Hi there, I have to admit I haven't done any searching for quite a few months now. Always seem to be busy with other things. Would be great to hear of any family tree relating to our surname. Me and my immediate family are the only ones with it spelt that way here in NZ. It will die out unless my brother has a son......

No problem.
In the 1881 census, it says Charlotte was also born in Kilmarnock, but still not found her before the wedding.
Looking through the previous items (and now knowing that Charles was married to Jean (or Jane)) I have found her parents. They were living next door to her in 1841 in Dunlop. Alexander Smith born 1771 (+ or - 5 years for this census) and Agnes Smith 1776 (both born Scotland). From this I have found they were married on 28 Nov 1803 in Dunlop. Agnes maiden name is McFrederic (this is the same as Jean's death certificate. I could not read it properly). Now you can see why they called 4 of the children, Charles, Agnes, Alexander and Frederic. From the church it has Jean Smith born 23 Apr 1807 and baptised on 3 May 1807 in Dunlop. They also had baptised Agnes late 1809, Frances Ann 1815 and 1818, Hugh early 1809, Keith 1811, Margaret 1813, Rachel 1811.
Also marriage: Charles Wildin (gamekeeper) of Stewartson married Jean Smith of Dunlop in Dunlop on 28 Feb 1834.

Gosh, thankyou for all your research and help. Certainly a lot to take in at the moment. I will have to go through what I have and try and make some sense of it all now. Sure is hard with all the different spellings etc. Charles (father of Frederick) on Frederick's wedding cert was a gamekeeper. Not sure where Charlotte was born. Her father was James Hastings, Gentleman. Frederick at time of marriage, was a mechanic. Thanks again.

I think I am now correct with his family. I have the following additions:
1841 as before.
1842 baptism at Loudoun Ayrshire: George Fredric Augustus Rawdon Hastings Wildin - son of Charles Wildin Gamekeeper and Jean Smith in Cronon Hill born 10 Aug 1842 and baptised 7 Oct 1842. This is your gggrandfather.
1851 census: off Robertson Place; William Wildin 12, Rowdon 8 Martha 14, Jean 40, Alexander 10, Agnes 16.
1861/71 as before except 1871 reads Fredric G.A.R.H do (ditto Waldin).
1878 births entry - Rawdon James Hastings Wildin 26 Oct 5 am Bransburn parish of Kilmarnock son of Frederick Hastings Wildin ship engineer and Charlotte nee Hastings (married 2 Mar 1873 in Manchester)
1881 census. Alfred Weldin 10 G-son(Martha's son?), Charlotte H 33 D-in-law Stewardess Widow, Jean S 68 Head Widow, Rowdon 2 g-son, William son 40 unmarried house painter. Therefore Frederick died 1878-1881.
1891 deaths: Jane Wildin widow of Charles Wildin gamekeeper died 10 am 8 May 1891 at 8 Welbeck st age 84. Father Alexander Smith butler and Agnes Smith nee Sedrise (?).
Thanks

Hi. Bits and pieces which sort of go together. Scottish census is only transcipted so you cannot check original. See what you think? This is what I have found so far:
From Scottish IGI: Martha Wildin baptised Kirkendbright 16 Oct 1836. Charles Wildin and Jane Smith parents. Martha marries James Curdie 3 jul 1857 in Kilmarnock living at 4 Princes street in 1861.
1841 Scottish census: Jean Welden born 1811, Charles son 1832, Agnes 1835, Martha 1837, Alexander 1841 (4months) in Huntall, Dunlop. Also, Charles Wildin 1813 visitor at Loudoun with Edward 1805 (English), Mary Ann 1808 (English nee Marston) and Ann daughter 1832.
1851 census: nothing found yet.
1861 Scottish census at 16 robertson place kilmarnock: Mrs charles wildin 1811 born dunlop head sewer. Rowlison Wildin 1843 loudoun Brass Finisher (your frederick??) and William Wildin 1838 Stewartson House Painter.
1871 Scottish census at 123 King street, Kilm: Jean Smith(!) 1811 Dunlop Housekeeper, William Waldin 1841 Painter, Frencie Ger H Haldin (??) 1843 Loudown Brass Finisher (frederick??). Alexander is in England as before.
1881 no census yet.
1891 scottish: Jean Wilden 83 Dunlop at 8 Welbeck St, Kilmarnock.
I think Frederick parents are Charles and Jean Smith. Charles born in Scotland approx 1813, but his parents may be English. Did it have his occupation on the wedding certificate to prove above? Was Charlotte Scottish and was her parents name? Hope this helps. You can contact me via my tree on this site Wildin/Pickles/Butcher/Atack. Search on tree for Frederick Wildin born 1864 Rotherham.
Thanks for info given re Frederick and Alexander. Appreciate any help. Frederick's father was Charles, age unknown but Frederick was 27 when married in 1873. An Alexander was a witness at the wedding. Frederick was the father of Rawdon James Hastings Wildin who was born in Kilmarnock, Scotland 1878 but ended up in Fiji, marrying a Fijian woman. Their son, William, was my father's father. My father's family all moved to Australia but Dad came to NZ, hence the only Wildins in NZ. We have researched some of the Wildins from Forest of Dean but no definite connection as yet.

Hi, Had a quick look for Frederick and there is a bit of a brick wall. I cannot find him or Charlotte, apart from their wedding in 1873. I note Charlotte had a sister Elizabeth Leopold who married in the same period. I have found Alexander Francis Wildin (1840 or 1844) d 1886) who was living in Manchester. He married Alice Mary Robinson in Manchester in 1868 and is in Ardwick, Manchester in 1871 (as Francis). They moved to Horninglow (Burton) Staffs in 1876 and are there in 1881. He died in 1886. Alice is still there in 1891. In the census he is born in Scotland, which would fall in with Frederick.
Do you have his father and age from the wedding certificate?
When did they go to NZ? They might turn up in the Scotland 1881 census when it is released.

Hi. My Wildin name is from the South Yorkshire area (Rotherham) in England. But the family originated in Staffordshire and South Derbyshire area. The earliest I can find is William Wildin (no BMD records of him) moving from Stoke, Staffordshire to Newhall (Swadlincote), South Derbys to set up a pottery business in 1818. From South Derbys, most sons/grandsons moved to South Yorkshire as potters or miners in 1850-1870, though some went to London (1850-60) but this died out on female line. Generally, I know Wildin's are mainly found in Forest of Dean (on Welsh border near Gloucester), Stoke, Rotherham, Nottingham, London and Manchester. The one's from Rotherham area are mainly originated from my William. I cannot find his records to attach him to the present day Stoke Wildins. Overall I think there are a few hundred (350?) Wildins in England.
I will try and find your Frederick but you are right about Wildin constantly being spelt incorrectly in many forms. Do you think he came from Scotland or just moved there? When these census (Scottish) come out, you might get a break through.

Hi, am trying to trace my father's family past his great grandfather - Frederick Rawdon Wildin who married Charlotte Leopold Hastings in Manchester England on March 2 1873. Their son (Dad's grandfather) was born in Kilmarnock Scotland -Rawdon James Hastings Wildin.Rawdon then travelled to Fiji where he married Dad's grandmother Kumi. Am unable to trace anything further back from Frederick and Charlotte, although know that a witness at their wedding was an Alexander. Hi to all the fellow Wildins out there. A good surname! If only people could spell it correctly....

Hi, I'm going to find out from mom. She used to tell me lots of things about her family but I have forgot most of what she told me, but I will definitely find out and let you know. I think women tell more about their family and about how they lived than men do. I know grandma had a very difficult life, and mom said when she was growing up, that grandma used to tell our grandpa that as soon as she had her kids raised she was going to leave grandpa, and she did. The only two still at home were Betty and Ruth. Grandma went to Col. and worked as a cook for the workers that harvest broomcorn. Her and Betty lived together all Betty,s life. Betty had seizures and grandma took care of her. Betty had a little girl named Louise, and after she was born in about 1960, they moved back to Ok. and lived in Tahlequah. So I was around them alot from the time I was about 17. Grandma was a really bad diabetic, and eventually had to go into a nursing home. She had one leg aniputed. She was really sick one time and the medication they gave her caused her to lose her hearing. Grandma could not read or write. Sometimes she was a very bitter person, and I guess for good reason, Mom said that grandpa was abusive to grandma and that.s why she divorced him. I'll find out what I can and get back with you. Your cousin,( who you've never met) Barbara

She was living Tahlequah Ok. when she died. Tahlequah is about 25 miles from Stillwell where all the children was raised. Their were 7 children: Bessie, Leon,Jessie, Robert, Mary Edith, Betty and Ruth. The only ones alive are My mother, Jessie, and Mary Edith. Mary Edith still lives in Stillwell. and We live in Fort Gibson which is about 50 miles from Stillwell.Your grandfather John Wilden and Betty divorced in about l947 or l950. John moved to Calif. and grandma moved to Col. and worked at differnt jobs. In 1964? she moved back to Oklahoma, so I was around her alot. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Barbara Cox
