I believe it has Christina's parents listed as Kenny Duty and Susanna Wyman and would like to confirm this. Thanks, --Carl Sheperd

I have discovered this week that my great grandmother Elizabeth Sophia Bray (nee Young) married Jesse Whitmill
in 1904 at Holborn RO.

Jesse was 51 Elizabeth was 47. Both were widowed.

Jesse and his first wife had several children.
Not traced any for Jesse and Elizabeth so far.

Did Jesse die soon after as Elizabeth seemed to revert to Bray as she appears as this on Voters' List 1919 and again 1937.

A witness to the marriage was Fredrick C Whitmill.

Any connection?

I have, what I realize is conjecture, based on the research in the church records, formed some ideas on the ancestors of Joseph and Esther Whitmill. Please contact with with corrections or additional information. I do have baptism, marriage, and burial dates to go along with many of these.

Last fall, I spent some time in the Oxfordshire / Buckinghamshire area and have amassed a number of records about Whitmill's from these areas - particularly near the border between the two. I am happy to look up names in my database and give you the corresponding information. I can't promise that there are not transcription errors.

I do not have information on Whitmill's outside of this narrow region.

Do you have any additional information about Francis Whitmill? I am particularly curious if you have found parents for Francis? I am researching Whitmills in the Oxfordshire area at this time. Particularly:

Christopher (1771-1838) -> Joseph (1744-1819) & Frances (died 1805) -> Christopher (1715-1781) and Mary

They seem to float back and forth along the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire border.

In an attempt to see if Joseph Whitmill (b Apr 24, 1810 Waterstock, England) filled out naturalization paperwork, I wrote off to the Michigan archives.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that they have anything for this Joseph, but another Joseph, who I am guessing was his son, did. I am not directly related to Joseph, the son, but would be happy to scan and email this document for anyone who is interested. I can tell you that it is only 1 page and was executed on April 3, 1895 in Monroe County, Michigan.

I have an Ann Whitmill in my family tree. She was born in 1796. Her father was Francis Whitmill born 1766 in Oxfordshire. He married Elizabeth Brooke in Marylebone London (Paddington) on the 15th June 1791. If this helps please let me know and I can give you more info.

It is some time since you posted your details on the site. Have you been able to gather some more information since?

My husbands mothers maiden name was Whitmill and she came from London. Her parents were Frederick Charles and Emma Amelia Whitmill (born 1885). His father was Jesse Whitmill and may have been a Barber.

Does any of this tie in with your tree?

My ancestors came from Ickford and there are Claydons also.
John Nelms (1739-1807) of Ickford married Elizabeth Claydon
and his father John (who died in 1774) married Mary Claydon who died in 1785.

Sorry for confusing you, there was'nt a George who married Mary Jolly it was William. George & keturah: I konw George died at an young age in the 1870s but I do not know the exact year or where abouts Ive been down to stanmoor to try and locate his grave but I found nothing. George's Father William married Mary Jolly at St James church, paddington, On the 26th November 1826. Thats all Ive got up to myself.

We must certainly be related somehow. I am though a little confused. I have found Keturah Whitmill in the 1881 Census a widow aged 49. Living with her were two sons, George James aged 20 and Alfred aged 19 and a daughter Helen aged 7. Can you clarify who the George married to Mary Jolly is?
Do you have any other information on the family?

My G Grandfather George James Whitmill was born around 1861 in Little Stanmore Middx, he was married to Agnes and had 5 sons, Edward, George, Len, Arthur Robert (my grandfather born 1896) and Jack. I know that his mother's name was Keturah and he had a brother called Alfred and a sister named Helen. Can anyone out there help?
