Francis Marion WICKER b1837 AL Updated Information

I finally located where Francis Marion WICKER and his wife died and are buried and wanted to share it with other researchers of this line!! Most researchers show Francis Marion WICKER's birth as born Feb 1837 Autauga Co., AL. This date is from census. His wife was Surena C. ?, shown as born 1837 Mississippi per census. Myself and other researchers hadn't officially identified him past the 1910 census in Hempstead Co., AR. I had assumed that he died around there, but surprise!

They apparently moved to Oklahoma in a migration with at least 2 of their children. On the 1920 census, I found Surena C., a widow, living with her youngest daughter Lillie Belle who married William Harvey YOKEM. Poking around I located the graves in the area for both Francis Marion WICKER and his wife Surena C. ?

They are buried at Redland Cemetery, McCurtain Co., OK. Find a Grave has photos of the graves. The gravestones show a death date for Francis Marion WICKER of 1-14-1918 and for Surena C. of 12-19-1929.

I'll quote what is written about Robert Elisha Wicker.

Robert Elisha Wicker, son of Robert Hester and Hannah Simmons(Holley) Whicker, was born ca Sep 1773-5, Anson Co. NC. Robert received land in 1789 in Washington Co. GA. He appears on the Militia Rolls of 1793 in the 5th Co, Ist Bn, 2nd Regiment. He was a resident of Washington Co GA, in the 1805 Land Lottery but did not draw land. He settled in Baldwin Co. GA and drew land in the lottery fo 1827. He died before 1830 as no further records exist for him.

There is no good proof of his wife or his children. These listed are conclusions based on Baldwin Co. GA marriage records, AR census and marriage records, and the fact that the Robert Elisha name carries on. Possibly the widow Mary Wicker in Wilkes Co. GA, census 1830-40(b. 1770-80) was his wife. The children listed below are believed to be the children of Robert Elisha as there is no other Wicker to whom they might be assigned.

Issue:
i. John b. ca 1800, d prior 1860, TX, m. Dec 1820 Baldwin Co. GA Harriet Cox
ii. Julius b. 1803, m. 29 Mar 1897, Baldwin Co. GA Sarah Allums
iii. Wiley b. 1805
iv. Charlotte, m. 4 Sep 1822, Baldwin Co. GA David Worsham
v. Sarah, m. 27 Jan 1820 Baldwin Co. GA Elisha Calloway

Sources: Records of Washington Co. GA by DeLamar and Rothstein; Reconstructed Census of 1790, GA; GA Marriages; Census Records, GA, AL

Wiley was on the 1827 GA Land Lottery list. 1830 they lived in Baldwin Co. GA and in 1850 in Merriwether Co. GA.

I have the book The New Wicker/Whicker Family by Richard Fenton Wicker Jr. It lists: Wiley Wicker, son of Robert Elisha Wicker, was b. 1805, Washington Co GA,d. prior to 1880, m. ca 1825 Lucinda Dismukes. Then the first child listed as John Wiley b. 13, Mar 1827, GA, d. 8 Aug or Nov 1907 Ellis Co. TX, m. Mary Brannon, daughter of Tyre G. and Matilda M. (Slaton) Brannon.

I am descendant of Anna Johnnie Wicker, daughter of Mollie Wakeland and John Wicker. I have death certificate of Mollie Wicker, father John Wakeland, mother Molly Brannon. This information was verified by Daughters of the American Revolution genealogists. Earlier the DAR had Mollie's maiden name as Brannon.
I'm interested in John Wiley Wicker's father, shown as Wiley Wicker m. Lucinda Dismukes. I believe his name is also John Wiley Wicker and he is the son of Nathaniel Holly Wicker.
Do you have anything you can share on this line?

Two years later and I get to answer a part of my own query. It does appear that Anna Wright Wicker was indeed married to Tillman Culp and that prior to that marriage she had a daughter Ada or May or Ada Mae Gandy. Anna appears to be the daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth Colley, but based on a number of posted family trees there is no Anna or Anne listed as a child. There is one Eliza Ann who would fit age wise. Does anyone know if Eliza Ann is indeed Anna?

I believe his family lived in western NC during the the early 1800's and our oral history says that he married a Cherokee women and had three children before moving to Tennessee and eventually White county, Illinois. She and Thomas were buried in Bryce Chapel Cemetery, White County, Illinois. Any additional information or leads would be appreciated.

Hi,
Hi Ross,
Sorry I do not have a John Morris in my records . I do have a Lelia Morris 1897-1981 who was married to Lee Wicker 1899-1962. Lelia's father was Willaim Henry Morris abt 1877-before 1942. There are some more connections between Wickers and Morris. As a child I remember going with my mother to Morris pond near Sanford, NC with other cousins. I have the same problem with John C Wicker who is Lee Wicker's grandfather. This Wicker line is an off shoot of my line. My line is with Matthew David Wicker.
Becky

Hi Becky,
thanks so much for the reply. I have spent five years trying to fine who the parents were of my ancestor John H MOrris born in 1818 I believe in Moore co NC in the area that became Lee co NC in 1907. I think there may be a Wicker connection. There was a C B Wicker living next to a Daniel Morris in the 1850 or 1860 Moore co NC census and in 1870 he was living next to John H Morris in Chatham co NC. I don't know if there is a Wicker-Morris conection there. His name was Charley Wicker. I think he was born about 1816. If there was a Wicker-Morris connection I thought maybe you might have the name John H Morris born in 1818 in your records. Ross
