Re: Lancashire Whittinghams

I am researching the Lancashire Whittinghams. They all seem to be William or Thomas. Most originated from Singleton in Lancashire. My family William was born in 1817, but I am currently researching another William born 1835, married to an Elizabeth. The son of my William was a lodger with the 1835 William and I am trying to go back to trace the connection as they are not 1st cousins. My research takes me back to a Thomas Whittingham born c1777. I`ll let you know if I find any connection. I have found a William born 1781 married to an Elizabeth, who could have had a son William in 1811. David Thomas

Sue, thank you.

Vera Crow was my great aunt, step sister to my paternal grandmother, Doris Crow. I've been trying to research any info on Arthur's family just to keep the info complete. Did you know Arthur? He was one of the NICEST people. We were all sorry to hear when he passed.

I've lost track of Michael and his wife, Susan, and their two daughters. We tried making contact when my sister & I were there in England in 1998, but Vera couldn't remember who we were (sad), therefore she was reluctant to give us any info on how to find Michael.

You can contact me direct at mymomsfamily@hotmail.com

I have recently discovered my family connection to the Whittinghams.
Mary Whittingham (1808-1876) was the eldest sister of Emmerson, Mary's grandaughter, Ada Charlton, was born in 1885, could she be the Ada in the photo?
Mary's daughter was also called Mary and she was my great -grandmother. It would be great if we could 'piece this together'. I have a photo of my great grandmother who married George Charlton and was known as 'Polly'.
I would be grateful for the info about the house and the will and also a copy of the photo.
Many thanks Kath

Hello Ruth.
My maiden name was Whittingham, and most of the family to my knowledge were born in South Yorkshire, although Ireland does also come into it somewhere. My Father was George Whittingham, his Father was Fred Whittingham, both from South Yorkshire, Barnsley/ Doncaster. My father was born in 1915, I'll try and search for when his father was born, around 1880+.
If I can help, let me know,
All the best

Noelle.

I am chasing parents of a Catherine Whittingham b.~1796. She married Joseph Goulding and lived in Leftwich, Davenham, Chester/Cheshire in 1841 with their 7 kids. Were her parents Samuel whittingham - Catherine Leshford (married 1795 Morden, Surrey) as Leshford/Lechford family may also link back to King Henry V111!!!
John (Melbourne,Australia)

Hi Nev
Thanks for your message. My Whittingham relations were:

Emmerson Whittingham (my great great grandfather) born 1821 Shadforth son of Thomas and Hannah both born c1786. In the 1841 census Thomas and Hannah also have a son Thomas aged 30 (therefore born c 1811) - is this the Thomas you refer to married to Emma?

The Whittinghams at that time were THE masons of the village and literally built the village. I'm afraid I no nothing of Ashville House, would be obliged for more information.

Chris Whittingham

this is a reply to Jane Middleton1 whose posted on 21 June 2008

Jane
I have just seen your message of 21 June.
Madgalena Whittingham nee Creus y Soler was my great-great-great grandmother. I am descended from her son Ferdinand. We have a great deal of information about the Whittinghams, including photographs and portraits - but very little about Madgalena, I suppose for the obvious reason - she left her husband and sons for Prince Paul. I would very much appreciate the information about her which you have offered.

Is your reference to Charles, Charles Whittingham, the eldest son?

My email address is helen.lu@accc.gov.au

Thank you
Helen

Could you supply names of your father and uncles/aunts as this may help finding a tree. I have found Minnie's birth record but cannot find parents marriage (yet). There is however a Jenny Smith listed in the 1901 Census aged six living in Wolverhampton. There is also a Minnie Whittingham aged 39 (born in Wolverhampton) living in Newcastle who could possibly be related.

You could however purchase a copy of Minnie's birth certificate which will tell you her parents names.
