Looking for relatives of Arthur Wilks

Hello,
I am looking for relatives of my grandfather Arthur Wilks. Arthur was born in Bolton, England circa 1900. In the 1920s, I believe, he took a boat over to Ontario, Canada and married Louise Liptrot. They had nine children and settled in Rhode Island, USA where he died at the age of 64. Arthur and his family were Baptists if that helps.
Thank you.
2nd message - In addition, I would love to review your family file including other families of which your family was intermarried into. Perhaps there is a clue in your records. Thanks!

Duncan Washington Wilkes b: 1802 Robeson Co., NC and Priscilla "Kitty" Christopher are parents of Wiley. They were m: 02/11/1819 Granville Co., NC.

Duncan Washington Wilkes is son of John Wilkes b: 1767 d: 1816 Robeson Co., NC and Lucy Ann Strickland b: 12/10/1771 probably Virginia d: aft Mar 1831, Robeson co., NC.

Above John Wilkes' father was Isaac Wilkes b: bef 07/28/1738 probably Virginia d: bef 04/02/1794 Robeson Co., NC. Isaac may have been married twice, but we have not found the marriage records. It is said that he was married to Elizabeth Tabitha Branch.

Isaac Wilkes (Rev. War) father was Francis Wilkes b: est 1677 - 1715 probably Virginia d: winter of 1745. Francis' Wilkes inventory was signed by his "real wife, Grace Wilks". Unfortunately, we have not been able to determine her last name.

You also have Anson and Dean in your family? We have Dean as well.

Peterson Deans b: bef 1803, Bertie Co., NC d: aft 1831 m: 08/12/1824 Bertie Co., NC Martha Wilkes who was daughter of James Wilkes Jr. b: abt 1764 d: abt 1831. and Elizabeth Harrell.

Above James Wilkes Jr. was son of James Wilkes Sr. b: abt 1739 d: 1792 (Rev. War) and Mary Thorogood b: 1740 Dunmore Co., or Shenandoah Co., VA d: abt 1792, NC. Mary Thorogood was daughter of William Thorogood b: 1710, Lower Norfolk, VA and Mary ?

James Wilkes Sr. was son of Francis Wilkes and Grace (LKU) Wilkes mentioned above.

I think we may also have been closely related or allied family of the Ansons as they show up in records too.

Recently I have come across some records that lead me to believe that we may have been Wilkins instead of Wilkes or perhaps it was Wilkes and it was changed to Wilkins around the time of Bacon Rebellions, or a forefather passed away early in life and the name was mispelled. Land and court records have both Wilkes/Wilks/Wilkins and seemingly one family. I think that our family was around Lower Norfolk, VA then Perquimans, then Bertie, Halifax, Edgecombe Co., NC; then some of them moved back into Virginia just prior to or during the Revolutionary
War; then they returned to North Carolina (Bladen, Robeson, RAnson, Richmond Counties). Unfortunately some of the Norfolk/Nansemond and other southeastern Virginia counties records were destroyed.

I am still working on the Wilkins possibility.

A short item of interest is that about a year or so ago I discovered that one of our family was a furniture maker. Some of his items sell for ungodly amounts. That furniture was made in the late 1700's into the 1800's. Some of his pieces are displayed at many eastern museums.

My husband's line goes back to Wiley Wilkes through his daughter Agusta Wilkes (b. Oct 1852) and her daughter Ida Wilkes.
I've been researching the Wilkes family and can't seem to get back past wiley wilkes and Catherine McCray - have you had any further sucess in finding Wiley Wilkes parents?
Thanks for any help!
Shirley Anson
svanson2@msn.com

NB. Since posting on this person, I have new information and have decided that that the Charles Richard Wilks born in Kidderminster is not an ancestor, although he did move away and was no longer in the census after 1880. The birth date on the head stone was 1854, but this individual was most likely born in 1851.

Joseph R Wilks family 1813 England to Kansas

I am trying to locate Joseph R. Wilks (Wilkes?). He lived in Rock Creek, Nemaha, KS in 1880. He came from England, and is on the census of 1850 and 1860 in Pike Co, ILL, then in Richardson Co, NE in 1870 and Rock Creek KS in 1880. I am particularly interested in the family who is always listed as living with him on the census pages, Joseph Burch (Birch?) and his two children. I believe one of the children is my ggrandmother, Mary Ann Burch/Birch. She always listed herself on census pages as an orphan who was born in Illinois and whose parents came from England. I have not been able to find any records for her at all, and hope someone can help with this family. They may possibly have emigrated around 1848. She was born May 29, 1851 in Illinois.

Judy,
These are the census sheets I was talking about. We strongly believe this is our family, but do not know how to go about finding anything further back. They probably came here directly from England, so there may be a passenger list or loyalty oaths somewhere. Note that old man Wilks had the money and property in the family! They all seem to have come over together.
Mary

1850 Census Detroit Twp Pike Co ILL
This is all one household:
Joseph Burch from Ireland age 40 farmer
Anna (also called Hannah) from England
Richard & Joseph R.
Hi,I am Sherrie Wilks, Harriman,Schwenka Miller, we are related. I am the Bood daughter of Clayton Maxwell Wilks, who is the son of Maxwell Roy Wilks. Maxwell Roy Wilks had a brother, W.H. Wilks and a sister named Siena Wilks. I looked up the names for children in the time frame that she was born and the spelling is Si(Sienna), Siena (Sienna) and Sienna. So I have been looking and still hitting a brick wall. I remember My dad telling that his father Maxwell Roy Wilks told him don't forget your french roots and gave him information that of course got lost. I asked my mother if she remembered anything. Just that my dads dad was very English. My mother was married to Clayton, for 6 years and her name is Anna Marie Schmidt Wilks Harriman. Gosh so many names. I live in Ellensburg, Washington. My email is
birchwomen@yahoo.com, Address 4880 Parke Creek Road, Ellensburg, Wa. 98926 and phone is 509-968-9301. Thank you for allowing me to give you information. Sherrie.

which census are you looking at? Illinois archives show that fires destroyed many records which might help us. Our grandpa William Wilks and his brother Maxwell had an older sister, possibly named Sena (Sina, Selena??)who married Michael Brady. Can't find them either. Seems that your Wilks was farther back than ours, my grandfather born in Ill. in 1878 or 1879. Keep in touch, I will also.

The Wilks we are interested in may be a grandfather to Mary Ann Burch, our gggrandmother. She married William Field Hill and listed herself as an orphan whose parents came from England. The census shows her and a brother living with Wilks, so we suspect she is his granddaughter. Earlier census data shows the whole family living with Wilks in Illinois, so maybe some disease wiped out most of her family and whoever was left moved out here to escape it. Apparently there were many Europeans who came here to the midwest at the same time as they did.

yep, I'm still looking. I even got my brother to take a DNA test and sent it in to a Wilkes/Wilks genealogy program and he is a totally separate line from around 15000 others! Weird, but there you go. Now we are somewhat thinking that maybe Wilks isn't the right name to be researching, but anything else is a dead end. Please keep in touch-the new DNA line belongs to Randall Arthur Wilks (matched to two first cousins Gilbert and Donald) so if you run onto anything, I am interested. Thanks Judy Arends
