I cannot find him in the 1910 census. There is one married to Anna, but that shows the father as Frank. I am looking for the one that has William Penndleton Wilcox as the father, or with a different wife other than Helen in either Syracuse area, or Johnstown Ny. area. Anybody have a clue here?
Thanks,
Annie

I have a Great Great Grandfather named David Henry Wilcox. He was born about 1828 and he married Hannah Jane Miller in Yates County New York. H died in 1910 in Stearns County, Minnesota. His death record says father unknown and mother was "Halock" or "Halouk". Some census say he was born in Pennsylvania and others say New York. Anyone recognize this combination? He was in the Civil War in the 148th Illinois Infantry.
Thanks, Maxine

Looking for any information on John L M Wilcox, born in Virginia, in 1832 and lived in Scott County. He was married to a person named Barbara, last name not known. He joined the Union military in Kentucky in March 1864, and went on a furlough, in which he did not return from. He had 4 children, in which one died as an infant. On the 1870 Census his youngest son Jacob was living with a family named William and Charlotte Felty. It appears that Jacob married a Sarah Smith around 1889. Thanks

Phebe Wilcox who married David Baker

For years I have tried without success to learn the names of the parents and other ancestors of Phebe Wilcox. Phebe was born June 18, 1756 in Morristown, New Jersey and died
September 30, 1835 in Morristown. She was married to David Baker, born November 30, 1751, died March 6, 1833. David Baker was a Lieutenant in Oliver Spencer's Additional Continental Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Realize this is an old post, but worth a try. Working on my husband's Wilcox family. His Great Great Grandparents were Horace Hubbard Wilcox and Olivia Richardson-Wilcox.

So far I have found that Horace died in 1888 - Clifford, Butler, Kansas.

Olivia in 1904 - Glendora, Los Angeles, California.

Their son Boardman Hubbard Wilcox m: Emma Olinger

Boardman, Emma and their children eventually moved to Santa Maria, California. Their daughter Oliva was my husband's Grandmother.

I have more information I can share.

Denise

I am a direct descendent of Thomas Willcox and Elizabeth Cole, who married in 1727 in the Olde Swedes Church of the Holy Trinity in Wilmington, DE and lived in Ivy Mills, Concord Co, PA. Today was the first time I had ever seen the below comments.

BIOGRAPHY: Thomas Willcox , born in Ivybridge, a village some eight miles from Plymouth, Devonshire, sailed on the ship York out of Bristol , England in the early 1700's.

According to Lucy Russell (74650.605@compuserve.com), Thomas arrived onboard the ship York out of Bristol, England. I have not seen Lucy's source for this information.

I would be most interested in what documentation you had to support these comments. I have the book "Ivy Mills" by Joseph Willcox (great grandson of olde Thomas Willcox) and these statements are not included in it. I look forward to hearing from you.

Bob Burton in Gainesville, FL
rburton904ataol.com
Thank you for your reply. After a few months of almost all Boy Scouts, I'm back to checking on family. I wish I would have spent more time asking my grandmother information about the family. I hope to have more conversations with my mother, but that doesn't tell me more about my Dad's family. There are so many Wilcox family - that the engtanglements are great. There's a lot of data up to the point where ancestors arrived in America. Not so much between here and Europe. I have discovered that ALL of my ancestors, both sides of my family, all married lines, go back to colonial times in America. That is absolutely fascinating to me. Good Luck on your searches. It is fun.

I am hoping to find someone who descends from one of Thomas and Margaret's children. We are related to their youngest, John W. "Walter" Wilcox. Thank you.

Wondering if we may be researching the same family. I have traced Wilcox ancestors from Erie, PA through Stueben County, NY to Chatham Twp, CT in 1765 where I hit a dead end. There is some evidence that the line carries through to John Wilcox of Hartford but I do not have the proof to make that link yet. Willing to share what info I have.

FTDNA analyzes selected areas of the Y chromosome. These results are then compared with other males bearing the surname Wilcox in search of those with the same overall pattern. This can help to confirm a sketchy paper trail, or at least narrow down possibilities for research.

As a general rule, test the eldest male surnamed Wilcox.

If Hazel was female, however, she had no Y chromosome to pass on. An alternate testing strategy might be helpful, depending on what information you *do* have about the lineage.

Feel free to ask additional questions directly:
wilcoxery@gmail.com

Lisa Wilcox

Harry D. Wilcox and Mary E. McKee, Mahoning Co., OH 1910-1912

In researching my McKee family and comparing my information with trees posted on ancestry I have found a couple of records that I think might pertain to Harry Dickens Wilcox 1870 MI - 1947 NY. In the 1910 Census Youngstown, Mahoning, OH Harry Wilcox, 37 is a boarder in the home of John M. McKee 66, his wife Anna (Stitt) 66 and their daughter Mary E. 35. Harry is a principal in a Public School.

On Family Search Ohio Deaths 1908-1953 there is a death certificate for Mary E. Wilcox, signed by Harry D. Wilcox, saying Mary died one hour after giving birth on 26 Dec 1911. Her parents are listed as John McKee and Anna Stitt, but John's name is indexed on Family Search as John McGill.

The New Castle News Jan. 12, 1912 p.14 has an obituary for Mrs. Harry D. Wilcox which says she is survived by her husband "who is professor in one of the Pittsburg schools, recently occupying a similar position in Youngstown, and leaves also a little son, two days old..."
The 1920 Census in Mahoning enumerates Anna McKee, 76, now widowed, her daughter Effie Barnett 53, divorced, Effie's son, Victor McKee Barnett 23, and another grandson Marion Wilcox, 8.

The New Castle News obituary for Mrs. John McCready McKee, Mar. 19, 1923, p.2, lists as a survivor, her grandson Marion Wilcox.

I have been unable to find any Ohio marriage record for Harry Wilcox to Mary McKee or to Lula Kamerer who is also mentioned as a wife of Harry. Lulu has been said to be mother of Harry's son, Manon born about 1913 by several Wilcox researchers. I recently located a descendant of Marion Emerson Wilcox 26 Dec 1911 OH - 20 Jan 1998 CA through another ancestry tree.

Although Ohio birth records are available for about $25 there is no on-line index to search for either Marion or Manon Wilcox for free. Marion E. Wilcox's daughter says that Marion had tried to get a copy of his birth certificate from Ohio when he joined the Navy and no record was found.

One of the trees on ancestry mentions that Manon Wilcox is mentioned in the 1916 Lenawee Co., MI will of Horace Wilcox, father of Harry. Probate records are not available on Family Search nor in the Family History Library collection for Lenawee Co. MI. Does anyone have a copy of the will of Horace Wilcox that mentions Manon? Is it possible that Manon and Marion may be the same person?

I would be interested in any input and would be happy to share Mary (McKee) Wilcox's death certificate or obituary, neither of which names her son.

Nancy Smith

Re: Wilcox - The Nine Brothers

Karen,
You mention Stephen (a tailor)and Mary Thomas, Wilcox having 9 sons and 3 daughters.
There was also Stephen (a farmer)and Mary Ricketson, Wilcox. These two families lived in Dartmouth at the same time and it is said a historian did not know there were two families, and assigned some of Mary Thomas' children to Mary Ricketson.
Notice on -rootsweb family trees- that Stephen b 1747, Micajah born ab 1749, and William born 1752 are still listed by many as children of
Mary Ricketson. With the addition of these 3 children it does give 9 brothers and 3 daughters to Mary Ricketson. Do you think this is what could have happened? Credited Mary Thomas with the wrong children-
There is much confusion yet, with these families. Stephen the farmer had a son Jireth and Stephen the tailor had a son Tyler- Tylee. Some credit Jireth with Tyler's wife and children, besides his own. Each had girl's named Mary. Stephen is listed very few times with Mary Thomas.
The children were sorted out as Stephen the farmer, had a will listing his children.
You can see his will by entering
- will of Stephen Wilcox- in the search box on this site. Enter -William Wilcox son of Mary Thomas-that explains him being recorded as -dying young not in his father's will. Enter - Micajah wilcox Dunham cemetery- and it bring up the cemetery and his grave marker. If you are interested!
- A Wilcox daughter did have 13 sons but they were Allen's. -
