Paul Wilkes of Trenton, NJ/Stamford, CT/Newark, NJ

I'm looking for descendants of Paul Wilkes, who was born in Trenton, NJ, in 1877. He was the son of Peter and Susan (Britton) Wilkes. (Peter's sister, Mary Wilkes Mackenzie was my 3rd-great grandmother, and I have done extensive research on the Wilkes family in Trenton.) Paul served in the U.S. Navy during the Spanish-American War. He lived for many years in Georgia, working for various newspapers with his first wife, Myrtle.

After Myrtle's death, Paul remarried Alexandra Hamilton. As of 1930, they were living in Stamford, CT, with their young daughters, Elizabeth and Pauline. Paul was living in Newark, NJ, as of 1942, the last I've been able to trace him.

I would love to be in contact with any descendants of Paul and Alexandra to share information on the family.

Robert Bartholomew Wilkes 23 NOV 1876

Robert Bartholomew Wilkes died in Bath N.Y. 23 Nov, 1876 by a kick from a horse. He was active in the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath, and I have found an article about him in that Church's newsletter under Wilkes Family, Church history. What I am trying to find is a date of birth or birth year. He was buried in the Grove Cemetery in Bath, N. Y. in the Wilkes-Shannon plot. If some wonderful person in N. Y. would take a photo of a grave stone for me, or find a date of birth in Church records and a place of birth, I would be so very greatful. Thank you.

If you get a chance to visit the Library of Virginia or the Virginia Historical Society ask for the book on the Descendents of Francis Wilkes. Recently I heard from another distant relation who told me about a funeral home website. I found an entry for Layburn/Leyburn Wilkes burial. I am thinking that Leyburn was Custina's father and Custina was my ggmother Mattie's sister.

I can be contacted at jamessties@msn.com

see: http://www.gravegarden.org/diuguid/search_results.php?surnam...

Hi,
I am looking for the father of John Murphy Wilkes. Supposedly his father was Thomas Wilkes and his mother's maiden name was Murphy. Father was born in Vermont and mother born in Ireland. Don't know how accurate the info is. john M.Wilkes was supposed to have a brother Thomas of Weedsport and James Harrison of Albany. i don't know if there were any other siblings. John M. married 3 times, 1st to Elizabeth who died in 1844 (at 27 yrs), 2nd Mary who died in 1856 (at 54 yrs.) and lastly Jane C. Rhoades (daughter of Anthony S. Rhoades & Elizabeth Secor). John had 8 children from those marriages, one of which is my great great grandfather Frank A. Wilkes who was married to Alice Daniels. I don't know what you are looking for exactly but if you are able to shed any light on what I am looking for I would appreciate it. I will answer any questions you may have also if I am able to help.
Thanks so much,
Val

Hello,
I'm trying to track a Claire Wilkes, who wrote a document on the family of Arthur Kerr and Elizabeth Diamond, 2 migrants from Northern Ireland to New Zealand in late 19th century.
Claires document, no dates on it but by the presentation it appears to be from approx 1991, lists nearly 500 members of this extended family - and my interest comes because I'm a part of Elizabeths family left behind in Ireland.
So, if anyone can help, - either to locate Claire, or if you've info on the Kerr-Diamond link, I'd be grateful

Ciaran Crossey, Belfast, Ireland.
cpcrossey at gmail.com

Hopefully we can help each other, so please respond.

Hello Tracy,

My grandmother was Lilian Mary Forrest. My son has recently set up our family tree under Gardner and I think you have replied to him about Arthur Ebernezer Forrest. I have being trying to track down our Canadian cousins for 20 years plus and you must be one of them. You mention Frederick Wilkes, I know something about the son they had together and am amazed that you know of him and lots about other decendants from Lilians second marriage.

I would like to know more and if you want to know more please contact me.

Best regards

Ian Gardner

Greetings Lyn
I believe my husband's great grandmother Sarah Jane (nee Wilkes) Caldwell was Fredrick's sister. Although I have him as Fredrick William born 1862 in Toronto he did have a brother George Henry born about 1853. If this is the same family his father's name was John and his mother was Sarah Duplex. There is a marriage record for Fredrick William & Emma. He was Irish and she of English descent. It states they both were "Church of England," but he might not have been.
I have a huge tree for the Caldwell family and some info for Fredrick's siblings and would enjoy sharing. If you would send me your email I can give you access to my tree.
Warm Regards
JerseyFox; Caldwell wife

Thanks for prompt reply. Not sure that there is a direct connection but don't really know because he is the only person I know from William's side of the family. Because of the information on his marriage certificate I somehow feel that he might have been illegitimate and so there will be no way of finding his family. Thanks anyway, but if you come across anything which you might think will help I would appreciate it. Regards, Kathleen.

Can't find him in my tree but his wife's name seems familiar.
My grandmother was Frances Ellen Wilkes daughter of John Wilks b.1929 Lilleshall, Shropshire, she was born 1870 in Shifnal area of Shropshire and married Isaac Cooper. John's mother was Martha married to Michael Wilks I think but have no proof, she re-married a John Pascall.
John Wilks m. Mary Ann Jones and one of their children was John William Wilkes b.1858 in the Nabb, Lilleshal area of Shropshire probably known as William so as not to be confused with his father. I have his wife as Elizabeth Gaywood Smith !
They were a large family so there probably is a connection somewhere
Heather
My grandfather was William Wilkes born between 1868 and 1874. Can't find any reference to his birth, he married Selina Preece in 1893 and they lived in Brosley, Shropshire. Information on their marriage certificate refers to his as "natural child". Between 1911 and 1917 he and his family went to live in Hyde, Cheshire, where he died in 1927. He and Selina had 10 children. Any connection? any help would be appreciated.

I know your post was in 2000 but in the off chance you are still interested and this reaches you...My name is Kimberly Edgin. I am an Edgin by marriage. My husband, Vincent Desha Edgin, has roots in Benton. We live about 20 minutes outside of Benton ourselves. I've heard him talk about "Aunt Pearl". I don't know if it is the same Pearl you mentioned. I throw some names at you to see if you can make a connection: William Luther Edgin had Sam Edgin> Sam had Billy (or Bill) Edgin> Bill had Vincent. William Luther married several times having children with each wife. We've actually met someone working at the Walmart Super who is down the line from William Luther and wife #2. My husband come from wife #1. William Luther had 7 sons and a daughter with wife #1. One of those was Sam who is my husbands grandfather. I suspect your connection could be from one of those six other brothers or down from wife #2 or #3. ON THE OTHER NAME "WILKES"...would that by any chance be polish and shortened fromm something else. Any roots in Marche her in Arkansas. If so you and I are probably related. I myself have roots there WILKIEWICZ OR WILKES OR WILKIE as we've seen different versions. The first is believed to be the "true" name.

I'm hoping someone has some information on her.

She was my grandmothers sister. Maiden name was McBride. She first lived in Greene County, Arkansas. She was born Feb 7, 1913. She married a Dee Stroud in 1927 in Greene County and had two children Nadine (b. about 1928) and Buford. They divorced and she moved with her children to North Hollywood, CA (not sure when she moved).

While in California she remarried to a Wilkes. I have no information on him. I think she died in 1964. I have no idea where she is buried, if she had anymore children or what happened to her first two children. I would love to find out more information about her and her family.

Hello All,
This has been a long-running mystery in my family and I'm determined to get some answers. My grandfather Carl Clark was adopted and his adopted name was Clark, but apparently his biological father's last name was Wilkes. There is sketchy information about his first name, could be Carl, Gordon or Carl Gordon. My grandfather's mother's name was Elizabeth Bennett (they never married). This part of my family is from the Pittsburgh, PA area, but it has been said that my grandfather's father was from Chicago, IL area. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

He later married my Grandmother Ida Hannah Miles Wilkes and had several more children, Margaret S.,Linnie, Preston Jr. Linwood , my Father Donald, and Bobby. After my Grandfather died, my Grandmother married Leroy Matthews. If anyone has a photo of William Preston Wilkes please let me know, my father says he could only remember one but does not know what happened to it.
Thanks,
Allen

I am currently researching Charles Henry Lissemore and his first wife Elizabeth Ann (Annie) Wilks.CHL had 11 children by his second wife Laura Bauld who was 31 years younger when they married in 1913. Many of their grandchildren are my Facebook friends.
