Hoping to find descendants of Thomas James Wigston (b 1855 Qld) and Florence Bridget Wigston nee McAuliffe. They were married in 1932 but not sure if they had any children. The origin of the Wigston is Carlisle Cumberland.

Thomas parents were John Wigston b 1855 Carlisle Cumb and Mary Ann Main b 1856 Wetheral Cumb.

With regard to John Wigston, I think that maybe he was my gg grandmother's (Margaret Wigston) brother. She was born in Co Down Ireland in approx 1835. I believe John was born in Ireland around 1836. I cannot be 100% sure this is only a guess. Do you know John's parents names?? Margaret's were James Wigston and Jane Dabriel. Would like to hear from you regardless. Cheers Hayley - West Aust

Thank you for you information. I'm not sure if we are looking at the same Margaret Nixon. My Margaret Nixon was 46 in the 1881 Census which would have her birth year at 1835. You have a birth year of 1821. The John Nixon who is 25 could not have been Thomas Nixon's son as there is only 13 years between them which means Margaret was either married prior or had him out of wedlock. The reason I thought she was married to a John Wigston is I found a John Wigston (son) born to John Wigston and Margaret on 25/08/1855 in the family search site. This fits perfectly. But in saying that, I cannot find a marriage match in the St Catherines index for Thomas Nixon and Margaret Wigston. I know she is connected to the Wigston name as my aunty remembers my g grandmother - Mary Jane Nixon talking to her about it. Would like to hear from you again re your input. I am only quite new to this and appreciate any info people have. Thanks

I don't have anything to offer you regarding John Wigston but I believe the Margaret Nixon in the 1881 Census who would have been born in 1821 is the daughter of James Wigston and Rachel Close of Dromore in County Down. I have checked the Dromore Church of Ireland registers and Margaret was born on the 3rd February 1821 which fits rather nicely. The nephew Robert was the son of Jane Wigston who could be Margaret's sister who was born on the 9th June 1812. Robert's birth certificate does not give the father's name so presumably Jane was not married.

James and Rachel are my great, great, great grandparents and I have done agreat deal of work compiling the family tree so if you are related I should be happy to share that with you.

Incidentally I do have a John Wigston, born in Ireland who married Roseanna Brannon of Carlisle in 1863 in Carlisle. There is also another John Wigston in the Dromore Parish registers who married Mary Bennett, they had four children, Thomas (1857), Samuel John (b1859 d1865), Ellen Elizabeth (1861) and Ann Jane (1863).

Am looking for any info on John Wigston m Margaret ? b abt 1835 in Ireland. They had one child that I know of - John Wigston b 1855 in Carlisle, Cumberland England. Am not sure after this, but she then married a Thomas Nixon and had more children. The 1881 census states that she had her nephew Robert Wigston b abt 1860 living with her. I am eager to find out Margaret's maiden name.
