1870 Bedford, Cross, AR Census

I have been looking at this census all day and cannot figure out who these Wigleys are. I'm having a brain freeze. Would anyone be so kind as to assist me!?

On the census mentioned above, image page # 5 of 8, dwelling # 33, there is a "B Wigley", female age 49. And listed with her are 7 other residents - not sure if all are her children, and/or nephew Joseph (age 23) !?

For the life of me, I can't interpret who this is. I tend to think that the "B" is Barbara Hinkle Wigley, but she d. in 1859. Right?

My main interest are in the two females, listed as "M Wigley". I am hoping that one of them is 'my' Missouri Wigley.

Thank you in advance,
J. Spradlin

The number of the photograph is 31/c/169 and it is titled Bard Group Photograph.

I hope this helps.

Joseph Wigley, Hymn Writer, Wales-- Help!!

Ok, so this is my first try at this. I have been working at the ancestry.com thing for a little while, and having scores of luck with researching my mom's mom's mom's side. However, the case has been sorely different on my dad's side. Where I can get back to beyond 1000 AD for much of my mom's^3 side, I can barely scratch the late 1800's on my dad's side. What's more, we have tried to get in touch with the cities where they were for info, but no dice. Hopefully someone on here can help! Here's the info:

I am looking for the WIGLEY family, most likely having lived around Glamorganshire in places like Merthyr Tydfil, and Aberdare. Joseph Wigley in particular is of interest. I have found several Joseph Wigley's from the 1800's in my searches, but I'm not sure on them. This Joseph was a hymn writer, and I have some of his manuscripts. His granddaughter or great-granddaughter immigrated to Canada between 1910 and 1930 (Gaynor May Hopkins), but some of his family was still back in Wales at least in the 1970's.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello
I am looking for some Wigley information. I thank that my ancestry to the Wigleys came through John Wigley of Middleton
County of Derby.
I have found a Joseph Wigley Sr. born about 1765 and lived in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Shows he died in Georgia between 1840 and 1850.
Now I am kin to Gorge W Wigley who married Kate Ward in Aug.1882. Gorge died on Oct. 1909.
These are the children of Gorge and Kate Wigley.

Maude Wigley, Pearl Wigley, Ruby Wigley, and Lillie Bell Wigley who married a Early Jackson Smith.
I have seen someone on ancestry also working on this family and they have John listed as the son of John Wigley and Elizabeth Crane. on checking the census for 41 and then 51 I believe that Harriett and John have passed by 1851 as the oldest son John age 26 has his brothers living with him and his wife Elizabeth. Robert Nathn. age 24, Richard age 18 and George age 15. There is also with them a Mary Copner listed as an Aunt and Elizabeth Copner niece. The youngest child from 1841 was Edward Anthony and there was a death of an Edward Anthony 2nd quarter 1842, which could be him. you could search free BMD for the death of John or Harriet between 1841 and 1851. Good luck Sue

I am originally from Jonesboro. They had a son Willie (my grandfather)and a daughter Ada Lee who married T.L. Nesbit from Texas. I may be able to get you in contact with a Nesbit relative who has done some research on the Nesbit side. Let me know.

As far as the Cherokee part, I have tried to find out if we have Indian blood in our family. I have seen a portrait of Annie Wigley and she definitely has Indian features. So maybe, so, wouldn't it be great to find out what tribe!

Libby Peevy

I just found out this week that John D. Wigley, my great-great grandfather, was a private and part of a regiment out of Louisiana (Jackson Parish) called the 4th Regiment Louisiana Cavalry, Company E. during the Civil War. He was mustered on May 26, 1865. His Civil War record which I found on ancestry.com says he was a Confederate prisoner of war and paroled in Monroe, La. on June 17, 1865. I am researching now the history of this regiment looking for where he might have been captured. Always fascinating to find new information!

In 1850, Parthena Carter and her two daughters Nancy and Peggy were living in A. H. Watson's household. A. H. and Parthena Carter married 1861 in Paulding County, GA and I am assuming Nancy and Peggy changed their last name to Watson then.

Hydra/Hider Watson left a will in Bartow County, GA naming Jackson Wigley as the executor of his estate.

I am looking to find where Nancy was born. All I have is Georgia.

I don't believe my post mentioned Colorado... Actually there was at least one Wigley family that was in Colorado about the turn of the century (1900 or so) and after that they were in Idaho. Anyways I have back to Job Wigley b. 1712 of Westmoreland County, Virginia proven by his will made January of 1779 and probated there in March of 1782. I have seen no real proof other than online trees of Jobs parents, so the England part is just hearsay or family tradition with out any documentated proof that I have ever seen. My Gr grandpa John W. Wigley was born in Paulding Co., Georgia and he moved to and married in Walker Co., Georgia then eventually moved to Johnson Co., Texas. John W. Wigleys wife (my gr grandmother) was part Cherokee Indian.

I do not believe any Wigleys came from Colorado, according to what I see here. Most come from Texas, OK, NC and SC according to my research. There is a reference to Indian blood in one of these strings, and that is true and the tribe seems to be Cherokee based on what I know/read. My Grandmother (Jewel Wigley/Weaver) was half Cherokee (or more), I would have to check with my family.

Crystalee,

I thought you you'd say he was from Indiana. There are a lot of Wigley's from Indiana (specifically southern) and I'm probably related to all of them. My grandparents lived in Indiana for many years, although my father was born in California. He was never in touch with his brother so I'm guessing it's not your father. I'd be glad to help you with some search tips. You can email me directly at FoodMD@aol.com or just reply to this posting (whichever is more comfortable for you). If you do reply directly, be certain to put "Wigley" in the subject line or I may delete it not knowing where it came from. Best wishes in your search!

Jennett

Crystalee,

I'm sorry, but I don't have a William Henry Wigley in my tree, but it's entirely possible that your father and my father could be cousins (or even half-siblings). My grandfather was married prior to marrying my grandmother and had at least one son, though I don't know his name. My own father was born in 1937 and I'm told the half-brother was at least 2 or even 3 years older than him. Do you know where your father was born or the year?

I, too, am searching for Wigley relatives. My Grandfather was William Walter Wigley, born Beech Grove, Indiana, around 1910-ish. His parents were Harry Allen Wigley and Flossie Cordellia Baxter. The Baxter tree goes back to the 1730's however, I cannot find a link between my Great-grandfather Harry and his ancestors from England. There is a possibility that he was adopted into the Wigley family and that his birth father died before Harry was born. It is somewhat frustrating since no living relatives are sure. I also have a half-uncle, allegedly named William Walter Wigley, Jr., possibly residing in the Seattle, Washington area. If you know this branch of Wigley's or think we are related, please contact me.

They moved to Arkansas with some of the other children.
I saw the Cook children living with James and Rutha and then William Cook living with one of the Uncles in a later census. I can't remember offhand.
Rutha's death info that they have online doesn't give a cemetery but she died in Banks County. I thought maybe they took her back and buried her next to James.I was told there are several unmarked graves around him.
I have found a lot of the children on Find A Grave.
Mary must have married and had her children and died all between 1880 and 1900 where we have no census.
Jan

I am unsure about that individual. I really don't know anything on Maggie Wigley. All I know is her 2 daughters named Julia and Mary. Maggie was a nickname and her real name was Mary Minnie Wigley. She was married to a Jack Hayes. Sorry I can't help really.
Thanks.

I am wondering about James Franklin Wigley and his wife Rutha Luraney/Louranie Chambers. they are only an off line to my Wigley's but would like to know who the parents are for James Franklin Wigley born Jan 1835 so I can attach him to my Tree.
James Franklin is buried in the Wahoo Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County, Georgia..his headstone is not readable and I have death info for Rutha in Banks County Georgia born May 20, 1843 and died July 17, 1928..not sure where she is buried. James and Rutha married Jan. 13, 1867 in Lumpkin Co. Georgia.
So if anyone knows his parents..it would be a help to me.
Thanks Jan
